fragments of my dreams

Summary:

Having dreams is easy but can you afford it? To be bold enough to chase it if you knew the possibility of ending up living paycheck to paycheck? If it was only as simple to do as being told "you should just pursue what you want to do!" or "if you work hard enough, you'll earn good money!". There can only be so many principals in a school. There can only be so many students that actually end up becoming psychologists. There can only be so many authors that become successful. I would love to do what I dream but there can only be so many dreamers that make it.

Work Text:

I wished to nurture minds
I wanted to heal the soul
I dreamed of creating worlds of adventures
I had aspirations
But alas I am in the present
Pursuing a passionless future
Wondering how different my story could be
I will sit and fantasize
The joyful laughter of young hearts
The radiant glow of patients' smiles
The minds who cherish my crafted tales
I could dream up all the endings my heart desires
But cruel, harsh reality strikes
Pulling me back onto a path I never fantasized
I could only hope to be reborn
Reborn into a world where money didn't matter

Notes:

I tried writing for the first time. I fear the summary sounds better than the actual poem🫠. Sorry to disappoint.
