It was mostly at the currently empty and still bar that Husk and Angel had found solace in each other, and gradually their romance had blossomed over the past few weeks, hidden from the eyes of others.
Husk, with his cutting sarcasm, could not help but be captivated by Angel's charm, not only for his beauty and the sensuality that everyone knew, but above all for the vulnerability that he hid behind his seemingly perfect armor of confidence.
As the days passed, the glances had become more frequent, more prolonged, there was no need to speak to understand each other. They found themselves inventing excuses to spend as much time as possible together, stealing moments of happiness at every opportunity. Angel's unprejudiced attitude so functional in front of the cameras was far from the fear he felt of exposing who he really was, opening up to someone else. But Husk's kindness and his unwavering support had helped him to free himself from his inhibitions. In his arms, Angel had found a safe haven, a place where he could let his guard down and just be himself.
Husk, who had condemned himself to solitude, was surprised to find himself longing for the bubbly spider demon's company. He enjoyed the moments they shared, the laughter and the deep conversations.
They had wanted to remain silent to figure out together what was between them, to make sure it wasn't just a flash in the pan: as their relationship grew stronger, the burden of keeping it secret became more and more burdensome. They both knew that revealing themselves would be a risky move. In Hell, gossip spread like wildfire and they had every reason to be cautious.
Alastor, cunning and Machiavellian, was the main concern. Husk was always under his watchful eye and knew that the manipulative and devious nature of the radio demon could be exploited for blackmail or threats.
Valentino's unpredictability was also a concern: how would he react, suspecting that Angel's love story could somehow impact his work?
However, their desire for authenticity and longing for acceptance outweighed their fears. They longed to be themselves and to experience a shred of serenity. So, with trembling hearts and sweaty palms, they decided to take the plunge.
The occasion they chose was a dinner party that Charlie had made a big deal about: lively and kind-hearted, she would certainly support them. Vaggie, despite her tough exterior, was equally understanding.
Angel and Husk had talked about it for a long time. They could definitely count on Charlie to help them out if they had any problems, or even her father.
Angel and Husk walked into the dining room, hand in hand. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the table decorated with candles and flowers, and the air was festive. Cherri was also present, although she was not a resident of the hotel, was a frequent visitor. Charlie, smiling widely, expressed joy at their arrival.
"How nice, everyone is here!"
Vaggie nodded, her expression benign.
Everyone's eyes fell on their clasped hands, a few eyebrows raised, Cherri clearly biting back a whistle.
The tension rose noticeably as Angel and Husk exchanged nervous glances.
Husk cleared his throat, his stomach churning, but his voice managed to stay steady.
“We…uh…have something to tell you,” he began, scanning the room, meeting eyes filled with curiosity. “Angel and I…well…we’ve been together. For a while.”
Angel nodded, fearfully, but the grip of Husk’s paw on his hand comforted him.
After a few seconds of total silence, applause erupted and Cherri shouted uncontrollably.
Charlie ran to hug them with tears in her eyes. "Oh man, I'm so happy for you!" she exclaimed, "It's so beautiful that you found happiness in each other!"
"I'm glad you wanted to share it. Love is a precious gift," Vaggie added, putting her arm around Charlie's waist.
Alastor had been surprisingly aloof and silent until now. He stepped forward, his grin seeming to hide a sort of smugness. "I must admit I was a little suspicious," he said amusedly, "your disgusting smiles, your sappy glances..."
Husk and Angel dared to look at each other.
"There, yes, exactly so. In any case, Husker has not failed in any of his duties, his work proceeds as usual. His new relationship with the effeminate guest has not distracted him, therefore I declare that I have no objections"
The weight of fears lifted, Husk and Angel felt relief invade them. They knew they had to remain careful, they did not trust Alastor at all, he could be calm today to kill tomorrow, but they preferred to bask in the joy and acceptance of the rest of the group.
Niffty jumped up and down in elation and Cherri congratulated them, not forgetting to warn Husk that she would cut off his beautiful wings if he was an asshole to her precious Angel.
Charlie clapped her hands for attention. "Now let's celebrate! I officially dedicate this dinner to your love! Let's raise our glasses and toast Husk and Angel!"
After the toast, the delicious dishes were served, the room filled with cheerful chatter, between lively conversations and crystalline laughter.
Angel and Husk, excited and grateful, looked at each other. They knew that this revelation was not without risks and the worries remained present, but perhaps it had really been the right choice. They were not alone, they were surrounded by the warm embrace of their friends. Of their new family.
