COOKIES WHOOPSIE
*Warning: My original character is used in this fanfiction. There is also OOC and OCxCanon ship.
Just another peaceful day at the Reingar’s Academy, while all the students and teachers were going on with their busy days, in a room where filled with paperwork and documents, a young Suin, who had short black hair, a pair of black cat ears and a long cat tail was working on a table full of papers. Next to him was a man, who had long black hair. His face had two different colors, and so did his eyes: one was red on his brighter side of the face, and the left was white. He was no one than the Divine Guardian of Reingar, Kazran, the Guardian of Time.
“So, how does it feel here? You get used to it?” Kazran asked the young man.
The young Suin smiled, “I am. There are so many things that are different than Perlands, and other regions in Cidonia, too. This is the first time I saw an academy that has the combination of magic and machines.”
“It’s good, then.” Kazran smiled as well. He continued, “You haven’t fully recovered yet, don’t overwork yourself.”
“I know, thanks” The young man replied. “I will think twice before neglecting my health like that. Had she not found me, I would have already perished.”
“Talk by a man who used someone’s attacks to cut vegetables when he was not fully healed,” Kazran gave a satisfying smirk.
“Yeah, right...” The young man smiled back as well.
As they were chatting, the door knocked. As the Suin welcomed, a young girl, who had long dark pink hair, came in. For unknown reasons, she seemed confused.
“Hazel? What’s wrong?” The young Suin asked.
“Well...” Hazel struggled to speak out, but she knew she had to continue. “Yuna sent you a message, but I don’t understand what it was.”
The young Suin put down the paper, and softly consoled her, “Don’t worry. Just tell me what she said.”
Hazel then took a deep breath. She said, “Yuna sent a message to you: “Beat a kitten at the moon”.”
“Huh???”
Both Kazran and the young Suin opened their eyes widely, as they were shocked by the message. The young Suin asked, “You sure this is Yuna’s message?”
Hazel nodded. She seemed quite shocked herself. Then, as she remembered something, she spoke, “Actually, it was Adlay who told me about the message.”
Suddenly, the young Suin noticed something. He then asked, “Where, or who Adlay got the message from?”
“From Azalea,” Hazel replied.
The young Suin continued, “And who told her about the message?”
“From Lucy,” Hazel said.
The young Suin then leaned his back on the chair and closed his eyes for a moment to connect all the clues he had. And then, he said, “The message is “Meet me at the kitchen afternoon.”
Both Kazran and Hazel were surprised. “Why are you so sure about it?” Kazran doubted
“Let’s just say this is not the first time I heard those words became twisted that it changed the original meaning. Back in Perlands, when I was young, it happened a lot, too, especially, if you relayed a message through Violet,” The young Suin joyfully recalled the past, and then, he said, “I’m not sure what she intends to do in the kitchen, but...”
As the young man looked at Kazran, the Guardian of Time slowly faded away, and the blurrier he was, the angrier the young Suin was until he disappeared completely. Having no other option, the young Suin kept working until the time came.
Later on the day, in the kitchen, two young girls were collecting all the materials and ingredients on a big table. As they were checking, one girl whose dark green hair clung to her shoulders, picked up a package of seaweeds. She wondered why it was here, and she checked again, just to see there were so many things that should not be here.
“Yuna, do you think it is a bit overdoing with the ingredients?” The young girl asked her childhood friend.
“Don’t worry about it. The more ingredients we have, the more options we get. You never know,” Yuna laughed excitedly as if she did not think much about it.
“I’m pretty sure cookies don’t have anything to do with sea cucumbers...” The dark green-haired girl was reluctant. Suddenly, she noticed something. She then asked, “Yuna, what is this?”
As she picked up a bottle that had a worn-out talisman attached to it, both girls were pretty sure they got something that should never be opened, no matter the case.
“I’m not sure what it is, but we should get it away as far as possible...”
As they had an agreement, they carefully placed the cursed bottle and tried to contact anyone outside as fast as possible. Suddenly, Yuna slipped and the bottle fell off. The other girl tried to reach out, but she was out of range.
