Chapter Text
Concept: Kaminari and Jirou meet again after high school at one of Jirou's concerts. Here, they realize their love for each other once again.
(Jirou's POV)
"Thank you all for coming tonight!"
My body was burning, I was sweating so much, my voice was starting to strain, and my fingers stung from plucking my bass strings all night long. But this was the last song of the show. I have to give it my all.
The show was in a small venue, but the crowd's energy was on fire. I couldn't help but smile.
I stared out into the crowd as I sang. The strobe lights and all the stage effects made it kind of hard to see any faces in the crowd, but I could tell everyone was having a good time.
As the lights flash and change colors, I spot something in the crowd. Someone. I saw them so clearly that it made me lose focus.
I started stumbling on my words and forgetting the lyrics and the chords. I look over to see the band glaring at me. I was able to recollect myself and finish the show alright. I messed up a little, but it seemed like the crowd didn't mind.
After the show, I rushed backstage to find someone working with security. I pulled up an old photo on my phone.
"Hey, can you do me a favor?" I ask them.
"Uh, sure."
"Find this guy." I say, showing them the photo, "Find him and bring him backstage for me, please."
Hopefully, he hasn't left yet. I'm not giving up this chance.
(Kaminari's POV)
My friends brought me to this show. I had no idea it was her show.
It felt surreal seeing her on that stage. She was glowing. She didn't seem nervous at all.
Kyouka Jirou. The girl I went to school with and had the biggest crush on. She's a superstar now.
Jirou Jack. That's her stage name. It made me smile because I was the one who started calling her that in high school.
Watching her do her thing, I was starstruck.
Damn, I think I'm falling for her all over again.
As the crowd funneled out of the venue, I was stopped by security.
"Excuse me, Ms. Jack would like to see you backstage."
"M-Me?" I stutter.
The people around me looked just as shocked as I probably did.
I was escorted backstage, feeling like I did something wrong.
But it's Jirou. She wanted to see me.
The security guard knocks on the dressing room door before going in.
"Ms. Jack." They say.
She turns around as I enter the room. When we made eye contact, it felt like my heart stopped beating.
"Kaminari! It really is you!" She exclaims.
I became nervous as she approached me. Even after performing on stage for two hours, she still looked incredible.
"Jirou..! I can't believe it."
She gives me a quick hug, "What are you doing here? It's been years since I've seen you."
"My friends took me here. I had no idea it was your show. You look great out there."
She laughs softly.
Man. There's that smile. The one that gets me melting.
"I saw you in the crowd, and I just had to talk to you." She says, "So, how are you? How's life been treating you?"
We talked for a while in that dressing room. We talked so long, her staff were starting to get impatient, so we tried to wrap things up.
Out in the parking lot, it's like neither of us wanted to part ways just yet.
"It was really nice catching up with you." She gives me another hug.
"I know." I say, "I wish we could keel talking."
Her expression lights up as if she suddenly got an idea.
"Do you...wanna come over for a bit? I feel like we still have so much to talk about."
My heart did a little somersault.
"I'd love to."
____________
We sat in her living room and kept talking into the night.
Her place was decked out in all sorts of music stuff. Instruments, awards, posters, you name it.
"You were always so passionate about music, but you were so shy about it in high school." I say.
"Yeah." She shrugs, "You actually helped me get over that fear."
"Really?"
She nods, "You gave me the confidence to lead the class for the school festival. After that, I felt like I could do anything with my music."
"That's amazing." I pause before saying, "You're amazing."
She looks at me, her face tinted a bit red.
"I never thought I'd see you again." She says quietly, "I missed you, Kaminari."
"Jirou..." I sigh, "I can't do this anymore."
She looked confused.
"I'm in love with you, Jirou. I think I've been in love with you all this time, it's been driving me crazy, and seeing you again just made those feelings skyrocket, and I don't know what to do."
All of my feelings just sort of fell out.
I had her speechless for a moment.
She chuckles, shaking her head, "I tried so hard to get over you after high school. I tried, but it never happened."
She stands up and moves right in front of me.
"So what should we do about this?" She asks.
"The answer seems pretty obvious to me." I stand up, but she doesn't step back. Our faces are only centimeters apart now.
Her eyes captivated me. It's like I was in a trance.
She suddenly grabs me by the collar and pulls me down until our lips meet. My lips felt all tingly, but she kissed me so softly.
"Will you go out with me?" I ask when she lets me go.
She laughs softly, "I'd love to. You have no idea how long I've been waiting for you to ask that."
I glance at the clock on the wall. It was really late. The trains have stopped running by now. She must've known what I was thinking just by looking at me.
"You can stay...if you want. The trains should be running again in a few hours." She says.
I shrug, "Wanna just stay up and talk some more?"
"Yeah, but I don't know how long I'll last before falling asleep." She yawns, "I've been up since six this morning, but I'll try my best."
"It's okay if you fall asleep." I smile, "I'll let you rest. I'm sure you're exhausted after performing like that."
She stayed up and kept talking with me for as long as she could. She fell asleep around three in the morning. The trains start running again around four. She fell asleep on the couch, hugging her knees. I killed time by scrolling on my phone. Before I left, I draped a blanket around her and left her a note.
Thanks for chatting with me. I had a great time with you. Don't forget about that date ;)

I made it home and crashed right into bed. I fell asleep so fast, that whole day felt like a dream.
A dream I'll never forget.
