Work Text:
“And this, is a raven.”
Jim was very proud of this talent. That of being able to make shadow figures on the walls with his hands and arms and telling scary stores of said figures to others. Best of them all, at least in his own mind he did.
“A raven.”
Spock was simply fascinated by this, figure. This black bird.
“Scary.”
Bones, not so much.
“It will poke your eyes out if you wander to the forest after dark all alone, as it always feels… HUNGER!!!”
Jim barked the last word out boldly, making the other two jump in their seats. Literally.
“I don like it.”
Bones having almost peed himself of the scary tale of the raven Jim had fed them, was rocking on the floor, while holding himself tightly.
“It is fascinating though. The raven eating humans and all.”
Spock was seemingly unfazed by the whole scary tale. From any of the tales really, not as much of a storyteller himself when it came to the more macabre. Now facts, those he could spew out quite well.
“Yes. And you two should heed the warning. As it is all… true!”
Jim made a display of it once again. Flapping his hands and forming the… scary black raven.
Bones was shivering, while Spock could only stare, Jim feeling rather smug about himself.
“Alright boys, time for bed!”
Amanda having emerged at the bedroom door, the hour already late and time for bed for the kids it seemed.
“Yes mother. Good night mother.”
Spock being his usual polite self.
“G’night Mrs Sarek!”
The other two stated in unison when the lights were turned off, leaving the trio in total darkness.
They were all tad shaky still with the scary stories having rattled them all even if Jim and Spock tried to play it cool. Jim having done most of the scary stuff telling himself. Bones however was not amused. Him hiding under covers as soon as he got into the bed.
They all tried to get to sleep, the room becoming quiet.
Just as they were about to settle into sleep, they all heard it. The unmistakable flapping sounds of… wings. There, just above their very heads!
“Jim! It’s here!” Bones whispered.
“Can’t be! It’s just a ghost tale. Just, go back to sleep, Bones.”Jim tried to assure his friend.
But a few moments passed and there it was again, only this time it was closer and louder too.
“The raven!”
They all cried out in horrid unison.
There was a tussle and lots of hustle. The three of them soon cramped in a tight fright bundle of the likes of scary cats they totally were. The lot of them under Bones’ blanket, holding onto each other tightly.
Soon though, the sounds faded. All except those of rattling scared teeth of the three kids. Jim, Spock and Bones.
