Won't let them take you

Summary:

"Why did you bring me back, Granger?“

Hermione started to cry, “I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to you, Malfoy. I won't let them take you.”

Work Text:

The white haired Auror made eye contact with Hermione as she turned around from the body on the table. "Oh! You're new."

"Auror Draco Malfoy," the man said, offering his hand. Hermione shook it. "I'm here about the body."

"Hold on," Hermione said, turning around to put gloves on before heading to the closed chambers and opening, bringing the body into view. She heard a sigh from Auror Malfoy as the body was revealed. The body was too damaged to use for Hermione's reanimation project. "Is it the suspect you are looking for?"

"Yes. I'll have to contact his family."

"I'll grab the paperwork."

-----------

In some ways Hermione was perfectly normal aside from the fact that she used some of the morgue's bodies for her reresection project. Speaking of bodies she had one down her basement right now. She didn't do relationships, after Ron she decided being alone was better. Relationships were tricky and it took too much time and effort. However, after seeing Malfoy, she started to have a mini crush on him. No, stop that she thought. It's a waste of time.

------------

The body wasn't fresh enough,  “The problem seems to be in the brain," she said into her recorder.  "I can reanimate limbs but without a good, viable brain the project is failed. I need a fresher body.” She could always murder someone but that would be too extreme and a line she'd never cross.

-----------

She entered the coffee shop and headed straight to the line. She was so engrossed with her thoughts she didn't even notice the white blonde haired man in front of her. After Malfoy ordered his drink he waited by the counter, Hermione pretended to ignore him and placed her order. After a few seconds she turned, her eyes meeting his, "Hi again."

"Hi, forgive me I forgot to ask what your name was."

"Hermione Granger."

"Interesting name."

"I know my parents loved Greek mythology."

"Well I'm off to work, see you again."

-----------

It became a habit seeing him at the coffee shop. After awhile Malfoy finally asked her out for a date. His bright eyes and smile made it impossible to turn him down. Sadly, that date never happened, a day before the date Hermione got a new body in the morgue. She looked at her clipboard and walked to the body, lifting the sheet. "Fuck. Malfoy. Draco."

Draco Malfoy was dead.

She couldn't breathe, she ran to the bin and threw up. Tears streaming down her face. After her stomach emptied it's contents she went back to the cold, table with the cold body on it. She kept looking for any signs of life but she knew it was pointless. Wait, she looked at the chart, he died a few hours ago. He was still a fresh body. She could reanimate him again.

-----------

Stealing bodies from the morgue wasn’t as difficult as one would assume. Most of the time the bodies she took had no one looking for them. Draco would be a bit more difficult considering he was a former Auror. Malfoy’s paperwork had never been processed so no one would know he was missing. He was unidentified.

Hermione didn't care at all. Draco was the brightest part of her day. Surrounded by death, he was a breath of fresh air.

-----------

Hermione turned the electricity off.  She could still feel the charge in the air. Malfoy's body was twitching still but other than that nothing else. She held her breath, this was a did it work or not moment.

Draco exhaled. Hermione's hairs on her arms raised from the noise. It sounded loud. Then a large gasp let out of Draco's body. Another breath, exhale then inhale again. It worked. It bloody worked!

His hand twitched again. That was definitely a sign it worked. Hermione's eyes roam everywhere on his body looking at the movements until it landed on Draco's face. His eyes were open wide and staring at her. "Draco?" Goddess he was so beautiful still. “You were in an accident." No response. "Can you hear me? Understand me?"

No response. Then she hears a gruffy voice from him, “Am I dead?"

"You were."

"Why did you bring me back, Granger?“

Hermione started to cry, “I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to you, Malfoy. I won't let them take you.” She placed her hand on his cheek.
