Work Text:

January 21st, 2012. Winter in the mountainous regions of Gravity Falls had always been severe; the snow sometimes reached up to my knees. The strange summer creatures would lay to rest - the fairies disappearing, the Lilliputtians retreating to their holes, and the gnomes going into… hibernation? I don’t know what they do. I’m not sure if I want to know.
Since summer came to a close and the chaos of august ended, my parents decided it was finally time to do something with me. The Northwest girl who went against all orders and let the common folk into our manor. They deemed that as unladylike, so operation “Polish Paz” began.
Etiquette classes suck. I know all of the material as it is, I just don’t care enough. I couldn’t care enough. We survived an apocalypse - I was part of the zodiac - but yet that thrill melted as the snow fell. I was Pacifica Northwest again. Not just Pacifica.
That night, I decided to take a walk through the snow, hoping for some miracle. Another way to try and show my family - and myself - that I was done being a Northwest. I’ve seen weird things in the snow. A massive footprint here and there, a floating icicle, a bird with mittens for wings… Maybe one will threaten someone and I could take it down. Maybe one will grant me some sort of power. Maybe one will make me special again.
Peering into the woods, I saw something. A cold glow illuminating a quiet part of the forest; it intrigued me. I approached the glow, noticing it was a diamond of sorts. It illuminated the entire area with its cold blue light, gently painting delicate patterns upon the nearby birch trees.
This would make a very cool set of earrings. Maybe Mabel would like something like that - glowing blue nachos.
I reached out for the crystal, resting my hand on its cold, flat surface. Before the next thought could cross my mind, my world went white.

January 21st, 1982. Winter in this weird cooky town my brother settled in was intense; the snow piling up to my calves. Winter monsters loomed around this weird grant fueled science cabin - I think I saw bigfoot trimming his toenails with someone's car. I don't think I ever want to think about that again.
Since the portal zapped shut with my brother in it, I decided it was the top priority to get him out. I dusted off his old college books that he had been hoarding and started from square one. I wanted my brother back, so operation “Worthwhile Thing” began.
Science classes seem like they suck. I do not know any of the stuff, but if it gets me closer to getting my brother, I’ll go through it. I can’t give up. I’m running on hope, I’d get him back soon - but yet that wish slowly melted as the snow fell. I was now Stanford Pines. Not just Stanley.
That night, I decided to give myself a break. There’s a diner down the road that I had been meaning to check out. I jumped in my car, started it up, but… nothing. Looking around, I saw a small dog-like thing escaping. I named it the gas guzzler. I’ll catch him someday.
I saw something in the trees where the gas guzzler made its escape. A cold glow illuminating a quiet part of the forest; I couldn’t be bothered.
I went inside and microwaved myself a hotdog.
I ate the hotdog.
It was ok.
Before I could finish my hotdog, I heard a quiet, timid knock on my brother’s home's door.
