Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Codes was all Nyx could see before being thrown through a portal, and landing in a field of soft, green grass. She was seven. And she was alone. Nyx sat up, feeling sore and felt stinging on her bones. Then, it hit her. Her world was gone. And she was alone. Alone. With nothing. Alone. Without a family. Alone- She felt someone touch her shoulder, and she jumped away from them, stumbling when she got up. She turned, looking at the stranger. He looked horrible. His skull was cracked on the right side of his face, and he was half covered in some sort of black goop. He looked tiredly at her, not taking a step towards her. Right choice. “Sorry, heh.. I.. sensed your emotions and.. Just wanted to make sure you were okay…” Nyx looked at him for a few seconds, before looking away. “I’m fine, sir… Thank you for your concern…”

She started to stand to get up, but before she could fully get up, pain shot up her left leg and she fell on her knee, her leg feeling as if it was cracked and shattered in a million places. Before Nyx could blink, the other skeleton was crouching next to her, laying her onto her back. He was about to look at her leg, when he stopped and instead looked at her. “May I look at it…? I.. can take you somewhere to heal it up…” Nyx thought about it. She was defenseless. She had no way to get anywhere if she refused. But, if she accepted, she could find a way to get back to her world… “Okay..” She would let him help. Then, she would escape.

***

She might be able to escape. The other skeleton, who introduced himself as Lucid, did not bring her to a hospital like she expected. In fact, he brought her to a whole castle, where she was introduced to Lucid’s gang. They welcomed her, brought her to their med bay, and currently she was laying in a bed while food was prepared for her. It made her feel guilty. She didn’t do anything to deserve their trust.. But it doesn’t matter. She should just take advantage of them before she betrayed them and left. Oh well.

One of Lucid’s subordinates came in. The first one she was introduced to. This one was called Blade. He was short, but still taller than Nyx by an inch or two. He.. was certainly a strange one. He had black lines running from the top of his head to the bottom of his chin, which seemed to change every few seconds like magic paint or ink. His right eyelight was a deep red, close to black, while his left wasn’t lit. He had a tan jacket on, with a fur hood and sleeves. His soul though, was the most interesting part. It… was out in the open, but it didn’t look like any soul Nyx has ever seen. It was made of little orbs, floating in front of his chest, joining together and separating like little blobs in a lava lamp, and mixing between red and white. Mostly white though. Blade was probably the strangest out of Lucid’s four subordinates, though.

The second subordinate she was introduced to was called Apocalypse. He was.. very tall, to say the least. Tall and thin. He had a crack in his skull that started where his right socket should be, and stopped right at the top of his head. His left socket was cracked a bit as well, and he had a very pretty maroon eyelight in that socket. His outfit was pretty simple, being just a plain white t-shirt, an oversized jacket, and a pair of jeans. Apocalypse was really nice as well.. he always brought the best food... And he was definitely Nyx’s favorite.

The third out of the four subordinates she met was Hawk. He just had a normal jacket on, with a hood covering a baseball cap and red scraps of clothing tied around both his arms. He wore jeans as well, and... his eyelights were a mix of red and white.. Which was both scary and pretty at the same time. Nyx was pretty sure she also saw him wearing glasses once. He.. was also quiet. Unnerving. And he always seemed to be watching her. Nyx.. didn’t really know much about Hawk. She would have to keep an eye on him…

The last member of Lucid’s gang was Mono. Nyx hasn’t seen much of him since she arrived, but whenever she does see him, he always waves at her then quickly disappears. He’s.. kind. Quiet. But, Nyx still couldn’t trust him. She still couldn’t trust any of them.

It was a few weeks before Nyx was able to walk around. She was given a tour and was offered a room. If she wanted to stay. She knew what Lucid’s gang did. She knew the cost. But, she was also comfortable living with the group. They haven’t hurt her, and she feels like a part of the family. So, she accepted.

Years pass by. Nyx gets older. She becomes a better fighter, a better person. And when she tells Lucid about her plan to explore the Multiverse and beyond to find her world, he accepts her decision. It was sad, leaving her family, but they had a way to keep in contact with each other, thanks to Axon. So, she left. And she explored.
