Chapter Text

A day off together. That was something they hadn't had in a while.

It wasn't the nicest of days- grey clouds huddled overhead, and drizzles of rain would catch both Kevin and Radford when they were least expecting it. The smell of ozone lingered in the air, alongside with a whiff of freshly cut grass. That had been Kevins job, and he'd done a pretty good job, given that he hadn't gotten a bit himself caught in the lawnmower... again. The messy scar that stretched across his foot still ached every now and again.

Asides from Kevin getting his hands incredibly muddy in the dirty work, Radford was rather enjoying himself. He never really had time to tend to his massive alotment of fancy exotic plants, so it was quite the treat to have the entire day to do so. Unfortunately it had been somewhat upsetting at first, seeing some of his favourite plants wilted from lack of care, but he savoured what he could of them and relished himself in the many other herbs and flowers in his greenhouse. Even with a sizeable chunk of his flora missing, the sight of Radford's greenhouse was impressive to say the least. He had small hanging baskets of various different Cacti blooming hanging from the cieling, Pothos and Snake Plants potted on lower shelfs, Brahma Kamal; his favourite, sitting prized on the highest of the shelfs, with Plum Blossom and Lavender sitting below it. Beds upon beds of Strawberry bushes lined the floor; they weren't in season yet, but small white flowers and tiny green buds lined the shrubbery, waiting to grow the next lot for Radford and Kevin to eat.

Radford's garden looked like living heaven compared to Kevin's. Year after year, nothing would grow in his flower beds, until this year, where he learnt that nothing would grow if the soil was too acidic, and so he began to treat it. Much to his suprise, the tulips he picked at random had sprouted a few months prior. Every day he would check on them, impatient to reap what he sowed, and, of course, to see his pretty tulips blossomed. Likewise from not being able to grow them, Kevin had never properly seen flowers freshly bloomed- he had always took care of the vegetables and fruits they grew instead, and just like their roots, growing them grew on him too. Radish, Carrots, Peas, Spinach, along with Rhubarb bushes and two trees; one apple and one lemon. The lemon tree they had planted themselves, knowing they'd get to see it grow it's first lemons after only a few years.

"How're you gettin' on out there Kevs?" Radford called out from the greenhouse, popping his head around the corner of the door, before quickly pulling himself back in- it was alot colder outside the greenhouse than he'd expected.
"Alright! How about you!" Kevin yelled back, but he doubted Radford heard him. He peeled off his gloves and trudged along the much cleaner than before garden, his boots squeaking along the wet grass in the doorway of the greenhouse.
"Ah! There you are!" Radford whipped around from his plants, very quickly and very tightly embracing Kevin. It was weird, they'd pass by eachother, but it didn't feel like they'd actually seen or talked to one another; by that logic, they had hardly seen eachother all day. And honestly, they both regretted not spending as much time with the other just a little bit.

"So, what have you got going on in here?" Kevin lifted his gaze from Radford, turning his focus towards the plants all around them, and the extremely stuffy air. Radford pivoted around, lightening his grip off of Kevin.
"Well, it's mostly the same stuff as before; some plants are missing, given I either need to chuck them out or nip them at the buds so they can start growing healthily again. What 'bout you?" He wafted his hand at the flora around them, laughing softly.
"Ehh, I've just tidied up most of the garden- and kept an eye on my tulips, as you might've expected." He smiled, running a sweaty hand through his inky black hair. "It was alright, but by jeez, my leg is killing me. What do you say about a little break Rad?"

Radford smiled, swiveling back round to Kevin and bringing a clammy hand up to his cold face.
"Sounds perfect.- and a shower for the both of us." He grinned sweetly, gently rubbing circles in Kevins cheek with his thumb.
