Work Text:
The carnival is bright and hopeful yet she’s alone. Her friends had forgotten their promise to join her on the hayride and now it’s the last one. Her stomach sinks at the prospect of being the lone rider. Shockingly, it’s Tyler who accompanies her.
“It would’ve felt lame to do this alone,” she admits.
“It’s weird.” She raises a brow. He explains. “I’m just surprised you don’t have a date.”
“Thanks.”
“I’m not trying to be mean, Bon.”
The ride is longer than she’d anticipated. She’d wanted to be cute in her thin cardigan, but it’s too cold now. She shivers. Heavy leather settles across her shoulders. Tyler’s letterman. His jaw tightens when she looks at him. It’s strange. He almost seems nervous. Different from the handsome arrogance she secretly found attractive on him.
She’s about to tease him when he sweeps her hair back. For a moment their breath mingles in fog between them. Then their lips touch like summer’s day. Electrifying down to her toes. It’s not her first kiss, but it’s the best one she’s ever had.
When he pulls back, his face is flushed as he admits, “I’ve been wanting to do that for so long.”
