5: Swerve Off the Road (Dodge This / An Alternate Sister 3)

Summary:

(Part 5*) Fill in some gaps, gather new perspectives, and then change one small detail and see what comes of it.
A retelling of parts of Sister 3 from new perspectives, with scenes not seen in the comic, leading up to something different happening and seeing how events play out from there.

*Disclaimer, parts 1, 2, 3, and 4 may or may not actually exist yet.

Notes:

I wanted to write and share this part of the story first. In theory, these parts should be read in order, but I wanted to share this as I wrote it, so... yeah. If I could make a multichapter fic and just put in a middle chapter first, I would. But nay, here we are.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Ashley's Very Bad No Good Terrible Ride In The Back Seat Of The Dunkel Mobile

Chapter Text

Her mind began wake. She heard... shouting? It was unclear, and she was...

She wasn’t tired. And yet, she had slept.

Her body, still slow to wake up from a slumber without exhaustion, did not quite make out what the shouting was.

More noises. Worry, panic. A rumbling. A squeal? Rubber on... something.

Her eyes slowly began to open, only to close in response to a harsh light washing over her.

The noises continued, for less than a second more.

Ashley’s body jolted.

She felt herself getting shoved sideways, the noises louder, her mind suddenly fully awake, but her body still slow to respond.

The blood rushed up and down her body, and she felt herself spinning, rolling, dizziness threatening to take over. Something held her in place, but that place was tumbling.

She tried to open her eyes again, and she wasn’t sure the world made sense. She was awake, wasn’t she?

She saw Elliot, looking back at her from... the front of a car?

Yes, they were in a car, and...

A piece of the situation fell into place: they were at his house, when Ellen got home. She saw a bright light, and Elliot’s hair had turned white- was still white- and he shouted at her, and suddenly she...

Another instant passed, and in that instant, the car spun once more, and she realized she was buckled in, and the car was tumbling.

Elliot shouted at her once more. “Endure.

She felt the air harden around her, and her stomach turn, as the car rolled.

Finally, eventually, after an eternity and no more than a second at the same time-

Crash

Notes:

NOTE ADDED LATER: so this first bit was originally not meant to be its own thing, but I felt the chapter split worked when I wrote it, so I posted this as a chapter to try and help motivate myself as I moved onto the next part. Issues are that A: I seriously struggled with a specific scene (the very next scene) and that acted as a roadblock, and B: I've become distracted by something else by accident.
So I don't know when I'm updating this but I have every intention to soon, I'm sorry, lets see if my new ADHD meds help, peace.
