Work Text:
Standing a couple people back into the crowd, Madeleine watched this new band have their rocky start to the show. Some technical difficulties were to be expected, and she'd never heard of them before. They must be new to the scene. She didn't remember their name; maybe it was something about vampires? Based on their attire, she wouldn't be surprised if it were.
It was a three piece: the guitarist, the bassist, and the drummer. Each had their own mic, which Madeleine was intrigued by. They finally got things sorted out, and the guitarist kicked off their set. That's not where Madeleine's attention was drawn, though. She was fixated on the tiny drummer with electric energy.
As the melody and beat filled the air, Madeleine watched the girl in the middle as she drummed and shouted into the mic. This new group had colored her impressed. Most of the house shows she went to were nothing worth note, but these vampire-y musicians were actually really good. And that drummer...she was positively captivating.
Madeleine didn't know how to play any instruments, but she was active enough in her local music scene to know this drummer girl was good. And the way she grinned out at the crowd, all cocky and full of vibrance, had Madeleine's stomach doing flips.
After their set and some thanks for the patience, Madeleine cheered loud with the crowd around her. She watched as the drummer split from her bandmates and headed into the crowd. Madeleine pushed her way over to where she'd seen the girl go. She was lucky and found her at the front easily.
As the next band set up, Madeleine seized the opportunity to talk to this drummer.
"You guys were amazing," she said close to the girl's ear so she could hear her over the crowd.
The drummer turned with another beautiful grin. "Thanks, this is our first real show."
"I figured. Haven't seen you around before."
"Well now you have." The girl stuck out her hand, and Madeleine shook it and liked how silly it felt given their location. "Claudia. You?"
"Madeleine."
"Pretty," Claudia said, smiling bright as ever.
The next group started their set, and Claudia immediately separated from Madeleine's side to dance. Madeleine danced with her, not as impressed by this group but enjoying it nonetheless. She lost herself in the music and the movement of Claudia's body so close to hers. Madeleine was really in over her head with this girl already, but she couldn't find it in herself to care. Claudia was talented and attractive and had an energy like no one she'd ever met before. She hoped this was more than a chance encounter.
As the next band's set came to an end, Claudia pressed up to Madeleine's side again.
"Give me your phone?" A demand phrased as a question.
Madeleine pulled it from her pocket and handed it over. Claudia typed away at it for a second before handing it back. Madeleine saw she had texted "Claudia" to a number that was supposedly hers.
"Text me? Lestat and Louis are probably waiting for me out back."
Madeleine nodded, and with that, Claudia headed off to find her bandmates. Leaving Madeleine with the afterglow of getting a pretty girl's number at a show.