As the sound of the broken glasses echoed in the kitchen, a dark unidentified entity slowly formed. With a pair of red glowing eyes, it set its target on both girls. Yuna then summoned her trusted companion, a mechanic ball and prepared to fight. The other girl was also ready to fight while the entity roared loudly and was ready to charge at them.
“Back off!”
A familiar voice appeared from behind, and the next thing they knew was a loud bang. The dark entity was hit by a normal fry pan, and the one wielding it was the young Suin man. The entity did not give up easily, it tried to attack again. The young man did not hesitate any second, he swung the frying pan again and hit its mouth, before sending it away with a powerful kick. The entity flew away, hitting multiple objects and falling on the ground along with it. Next, he picked up the spoons, forks, and knives placed inside the kitchen and threw them to the entity. As they pieced through its body, the two girls could hear it screaming in pain, and they did not understand what was happening.
“Taste good? They’re silver,” the young man coldly spoke as he pointed his finger to the entity.
As the entity tried to run away, the young man threw a pot full of boiling water, which even weakened it. Finally, he created a make-shift Molotov with an oil bottle and threw it at the entity. The fire then burnt it until there was nothing left.
“So... what are you trying to cook? Because I’m pretty sure that thing was not on the menu.”
After everything was settled, the young Suin sat on a chair and asked the girls.
Yuna was surprised at how he knew their intention, but when it came to the kitchen, there was nothing much to do except cooking.
The dark green hair girl spoke, “We want to make cookies and gift them to those who have been helping us since we came here.”
“I see, in that case...” The young Suin stood up. “I’ll do what I can. But first, we need to remove the ingredients that we don’t need for the cookies. Don’t stress it out, okay?”
The young girls then smiled happily, and they followed his instructions. It was not as smooth as he expected. Aside from the dark green-haired girl, Yuna often messed up and they had to do it again and again. Sometimes, she burnt the cookers, sometimes, she exploded the stove. However, after all the trouble, the dark green hair noticed that Al did not even raise his voice once, despite being annoyed.
Thankfully, in the end, the result was still outstanding. At the first batch of the cookies, the two girls tasted them and they were very happy with the result. They felt so proud of it. Unfortunately, everything was not so bright for the young Suin, as he was sitting down on the floor and leaning his back on a kitchen set, as he was exhausted from solving all the problems Yuna had created. But seeing their smiles, he could not help but smile as well.
“Well then, I’ll take my leave,” the young Suin tiredly stood up and said goodbye to the girls.
“Wait, Al!” The dark green hair called him, and she showed them a bag of cookies, “They are... the best ones.”
Al was surprised. He did not think she would save it for him. There were more people who helped her more than he did, and he felt shy about taking it. He looked at Yuna, and she gave him a thumbs up, suggesting he should take it.
“Then... thank you,” Al smiled softly. They both smiled in awkwardness and embarrassment as their hand touched each other.
“You’re not coming home yet?” The dark green-haired girl asked.
Al replied, “Sorry, I’ll be back late. There are some documents left, just a little, it only takes an hour or so.”
“Just don’t stay up too late.” The young girl smiled back.
“This is mine. They are not the best compared to Somi, though.” Yuna then came to Al and gave him two bags, “If you see Kazran, please give one to him, too. I’m pretty sure if I give him directly, he won’t take it.”
Al nodded and said goodbye to them.
Back to his workplace, as he was working and eating the cookies, Kazran finally appeared. Al then threw the bag of cookies Yuna saved up for him.
“It’s safe,” Al reassured him.
At first, Kazran hesitated, until he decided to give it a try. To his surprise, it was actually good and enjoyable to eat.
“You know this happens, don’t you?” Al asked.
Kazran went and sat down next to him, and answered, “Not really, just because I can control time doesn’t mean I can see the future.”
“If the result is still the same, that doesn’t matter. Sooner or later, she will be good at cooking,” Al said, “It isn’t necessary that I should be the one teaching her, is it? You can, too.”
“I’m not really a good cook, either. Besides, knowing Yuna, I doubt she will listen to me. Not the first time it happens, though. Although occasionally, she decides to let a machine cook for her. I’m not sure why she thinks it’s better if she cooks by herself.” Kazran replied.
