Work Text:
The wind was chilly in the late October season, the wind blowing generously, the multi coloured leaves falling gracefully. Kids were running around screaming and chasing after one another with pumpkins on their heads and wearing their favourite costumes.
Tiny ghost faces and Chucky’s running around while their parents chased after them laughing. Piers smiled to himself as he looked around, remembering back when it was a simpler time of going out with friends getting candy and watching scary movies all night.
Now? Well now he’s busy chasing real monsters around the world and no time for anything else really. Once he was reassigned to Alpha Team he threw himself into the work and sidelined everything else. But this year, this year was different. He found a little letter in his office when he got back from his last assignment, it wasn’t much but he knew what it meant.
Piers,
Meet me where orange meets brown and green, where the sun shines bright but also dim at the same time.
So here he was, walking through a small pumpkin patch that was created by some town folks. Strolling through the October breeze, his eyes scanning for the familiar brown haired man as he walked. Boots hitting the asphalt softly, the crunches of leaves the only thing he was paying attention to.
As he walked further away from the laughing children he finally saw him.
Chris Redfield, holding a bouquet of flowers in his hands, with the sunset setting nicely behind him. The older man was already smiling watching him make his way closer to him until they were finally in front of each other.
“I was wondering where you were when I got back.” Piers said, wrapping his arms swiftly around the older mans neck and pressing a kiss to his lips.
“I wanted to surprise you with something sweet.” He whispered, sealing his lips once more with more passion and force. “These are for you my love.” He said handing him the bouquet of Lillies.
“Well thank you captain, what do I owe this pleasure huh?” He laughed, softly grabbing the flowers and smelling them.
“It’s been awhile since we could have a moment to ourselves. So when I heard you’d be back a couple days sooner and I was back as well, I thought a nice romantic dinner at sunset would be deserved.” He smiled, grabbing his hand and bringing his towards the small picnic table that was set up.
Brightly lit candles were scattered around the place, softly illuminating the plaid table cloth. A small radio playing some soft jazz music was laying half hazardously across the blanket. The two men sat across from one another smiling.
“I missed you” Chris said, handing the younger man a plate.
“Did you? I didn’t notice from all the texts and calls every day.” He laughed, opening up some of the containers that was placed in front of them. “I missed you too, those phone calls really made it easier being away from you for 5 months” Piers smiled.
“I almost flew down there but they stopped me at the airport.” He chuckled.
“So I heard” he laughed, shovelling a piece of the egg sandwich in his mouth. “Would’ve been nice to see you and hold you for even a second. Thank god I managed to persuade you into getting an iPhone so we could FaceTime.”
“Oh yeah, seeing you stripped down in my little screen really helped me out.” Chris said sarcastically, shoving the smaller man a bit, who was slightly blushing.
The two men sat eating in silence, sharing soft looks and smiles. Piers made the first move of switching over to the other side and wrapping a blanket around them both. They sat their watching the sunset fully set, Chris’s arm tightly wrapped around the smaller mans waist.
“Thank you for this.” Piers whispered. “I’ve been thinking and I think I want to retire.”
“What?” Chris asked.
“I feel like when I started at the BSAA, I wanted a purpose. A purpose that I could live for, whether that was fighting for the lives of innocent people or making a name for myself.” He stated. “But now, now I have an actual purpose in life, I have something to live for and look forward to and I’m afraid of losing that.” He continued, pulling away from Chris’s embrace. “I, uh I, I like where we are. You know, together… and I think me being away for long periods of time will put a wedge into what we have.”
“Piers, are you worried ill leave you?” Chris asked confused.
“No, no I don’t think that, but I wouldn’t blame you either. Im a lot to deal with, with being captain of Alpha and being away for long periods of time to being home and always being away at the hospital because they want to do more “test” on me, its a lot to deal with.” He said, looking at his lover. “I’m just saying that we never have time for each other and I finally have something more worth living for and thats you. I want to make memories with you, ones where we laugh and go on adventures. Ones where we can look back on and smile because were together.” Piers finished.
“It’s your decision to make babe, but I’ll always support whatever you choose to do.” Chris said, grabbing the man once more and pulling him into a soft kiss. “I’ll always be on your side, no matter what!”
The two sat their in silence, watching as the sky quickly turned dark black with some glimmering stars.
“I love you Chris, I’ll always love you.”
“As I do too my love, forever.” Chris whispered. “Cmon, lets get home, we can put a movie on and cuddle by the fire.”
“Sounds like a good plan to me.” He smiled.
He definitely found his reason to live, and now he has a new goal; Marry the man of his dreams...
