Cody nervously messed with his hair in the mirror, trying to get his bangs into some semblance of order. Did he look good? He looked good right? He sighed. Cody had always wanted to be a chick magnet, but sadly his body seemed incapable of tanning, building muscle, and growing facial hair. He looked younger than his age, and the amount of people who made fun of his lack of masculinity was too many.
Cody was pretty sure this was why he had such a hard time getting dates. Even though his classmate Noah seemed to think it was because he never acted like himself around women, trying to mold himself into someone more conventionally attractive. His classmate Trent seemed to think he needed to tone down the flirting. Which was weird because both Alejandro and Justin flirted way more than he did and girls loved them.
So, when a girl had asked him out Cody was ecstatic. Zoey seemed really nice, and she was pretty hot too. She had dyed red hair in pigtails, large doe like eyes, and a flower in her hair. She wore a red top that matched her hair, green pants, and some nice flats. Zoey had invited him to a movie.
Movie dates were great, because you could buy popcorn and then 'accidently' brush your date's hand when you were both reaching for it. Better yet it was near Halloween. Which meant he could suggest they go see a horror movie. Horror movie dates were perfect because the girl would get scared and then she'd huddle close to you and you could protect her. At least that's what Cody had been told. He'd never actually been on a movie date let alone to a horror movie.
He heard the horn blare from outside. Zoey was picking him up. With a sigh Cody gave up on his hair and ran out to the red car Zoey owned. The red head smiled at him brightly. "Hi Cody! I'm so glad you said yes. It's taken me about a month to work up the courage to ask you out!" She blushed. "I'm talking too much right? I should stop now. So that's what I'm doing. Right now." she giggled nervously then slammed her head into the steering wheel in frustration, accidently setting the horn off again.
Cody thought Zoey's nervousness was really cute. He wanted to make a good impression on her. "Hey, of course I'd said yes. The Codmeister never turns down a date with a beautiful girl like you." He clicked his tongue and gave her a finger gun. He thought it was pretty smooth, but she chuckled. He must have screwed up at some point, but girls like confident guys, so he tried to play it off.
The ride over was fun. He was surprised to find out Zoey liked one of his favorite indie bands. No one he'd talked to knew about their music. Apparently Zoey liked niche music and told him she'd be happy to give him a list of recommendations. Once they made it to the movie theater. Cody looked at the movies on offer. He smirked as he saw something that looked perfect. "You want to go see that one?"
Cody was surprised by Zoey's reaction. He was expecting her to be hesitant. Instead, her eyes brightened. "Oh my gosh! You totally read my mind! I've been wanting to see the newest Bloodbath since it came out! How about I get the tickets you get the popcorn?"
'Play it cool Cody. Act like you knew she wanted to see it.' "Sure, that's good." He managed to get out. He wanted to facepalm. Great job Cody she definitely thinks you're cool now.
The line for popcorn was a lot smaller than Cody was expecting. When he saw the prices though it made sense. He bought one large bucket. Both because it was cheaper, and because he wanted to try that hands brushing thing. Once they got in the viewing room, they had to watch through fifteen minutes of previews.
When the movie began Cody found himself sucked in. A summer camp, the legend of a killer, a hot main character. When the first kill happened he wasn't prepared. He found himself moving closer to Zoey as his head was cut off. Blood gushed from the wound and Cody heard a whimper. He reached for Zoey's hand to comfort her, only to realize it had come from his own throat.
He quickly composed himself and kept watching the movie. The next kill scene happened when a couple was making out in the woods. The couple was running, desperate to get away from the chainsaw wielding maniac, Cody was on the edge of his seat, worried about the couple. The girl was hot! She didn't deserve to die! He felt a hand stroke his head and leaned into it. It made him feel safe. Then he realized Zoey was comforting him. No! It was supposed to be the other way around!
He shot up and put on a brave face, unaware of Zoey's look of disappointment. So it went. A scary scene would happen, Cody would get way too into it, Zoey would comfort him, and Cody would pretend to be fine. At the climax the final girl was setting up a trap for the killer. It looked like it had backfired, and Cody had his arms wrapped around Zoey, but he was so invested he didn't even notice. It looked like the killer was about to kill her, when the dock collapsed beneath him. She ran and got out of that camp with her life. Cody heaved a sigh of relief as the credits rolled.
That was when he realized he was practically on Zoey's lap, with his arms wrapped around her. He gasped and got himself off of her. "Sorry, I uh, I was just." He sighed. There was no covering this up. She knew he'd gotten scared. She was probably never going to want to date him again.
Zoey smiled at him. "Cody it's okay. I actually think it's really cute. I enjoyed making you feel safe."
"Really?" Cody asked.
"Yeah, in fact, do you want to do this again sometime? Next weekend maybe?" The red head offered.
Cody couldn't believe it. A girl wanted to go out with him a second time? He smiled. "I'd like that a lot."
