there was something that bugs kenma whenever he visits his friend, shouyou, at his school. no, it was not that it was too far for it to be a bother (not that it would even if it is that far). most importantly, it was not because he was forced to spend time with him. truth be told, he would rather be with his orange-haired friend than with anyone else.
so what was it that's bugging him?
"kenma!"
kenma paused the game he was currently playing to pass time while he waits and put his phone in his pocket. "shouyou, hey."
shouyou rushed to his side and playfully bumped his shoulder. "hope you didn't wait that long."
"i didn't. i just arrived."
before shouyou could even retort to his obvious lie, they were interrupted by a voice now very familiar to him.
"hey, dumb-nata. what's got you rushing-oh, hi."
"hello, kageyama," he replied with a nod.
kageyama was a friend shouyou made in his volleyball club and the very thing that was bugging him.
whenever kenma visits, kageyama would always be with shouyou. it wasn't really a big deal for him and he was not something who would fuss over sharing friends. it was that the guy just won't stop staring at him to the point of discomfort. socializing was not kenma's strongest point and the staring didn't really help.
"uh, do you have anything to say to me?"
kageyama wasn't even the least disturbed and even stared at him more intently. kenma, despite feeling uneasy, chose not to mind him and faced shouyou who sported a wide smile on his lips. there was something with the he was looking at him and he was feeling very suspicious of it.
"so are you good, shouyou? let's go?"
"ye-" "where are you going?"
kenma blinked twice in confusion then moved his head towards shouyou who was sporting a surprised expression.
"uh, we're off to kenma's house to play. i told you this, dumb-yama."
"i forgot, okay?"
"i was literally telling you that minutes ago. what are you, a goldfish?"
kenma was dumbfounded as he looked at the two bicker. it felt like his energy was dissipating just by watching them.
it took a minute of staring before shouyou let out a sigh. "i'm sorry, kenma. do you mind if-"
shouyou's words were cut off by kageyama's hand covering his mouth. "no! no, it's nothing, kenma. it is getting late. go home and play. yeah."
"you really are dumb, dumb-yama," shouyou grumbled after he successfully removed his tall friend's hand on his mouth.
"okay?" kenma said despite the puzzling behavior of the two before him. "let's go, shouyou. if it gets too late, you'll be the one telling your brothers why you had to stay the night."
shouyou's shoulders slumped. "you're mean, kenma. we'll go ahead, kageyama."
the tall guy hummed and nodded his head. "sure. see you on monday."
"see you." shouyou then waved goodbye.
kenma noticed how a small pout was forming on kageyama's lips. was it because of their weird actions earlier? was he planning on inviting shouyou somewhere and got disappointed when he knew shouyou had plans with him?
he pitied the guy a bit. despite kageyama's bizarre manner of staring at people, he still seemed nice. he was friends with shouyou anyway.
"uh, kageyama? you can come with us next time. we don't mind having another person to play with."
he really didn't mind having others with them. all that matters was he could play and with more players, there were more games to play.
kageyama's mouth went agape. "t-that's a promise, okay? tell me when, i'll make myself free for you."
"yes, i promise. we'll go then, kageyama."
"bye, kageyama!" shouyou said in between laughs. what was funny, kenma didn't know. maybe it was kageyama's face earlier?
"bye! see you."
kenma smilingly shook his head with how loud kageyama's voice was. he then saw shouyou giving him looks in his peripheral vision.
"what is it, shouyou?"
shouyou's smile just got wider. "nothing, kenma. someone was just very happy."
