Chapter Text
Fen landed on the swampy ground and walked gently to the roots of a mangrove tree,she scanned her surroundings then nudged the soft roots away to reveal her five eggs. She sighed, relieved to see them safe from harm. Her and her husband, Anise, had been waiting a year for their eggs to hatch, the whole time they were worried for their safety, crashing sounds came from the trees and Fen spread her wings and bared her teeth.
Anise flopped next to her and breathed heavily, “ Sorry, sorry. I didn't mean to spook ya. “, Fen helped him up and he leaned gently into her. They both looked at their eggs, one was very green with speckles of red, the others were reddish with different patterns of green, some even purple. The both of them sat there for a few moments, waiting for something to happen, hopefully nothing went wrong, hopefully they’re all safe, worries echoed in the parents' minds.
Soft cracking sounds came from the biggest of the eggs, the egg split down the center, cracking into many pieces. Fen and Anise clustered in closely, Anise tapped lightly on the side of the egg, trying to help it out. A small talon suddenly burst out of the egg and grasped onto his much larger claw, he gently pulled his talon away to drag her out, her grip was tight and soon she broke through the tough shell. She was a small, precious child, her eyes wide and glimmering grapes as she looked up to her parents, she let out a small squawk and lept into her mother's arms.

The next few days were spent getting used to being parents to the small, rambunctious dragonet. After a while, Fen and Anise settled on the name (eldest sister [i have a paper I need to find/look at for details and names]). It took a little time and fear for the parents to realize their eggs would hatch at different intervals
