She wouldn't stop

Summary:

Whumptober day 17: Regret (alt prompt)

Katsuki stared blankly down at his hands. He still couldn’t believe it.

Notes:

I woke up with the thought of "what if Katsuki killed his mom when he was really young, trying to protect his dad from her abuse" and this was made.
I am sorry it's so short tho, but still, enjoy~

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Katsuki stared blankly down at his hands. He still couldn’t believe it.

He just wanted his mom to stop screaming.

Mitsuki had flown into a rage by the time he had returned home from school, and he had been scared to open the door to the home because of how loud she was screaming about… He wasn’t really sure. He understood something stupid had happened, based on how many times she had shouted the word, punctured by an object being flung through the house. But when he heard his dad’s raised voice, his tone worried and fearful, Katsuki couldn’t hide outside.

If Katsuki wanted to be a hero, he wouldn’t let his dad be afraid.

He entered just as a plate was flung in his direction, smashing against the doorframe. Shards of ceramic sliced the side of his face even as he tried to duck away from the shrapnel.

Still, his mom continued to scream at his dad, completely oblivious to her son. Masaru, however, had noticed their child had returned from school, his eyes wide with shock and fear, and something in Katsuki twisted. His dad never should look scared at home.

“Leave him alone!” He shouted, his prepubescent voice high and shaky from the shock of being struck with shards of a broken plate.

Mitsuki either willingly ignored him, or couldn’t hear him in her rage. “You can’t even do a single task right! I come home from work, exhausted and still you expect me to do fucking everything! I’m tired of this shit! Do you even love me anymore?!”

“Stop it!” Katsuki yelled as loud as he could, trying to stop his mom’s tirade, even if he had no idea what it was about. All he knew was that his dad was scared of her and she was being violent.

Mitsuki still roared, throwing plates and glasses around, blinded by some kind of rage. It was really scary, Katsuki found. He had seen his mom angry, had felt her slaps and punches over the head when he didn’t live up to her expectations, but this was different. This was scary. This was what a villain did.

He wasn’t sure what happened. Really. The screaming and crashing of dishes were too much that he couldn’t control his quirk, and he had his hands raised in his mom’s direction, going to grab her arm in an attempt to get her to stop, when the room boomed. Katsuki couldn’t hear, only the ringing in his ears deafening him. While his skin was safe from the explosions he could make with his quirk, his hearing hadn’t been so lucky. Even at ten years old, the more he used his quirk, the more his hearing suffered like he was constantly in rock concerts in front of the speakers.

When he could hear and understand again, his mom lay crumpled on the floor, bleeding. Bleeding a whole lot. Bleeding too much to be okay.

“Mi-Mitsuki!” Masaru called, but he stood still, on the other side of the kitchen where everything went down. He was staring with too-big eyes, horror and confusion and so many emotions Katsuki couldn’t figure anything out. “Katsuki, what did you do?”
