Chapter Text
The sky above Nottingham, was overcast, the city cloaked in a typical autumn gloom. The streets bustled with the sounds of everyday life—people chatting on their way to work, the hum of cars, the occasional bark of a dog—all mundane, all perfectly ordinary. But on this particular day, something extraordinary was about to happen.
In a narrow alleyway, hidden from the busy thoroughfares of the city, a flicker of light shimmered in the air. It started as a faint glow, barely noticeable to anyone who might have passed by. But soon, the glow intensified, crackling with energy as the fabric of reality itself seemed to tear open. A rift—unnatural and pulsating with power—appeared, widening slowly as if the world was being forced apart. On the other side of that rift, the world of Remnant lay in ruin. Grimm ran rampant, the kingdoms splintered, and the great battle for survival continued. But for the group standing at the edge of the portal, the fight was over. For Team RWBY and their allies, Remnant was now behind them.
Yang Xiao Long was the first to step through, her hand clenched tightly into a fist as she emerged into the cold, unfamiliar air beyond the rift. Her golden hair, glowing faintly from the light emanating from the rift, fluttered in the wind as she glanced around, her lavender eyes full of both determination and confusion.
“This... isn’t where we’re supposed to be,” Yang muttered, scanning the unfamiliar alley.
Behind her, Weiss Schnee appeared, her pristine white hair falling elegantly over her shoulders. She stepped through the rift with a regal grace, though her icy blue eyes were wide with disbelief as she looked at the world beyond. “Where are we? It looks like Vale, but didn’t Salem turn it to rubble?”
Next came Blake Belladonna, slipping silently through the rift. Her cat-like Faunus ears twitched as she tried to make sense of the sounds and smells of the unfamiliar place. Her golden eyes darted around, assessing the environment with the caution of someone used to danger lurking behind every corner.
“This place... it’s not Remnant,” Blake said softly, her voice tinged with a strange mixture of fear and curiosity. “I don’t feel any Dust. No Grimm. No Aura. Nothing.”
Finally, Ruby Rose stepped through, her red cloak billowing behind her as the portal began to close behind them. She looked back, her silver eyes reflecting a quiet sorrow as the rift shimmered and began to fade, who knows what would happen if they tried to go back through it in its current state. Stopping them from returning to the only world they had ever known.
Before the rift sealed itself completely, leaving no trace behind, the four women stood together in the quiet alleyway. The air was heavy with the finality of what had just happened. They were no longer on Remnant. They were in an entirely new world, a world without Grimm, without Huntsmen and Huntresses, and without the war that had defined their lives for so long. But they were not alone. Behind them, more figures had emerged, having stumbled through the rift just before it closed. Winter Schnee appeared, her disciplined movements faltering slightly as she took in her surroundings. Before moving to grab Willow and Kali who stumbled through, holding onto each other exhausted. Qrow Branwen then followed, a grim expression on his face as he surveyed this unfamiliar place.
“Great,” Qrow muttered, his voice laced with sarcasm. “Another world, another disaster.”
Ren and Nora came through next, followed by Jaune, who looked just as bewildered as the rest of them. Each of them wore the exhaustion of years of battle, but now that battle was behind them. Jaune’s eyes scanned the group, making sure to check if everyone was okay and that no one was injured. But before the panic could take hold, a figure appeared at the far end of the alley, walking toward them with a calm, measured pace.
Jaune’s breath caught in his throat. “Pyrrha?”
She had lost some of the toned musculature she had once had and she was dressed in something that was much more casual than she would have usually worn (a brown knit jumper, blue jeans and brown heeled chelsea boots) but there was no mistaking that it was actually her. Her red hair, so familiar, so vivid against the grey backdrop of the city, swayed gently as she approached. Her eyes, once filled with the quiet determination of a warrior, now held something else — peace, but also a deep, lingering sadness.
She stopped a few feet away from the group, her gaze meeting Jaune’s. For a long moment, neither of them spoke. The weight of everything unsaid hung between them.
“Hello again,” Pyrrha finally said, wiping a tear from her eye, her voice soft but steady. “I’ve been here for a long time.”
Jaune’s face crumpled, a mix of relief and disbelief flooding his features. “How? How did you—?”
“I don’t know,” Pyrrha interrupted gently, stepping closer. “I was dying. Back in Remnant, at Beacon, when Cinder... when she...” She paused, her voice faltering. “But instead of death, I ended up here. Alone. Confused. I’ve had 2, almost 3, years to figure it out, and... I still don’t know why.”
Ruby stepped forward, her silver eyes wide with a mixture of hope and confusion. “You’ve been here... this whole time?”
Pyrrha nodded, offering a sad smile. “Yes. And now... you’re here too.”
Qrow scratched the back of his neck, his eyes narrowing as he glanced between Pyrrha and the others. “So, this isn’t some random dimension-hop? You’ve been stuck here too? Where even are we?”
“You’re in Nottingham” Pyrrha answered back. “Whatever brought me here brought you as well. I thought I’d never see any of you again.”
The group fell into a heavy silence, each of them grappling with the enormity of what had happened. They had been transported to a new world, separated from everything they knew, and now they had to face the reality that there was no going back.
Winter, ever the pragmatist, folded her arms and narrowed her eyes. “So, what now? We can’t return to Remnant, and it seems we’re stuck in this... Nottingham. What do we do?”
Pyrrha hesitated for a moment, her gaze drifting down the street where the distant lights of the city glowed softly. “You adapt. You survive. That’s what I’ve done for two years. You’ll have to do the same.”
Blake shifted uneasily, her golden eyes scanning the unfamiliar city. “But we don’t have Dust. No Grimm, no Aura... how do we fit in here?”
Pyrrha offered a small smile. “You learn to live without it. This world doesn’t need warriors. It needs people who can help in other ways.”
Weiss frowned, her mind already racing through potential solutions. “But what about our skills? We were trained to fight, to protect people. How do we do that here?”
“You find new ways to protect,” Pyrrha said softly. “You find new paths.”
As the group stood together, the reality of their situation settling in, Yang let out a long sigh, her hand still resting protectively on Ruby’s shoulder. “Well, whatever this place is, it’s our home now. We’ll figure it out, just like we always do.”
Jaune, still processing the fact that Pyrrha was standing before him, looked at her with a mixture of longing and uncertainty. “And you... you’ve already built a life here?”
Pyrrha nodded slowly, her eyes softening. “Yes. It wasn’t easy, but I’ve made peace with this world. I’ve... even found someone.”
Jaune’s heart clenched hearing those words, he felt he had finally moved on and healed, though seeing her brought hope back only for that hope to be dashed but he forced a smile through that pain. Hoping Pyrrha didn't notice. “I’m glad, Pyrrha. You deserve that.”
Before the conversation could go any further, Pyrrha gestured down the alley, toward the streets of Nottingham beyond. “Come with me. There’s so much I need to show you. And so much you’ll need to learn. Plus, you'll probably need a place to stay for however long until you get your own place.”
With that, the group followed Pyrrha out of the alley and into the heart of the city, the weight of their new reality hanging over them like a storm cloud. They were strangers in this world, warriors without a war, but they were still together. And in the end, that was all that mattered.
The city of Nottingham stretched out before them, a new world full of unfamiliar challenges and unexpected opportunities. Team RWBY, along with their allies, would have to find new ways to survive, to adapt, and to build lives in a place that wasn’t Remnant.
But they had each other. And for now, that was enough.