Hearing that, Al spoke, “Perhaps she feels more proud to do the work than having someone, even a machine, do it for her? That’s what I think.”
“Maybe,” Kazran shrugged his shoulders.
“Everything needs a start. If she’s actually serious about it, I don’t mind giving her a few tips for cooking.” Al said.
Kazran looked at Al, “You... seem pretty good at it.”
“We’re supposed to.” Al smiled, and so did Kazran.
Suddenly, Kazran noticed a change in Al’s eyes. He seemed to struggle and doubtful. As he was reading the papers, Kazran often saw Al lost in his thoughts.
“Something’s wrong?” Kazran started the conversation.
Al put down the paper in his hand and leaned his back on the chair, and his eyes beamed to the ceiling. He spoke, “Maybe I am overthinking, but I think we should be looking after Yuna more. She might be on the edge of having a mental breakdown.”
Kazran was surprised, and he asked, “Why are you saying that?”
“I took a look into her mind,” Al replied, “When I was wandering, I saw two doors, one was black locked by big chains that clouded by black fog, and the other was warm blue. Normally, with heavy air on such a black door, it always contains a memory that the owner of the mind does not want to remember. You can say it is a dark past that everyone wants to hide away from others.”
The more Al explained, the more worried Kazran could see from his eyes.
“So... did you open it?” Kazran asked. He started being worried about his Heir, too.
Al shook his head, “No, I couldn’t risk it. If I tried to open it, it could cause her to recall the bad memories, whatever it was.”
“How about the other door?” Kazran asked.
Al sighed heavily, “It sure was a beautiful memory... about her and her mother.”
Hearing that, despite not being good at reading human emotions, Kazran could still feel something in Yuna’s mind. He then asked, “What is your conclusion?”
Al moved his body and grabbed his hands together, before placing them on the table, “Take note that this is totally my guess, alright?”
Kazran nodded.
Al continued, “My guess is... she misses her mother, the last family member she has. Inside that blue door, I didn’t see her father, only his picture, so I guess he passed away. Both Somi and Yuna came from Earth, a world different than Orbis. They both were forcefully taken here, leaving everything behind: their family, and their friends. I can’t enter Somi’s mind so I don’t know about her family, but for Yuna, it won’t be easy leaving her mother alone.”
“I... see,” Kazran lowered his voice. He seemed to learn more about Yuna, a side that he had not noticed yet, until this moment. He then said, “If what you said was true, then it won’t be strange at all because I often see her waking in the middle of the night and crying. Sometimes, she just sits there and doesn’t move.”
“If so... then she is closer to it than we think,” Al was getting worrier. “Have you tried coming back to their world?”
Kazran replied, “I did, but for whatever reasons, I couldn’t go back. It seemed like something had blocked the portals. I tried to travel to different portals that could link Orbis to Earth, but all of them didn’t work.”
“That’s... strange,” Al commented, and Kazran agreed with him. He continued, “But that doesn’t mean we can try the Chaos Gates. They are unstable and unreliable. We can’t take the risk.”
Al then said, “Maybe the only solution we have right now is to look after her and prevent her from doing anything “unusual”. I’ll ask Somi to talk to her more often. Perhaps it can help reduce her stress.”
Kazran nodded, and they continued the night until Al finished his work.
The next day, as Al was relaxing in the office, the door suddenly opened strongly, and the girl named Somi rushed to him.
“Al, are you okay?” Somi asked.
Al could see the worry in her eyes, he calmed her down, “I’m okay. Something happened?”
Somi signed in relief, and she answered, “After leaving the kitchen, it was quite late so we decided to give the cookies the day after. But some people were sent to the hospital. They have a serious stomach ache.”
“The what!?” Al was shocked, “But I didn’t have anything, and Kazran didn’t feel anything as well.”
“Do you know where he is now?” Somi asked.
“He was out for patrol. Let’s go check them.”
Al quickly stood up. They both then hurried to the hospital, with their mind being confused and unclear about what caused the stomach ache.
After a while, Al asked, “How many people did you give the cookies, and when?”
“It was just this morning,” Somi replied, “I went with Yuna because she said people would not receive her cookies, as she had a bad reputation at cooking. The first ones we gave were Hazel and Karin.”
