Awaken: I am ...

Summary:

8 isolated test subjects are being kept under strict monitoring. The same routine everyday, seemingly unending.

Each of had their own room, and only when a security glitch was announced, some found each other. In a whole facility of people the same, the 8 were the only ones never to see each other, never to contact. But, why?

Chapter Text

Another day, another schedule. Today, subject 9•22•00 had to paint. It wasn't often he got to do something other than sit in a lab or observation room all day. Only about once a month was he assigned a special task, if he was lucky twice in the 1 week.

He was supposed to paint an abstract art piece, based off of the projection in the front of the room.

He picked up his paintbrush. Of course, he wasn't the only person with this assignment, he was in a classroom full of people. The 'classroom' wasn't much though, about 9 stands for painting, and an empty table up front. The walls were painted a plain white, the only color allowed in the facility.

As 9•22•00 began painting, he once more looked up at the projection to catch the basic shape.

A scream erupted around the building.

It wasn't anything new. He had become used to it, learning not to react.

You see, every day there was at least one tell or scream. He knew it was from testing and experiments.

God, those awful tests. Four days a week for 2-5 hours straight, the men in white coats would keep you to a table, pins and needles through your skin for examination and samples. At least that's what happens 80% of the time. It was normal.

Sometimes, if you were the luckiest soul that day, they would strap you to a chair and keep you stuck in technology. The tech would test your brain instead, flashing lights everywhere.

He shuddered, remembering the lab.

"Attention All subjects, this task must be completed before recall and check in. If you fail to complete, you will be kept under monitoring for the remaining hours with side effects." A robotic voice announced.

Subject 9•22•00 just kept painting. The announcement didn't mean much to him, he always finished at the same time as everyone else. However, he never heard of anyone who had to stay longer.

It was just a way to make you finish…
Right?
