At the Santa Monica Pier, a few days before Halloween, the sun is setting, casting a golden glow over the beach and the pier. The air is filled with the sounds of arcade games, the smell of cotton candy, and the distant roar of the waves. They're all dressed in casual, trendy outfits, perfect for a chill evening by the ocean. The Walsh twins are meeting their significant others here, so they whip out their phones and begin texting.
Brenda: Hey Em, you ready for some fun at the pier? 🎡
Emily: Absolutely! Can't wait to see everyone. 😊 What game should we hit first?
Brenda: How about the ring toss? I’m feeling lucky today. 😎
Brandon suggests to Dylan that they meet at the same place, and Dylan banters that he's the reigning champion.
Brandon: You’re on, man. But I’m gonna win this one. 🏆
Dylan: We’ll see about that, Walsh. I’ve got a secret weapon. 😎
The Walshes bypass Andrea and Jesse as they're holding hands, looking at the prizes. When Brandon and Dylan step up to the ring toss booth, both determined to win, the rest of the gang cheers them on. Brandon goes first, throwing the rings with precision. He manages to get two rings around the bottles. The crowd applauds. Dylan steps up next, and with a confident toss, he gets three rings around the bottles. The crowd cheers even louder.
"Told you, Walsh."
"Lucky shot, man. Lucky shot."
The booth attendant hands Dylan a large, fluffy teddy bear. He turns to Brenda and Emily, grinning.
"Here, ladies. This one’s for you."
"Aww, thanks, Dylan!" Brenda gushes over the toy.
"You’re such a gentleman," Emily smiles.
Andrea and Jesse step up next to the ring toss booth. Andrea looks a bit nervous, but Jesse gives her a reassuring smile.
"You got this, Andrea. I believe in you."
Andrea takes a deep breath and throws the rings. She manages to get one ring around a bottle, and the crowd cheers. The booth attendant hands her a small, colorful stuffed animal. Andrea beams and hands it to Jesse.
"For you, Jesse. Thanks for the support."
"I love it," he kisses her as he accepts the animal. "Thanks, Andi."
Donna, Steve, Kelly, and David join in the fun, trying their luck at the ring toss and other games. They win a few stuffed animals and toys, which they share among the group. The atmosphere is light and playful, with everyone enjoying each other’s company. The group moves on to other games, trying their luck at the balloon pop, the basketball toss, and the dart throw. They win more prizes, including a giant stuffed octopus for David, a glittery unicorn for Kelly, and a vintage-style camera for Steve.
As the night wears on, the group decides to grab some cotton candy and funnel cake from a nearby stand. They sit on a bench by the pier, enjoying their treats and the cool ocean breeze.
"This is the life, right here," Brandon sighs, draping an arm over Dylan.
Dylan sighs into his touch. "Couldn’t agree more, man."
The gang continues to chat and laugh, enjoying the simple pleasures of the evening. The pier lights twinkle in the distance, and the sound of the waves provides a soothing backdrop to their conversation. As the gang soon leaves the pier, heading back towards the parking lot, the air suddenly grows cold. A thick fog rolls in, shrouding the pier in an eerie mist. Out of the fog, an apparition begins to take shape. It’s a ghostly figure, pale and ethereal, with glowing eyes that seem to pierce through the darkness. The group freezes; their laughter and chatter are cut short by the sudden appearance of the ghost. For a moment, no one moves, the only sound is the distant lapping of the waves against the pier.
As the group members separate, the ghostly figure watches them, its presence lingering in the fog. Each pair is on edge, their hearts racing as they try to find their way back to each other and safety. The pier, once a place of fun and laughter, is now a scene of tension and fear. Emily takes Brenda's arm, and they dart behind a booth.
"We should've stuck together," Brenda bites her bottom lip. "I don't see the others."
The girls start to move cautiously, their hearts pounding in their chests. They can see the ghostly figure hovering in the distance, its presence sending shivers down their spines.
"Man, this is seriously creepy," Brandon shudders. "Should we run?"
Dylan glances between the arcade area and the pier's entrance. "We need to split up to gather everyone. We're meeting back at the car."
Brandon nods, and they part ways. Brandon finds Andrea and Jesse in a small, dark alcove near the pier’s snack stand, hoping to avoid the ghost’s attention. He hears Andrea's worry and Jesse's protectiveness before he takes their arms and guides them as they head toward the car.
Dylan finds Donna and Steve crouched low as they inch toward the parking lot. When Dylan comes up to them, they discuss whether it's just a prank. They start moving when they see Kelly and David off to the side. They wonder if the apparition may be just one mass hallucination.
The ghostly apparition suddenly splits into three distinct figures, each of them glowing with an otherworldly light. The three pairs of teenagers, already on edge, are suddenly surrounded by ghostly figures. Brenda and Emily whisper about it getting worse as they start running back into the pier. Brandon and Andrea are alarmed, but Jesse takes on a protective stance as they turn on their heels. Kelly and David are creeped out while Donna and Steve struggle to remain calm, and Dylan herds the group toward the center.
All ten meet back up as they're corralled onto a small stage in the middle of the pier. The ghostly figures hover around them, their presence both intimidating and mysterious. The teens look at each other, their confusion and fear evident in their expressions. Suddenly, the ghostly figures begin to shimmer and fade, revealing a group of people in high-tech costumes. The teenagers realize that the apparitions are just holograms. A man steps forward, shedding his costume to reveal himself as the event organizer. He smiles warmly at the group.
"Congratulations, everyone!" He exclaims cheerfully. "You’ve unintentionally won the group costume award for the best Power Rangers costumes we’ve ever seen!"
The teens look down at themselves, realizing that they are indeed all wearing outfits that are essentially one shade of color: Brenda in red, Emily in blue, Brandon in green, Dylan in yellow, Andrea in pink, Jesse in silver, Donna in black, Steve in gold, Kelly in white, and David in purple. They laugh off the confusion, smiling as they accept the large trophy and the bag of prizes.
"You all looked amazing, and your teamwork was outstanding. Here’s your trophy and a bag of prizes. Enjoy the rest of your night!"
The ten teenagers, still in disbelief, now laugh at how scared they were. They decide to stay a bit longer, enjoying the pier and their unexpected victory. The Halloween night at the Santa Monica Pier has turned into an unforgettable adventure, one that they will cherish forever.
