Bring Justice Upon the Darkness

Summary:

Amelia Bones very rarely had a good date, and in the end, she decided that dating was a trivial thing when it came to her work.

Work Text:

All Aurors knew that it was incredibly rare to find a significant other that would last.

The people who didn't have to fight You-Know-Who and his minions every day couldn't understand just how taxing the job was. They didn't understand what it was to date someone from the law enforcement field as a whole because they simply never experienced it. They lived relatively peaceful lives, ones where they only had occasional brushes with the dark side of life.

Amelia Bones knew better than most just how abnormal it was to have a significant other while working in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. She had tried dating here and there, but things never seemed to work out.

In a patriarchal society where old-fashioned beliefs still ran amuck, males often found her boldness and initiative to be intimidating. They didn't like the bruises to their ego when she stepped up to the plate before they could. Their disgustingly narrow thinking would only drag them both down.

Often, Amelia found herself involved in loud arguments with her temporary lovers. She knew that she had a responsibility to keep the people of the wizarding world safe, but her partners could never understand why it had to be her.

They just didn't comprehend that a DMLE member was married to their work before anything else.

Amelia spent long hours in the office and was constantly on call just in case something happened. She was working her way up the ladder, and her end goal was to be the Head of the DMLE.

Edgar and his family had been murdered by the You-Know-Who's Death Eaters.

Amelia, who deeply loved her brother and his family, threw herself into her work. She knew that her fellow Aurors were concerned about how she was processing her grief, but she couldn't find it in her to rest until her family received the justice they deserved.

From there, dates completely fell away.

Her personal pleasure was insignificant compared to the horrors that the world were going through. Maybe if she was born in a different time, she would be happily in love. But as it stood now, Amelia had a duty to bring justice down upon those who sought to spread the darkness to more and more of the world.
