Chapter Text
Espresso Cookie sat at his rather cluttered desk, clutching a steaming hot cup of coffee. Rays of light poured in from the window— it was just the crack of dawn, and Espresso Cookie had not slept a wink. Not like he had any desire to, anyway. He felt way more fulfillment staying up all night working arduously on his studies, surviving on several, no, a copious amount of caffeine.
Thus, it was to his dismay when he looked at the calendar Madeleine Cookie gave him— that narcissistic light magic paladin— and saw that it was the 23rd of December. Two days before Christmas. It was especially during this time that he would be bombarded with invitations, gifts, etcetera etcetera…
He had no time for that! He! Just! Wanted! To! Practice! Coffee! Magic! Nothing else!
So, naturally, this was one of his least favorite, if not most despised, days of the year. The Christmas season, ugh. Already two days away from Christmas.. Espresso Cookie let out a scoff. He sipped on his now cooled coffee.
The machines of Espresso Cookie’s laboratory whirred and puffed, sending a heavy aroma of coffee into the room. He set his fifth cup of coffee down, having already drained it, picking up his pen to begin his notes after being properly caffeinated. He had just put his pen on the paper when there was a tapping on the window.
“Really..?”
Espresso Cookie stood up and opened the window. Waiting for him was a blueberry bird, clutching a letter in its beak. Espresso Cookie took the letter, and as the bird flew away, slammed the window shut. His neighbors often complained about the “overbearing” coffee smell, so he’d gotten used to keeping the window closed at all times. At least he’d be able to savor the delightful smell of coffee for himself!
Sitting back down onto the chair, he examined the envelope. There was… really no need to guess who the letter was from. It was quite obvious— no, really obvious that it was from Madeleine Cookie.
The envelope was a cream color, with a wax seal resembling the crystal on Madeleine Cookie’s sword. So… wwhhyy…. Espresso Cookie couldn’t take it anymore. He tore open the envelope and immediately trashed it, shoving it under the rest of his trash. The front of the letter was like a postcard, but it didn’t show anything beautiful like a beach in the Tropical Soda Islands or such. To Espresso Cookie’s horror, it was of Madeleine Cookie himself.
The paladin was clad in cream colored armor, a flowy blue cape waving in the wind behind him. In the photo, rays of light shone on him as he valiantly wielded the Sword and Shield of Radiant Light.
How can one Cookie think of himself so highly? Especially to this extent?!
Espresso Cookie immediately scowled— What Strawberry Crepe Cookie remarked was completely correct. Madeleine Cookie indeed did have the most “ridiculous amount of narcissism” embedded in his dough! Emphasis on ridiculous!
With a sigh, he opened the letter and read:
Dear Espresso Cookie,
Merry Christmas, Espresso Cookie!
As of recently, my aunts and I have decided to invite you for a Christmas celebration. I myself shall personally escort you, rather than having you take the long journey to my residence. Who doesn’t want to be in the presence of my excellence? Don’t miss this!
We await you,
Madeleine Cookie
“…”
Uhh… ??
First of all, why Espresso Cookie?! Choose another Cookie to annoy! Never mind who “doesn’t want to bathe in the presence” of his “excellence,” who doesn’t want to avoid him at all costs?
Espresso Cookie certainly wanted to!
And.. tsk, tsk. Madeleine Cookie’s residence wasn’t even far from him, what’s he saying about “personally escorting” him and “long journeys..?”
