An Epitaph of Longing

Summary:

POV Crowley, after the final fifteen.

Written for the GOetry prompt:
Form: Elegy
Theme: Nothing lasts forever

Notes:

An elegy is a form of poetry in which the poet or speaker expresses grief, sadness, or loss. Elegies consist of four-line verses (quatrain) with an ABAB rhyme scheme, written in iambic pentameter, where each line has 10 syllables, alternating between unstressed and stressed syllables.

Work Text:

In Eden you stood guard of God's domain

But gave away your sword to save them all,

Lent me your wing as shelter from the rain —

How could you know you'd cause my greatest fall?

Through all the years they forced us to pretend

That you were not my true love nor my friend.

And though I wished eternity to spend,

Love was a garden we could not defend.

Now heart laid bare etched in this desperate kiss

You watch me leave, your resolve never slips.

Oh nothing lasts forever, only this:

An epitaph of longing on my lips.