“Both of them were sent to the hospital?” Al asked.
Somi answered, “No, only Karin.”
“Strange, if the cookies were the cause, both of them should have the pain.” Al questioned as they stopped to catch a breath, “Perhaps not all of the cookies were affected. Anyone else got them?”
“The second pair we gave was Rikoris and Azalea, but Rikoris was the one having the pain,” Somi said.
“Okay, this is getting weird...” Al placed his finger on his head, “Back to the first question, how many people have taken the cookies?”
Somi tried to recall, “We also gave the cookies to Schuri and Lucy, Carrot and Adlay, Katis and Merlin. We also met Lady Iseria and Lady Cermia and shared some with them. The last one was Sir Charles and King Aither.”
“All of them have the same symptom?” Al asked.
Somi shook her head, “No, only Schuri, Adlay, Merlin, Lady Cermia, and Sir Charles.”
Suddenly, they both noticed something from the list.
“Hold on, don’t tell me those got the stomach pain was the one that...”
“I... think so...”
Both of them could not help but run immediately, but their destination was not the hospital.
At the hospital, all of the victims were lying on medical beds and being taken care of by the doctors and nurses. Some of them had successfully threw out everything inside their belly. However, some had to go in and out of the toilet several times. One thing was for sure, they were all exhausted and felt terrible.
“GYAAA!”
The respectful commander, Charles, rushed into the toilet again as he screamed in pain and passed through Hazel. The young girl stood for a while before the veteran soldier came out with his pale face.
“We are very sorry for this accident,” Hazel could not help but bow her head and apologize.
Despite being extremely exhausted and painful, Charles tried to smile and waved his hand, “Don’t worry about that. This happened all the time. I’m glad that the emergency team reacted quickly. Now, if you excuse me...”
Hazel then helped the seasoned commander back to his bed.
“Sir Charles, please speak on if you need anything. We will do our best to assist,” Hazel politely offered.
Charles then softly replied with his smile, “Please, Miss Hazel, don’t worry about that. But, can I request you to check on the President?”
“The President?”
Hazel seemed troubled. She had no idea why Charles mentioned Yuna, however, she knew that there was a reason why he did that. She then looked around and tried to ask the victims, and then, she realized...
Those who had stomach pain received the cookies from Yuna.
Hazel then quickly left the hospital and rushed to find Yuna. She came to her office, but no one was there. However, as she was about to leave, a group of people, who were the cleaning staff, came to the office.
“Excuse me, can you tell me what are you doing here?” Hazel asked.
One of the staff replied, “We’re here to clean the office. You can ask The President about that. She is in her room now.”
“I see, thank you.”
Having a destination, Hazel quickly ran. But when she came, it was a strange scene appeared in front of her eyes. The cleaning staff was cleaning Yuna’s room up and down, left and right, they searched and sterilized anything in her room, like books, clothes, furniture, and many more. A lot of machines and mechanical parts were also being sterilized. What shocked Hazel next was Yuna, whose hands and legs were placed in a small water pool. Next to her was her Guardian, Kazran, who was very disappointed.
But, for a moment, when everyone did not look at them, Kazran moved his hand and gave Yuna a head pat. Startling, the young President looked back but Kazran was quicker than her. He was so quick that it made Yuna think she was imagining things.
“Yuna, this is...” Hazel was so surprised that she could not find a word to say.
Yuna turned her head away, “Yes, this is the reason.”
“As you can see, all the cookies were affected by her dirty room.”
As Hazel turned around, she saw Al and Somi were coming to her.
“I’m very sorry about Yuna. As we already know, she has a hobby of creating and fixing machines, and she often lets anything related to machines around, like maintenance oil and specialized chemist,” Somi explained.
“And somehow, she placed the cookies in the middle of them without thinking much. The accident today was caused by her carelessness,” Al continued.
Somi then asked, “How is everyone?”
“They are safe. The doctor said it would take a few days for them to recover. But no one will have life threatened.” Hazel replied.
“That’s good to hear,” Both Al and Somi sighed in relief.
Somehow, everyone was still alive.
