Meanwhile in Gori, there was a lot of joy as the local resident Mariam Romelashvili is representing Georgia at Junior Eurovision for the first time. Not many Gorians had a TV set so in this small flat on the outskirts of town, there were around 8 people huddled in a cozy sofa. A bearded man turned on an old television, showing static before displaying the contest’s hosts.
A man wearing an immaculate purple suit and slicked-back brown hair and a lady wearing a puffy blue ball gown and a wild bouffant stood on stage in the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam. One of the neighbours who had been cramped on the sofa was Marian’s cousin Tamar, a tall 14 year old brunette who was captain of the school soccer team and had legs that went on forever. She waved around a poster of Mariam Romelashvili doing a funny pose. The walls were off-white with the TV next to an intricately carved shelf adorned with old family photos and fancy china dishes reserved for Christmas dinner. The sun was drowning in the evening sky as Mariam Romelashvili went on stage and started performing.
