Good Luck Canada!

Summary:

When you wake up in your bed in the middle of the night with your head in your hand "you're nothing more than his colony"

And when you think about me, all of those years ago you're standing face to face with "I told you so"

Notes:

Just a short story I wrote based on the song "Good Luck Babe!" by Chappell Roan. Hope you enjoy:D

Work Text:

Canada’s eyes slowly started to open, waking up from his sleep on his thin mattress with his back hurting more than usual. He sat up straight, he realised it was the middle of the night from how dark the room was. Sighing, he curled up with his legs pressed against his chest to try and shield himself from the coldness of his room.

He looked out his window into Britain's, they lived in a castle so Canada was able to see Britain's room from a distance due to the structure's bend.

The empire seemed to be drinking wine guessing from the silhouette visible, and maybe writing a poem? Doing work? Whatever it was, he was writing with jazzy music playing in the background and clearly enjoying himself.

Canada felt a lump in his throat, lowering his head down to hold it in his hands. “I’m nothing more than his colony..”

He then thought of the other Colony that used to be with him, so eager to leave ever since they moved here. The Thirteen Colonies spent years dreaming of getting out and becoming a country, to be free from Britain's control. Canada thought it was an impossible dream at the time. But now that he had actually left and became an official country, he wondered if maybe he should’ve accepted his offer to join. But Canada was scared, scared of what would happen to him.

He looked up with his watery eyes, his bad vision combined with tears made him hallucinate a faint figure of The Thirteen colonies, standing there looking at him. “I told you so” whispered in his head, echoing off the walls of his skull. The former colony must be thinking that right now. It’s not like he didn’t deserve it, he should’ve taken that chance to escape…
