What Is Love? (Baby Don't Hurt Me, No More)

Summary:

Gold and White eyes met Blue and Brown ones from across the raging battlefield. The lightning and bullets rained down around both of them. Montague's diamond cracked, Midas's spirit fell. Zeus roared and reared back to strike Montague with the kill shot. Time slowed, and Midas rushed forward. Will he make it?

Welcome, I swear on my Midas main soul, that this work is better than the summary provides, and won't be as sappy and cliche. Yes, this is a Montague x Midas fic. Yes the title is based off of the song "What Is Love" by Haddaway. A little disclaimer, which will also be in the beginning of chapter 1. I started playing Fortnite in Chapter 5 Season 3. I cannot have played Chapter 1, nor could I have played Myths and Mortals. I have done research on both Montague and Midas, yes this will be a slightly ooc story for them. This is my own little headcanon and AU.

Chapter 1: Welcome Back, King Midas

Chapter Text

Disclaimer:: I have not played any Midas OR Montague story lore, I have only done online research. They will be slightly OOC, but this is also a Headcanon Alternate Universe. I started playing in Chapter 5 Season 3, forgive me for any and all out of characterness. This first chapter will be very short, just so you all can get a handle on the work itself and get a grasp for my writing style. I will try to update once a week, or once every other week. I do work a full time job though, so forgive me. Anygays. Enjoy the work! ~Midas

Coming up with the escape plan was the easy part. Executing it was the hard part. He was still a little weak from regeneration. It had been four, no was it six weeks? Since he had finished his regeneration, and found himself trapped in this dingy little cell in the Underworld. He didn’t know where he was, the last thing he actually remembered was trying to frantically escape that stupid shark on that dingy little raft in the middle of the damn ocean. He remembered the pain. He knew he died. But how did he come to be in the Underworld, alive again? How long had it actually been?

He looked around the little cell, studying the broken and weathering marble once more. More and more of the floor had become gold. Curse his golden touch, why couldn’t he ever learn to control it fully. When he was back home in the Agency, it was easier to control at times. Jules helped with that. Having his daughter around certainly lessened the anxiety of the curse, despite the fact he couldn’t give her the love she deserved. He had all the time in the world to reflect on THAT now.

A sound reverberated through the cell. The light that flickered through the small cracks in the framework of the room told him it was daytime. Was someone coming to get him? This was new.

Metal on metal resounded through his ears. He could hear the clink of expensive shoes, he would know, he wore them all the time at the Agency. Slowly, the footsteps got louder and louder as if someone was descending down a flight of stairs.

“Open it.” A voice commanded from the other side of a now golden door. Clinking of gears could be heard, and the sudden sunlight blinded him.

“King Midas, a mortal turned immortal cursed with a golden touch. You’ve finally regenerated. Welcome back to the island.” the voice spoke again, clear. And gruff. Midas turned his golden eye up, the figure silhouette against the sunlight. He sneered.

“Who are you? What do you know about me?” He demanded. He shifted his body forward, suddenly aware that he was stark naked. It hadn’t occurred to him when he had been alone, but being in front of someone who exhuded such arrogant power, he was a little embarrassed.

“Here, put these on. You’ll like that gauntlet. A little parting gift from your daughter, I found it in a box outside a destroyed base.” The silhouette threw some clothes at Midas, they landed with a dull thud at his feet. Terror quelled in his chest.

“Jules… What have you done to her!” He resisted the urge to get up and strangle this creature.

“Me? Nothing. The Society probably had a scuffle with your old crew. She’s alive don’t worry. I’m not a monster. Now I must leave. Enjoy your stay. It’ll last a while. Cerberus, lock the door again.” The figure turned, chuckling evilly under his breath.

“Who. Are. You.” Midas demanded. The figure turned again, the light finally revealing his green and gold form, a mask donned upon his face and neon green eyes stared back at him.

“Me? Why I’m Hades. Lord of the Underworld and lost souls. Enjoy your permanent stay. Midas.”
