It’s not that I like you

Summary:

It’s simple really. Sana hates Mina and Mina hates Sana. What can Sana do to hurt her cousin as payback other than to take her best friend and possibly crush away from her?

Chapter 1: The plan has been set

Chapter Text

Sana hated Mina and Mina hated Sana. It’s a well known thing around school. No one knows the reason why. They all just assume it’s due to Sana’s bitchiness. Since Mina is seen as the sweet quiet teachers pet who can do no wrong. But it’s not, technically, they both have their own reasons for their strong feelings.

When they were younger Sana pushed Mina off the slide. Total accident but it didn’t stop Mina from crying and Sana getting in big trouble with her teachers and parents. Mina stole Sana’s brand new colored pencils which caused her parents to yell at her to be more responsible even though she was 6.

Most of their resentment towards each other grew from their parents. Their moms were sisters making them cousins. Making them competitive by nature. Which only gave them more reasons to compare Sana to Mina. ‘Why can’t you be more sweet like Mina’ ‘Mina got top in her class, what did you get?’ ‘You should take more extracurriculars like Mina’.

After another long and tiring day of getting yelled at by her parents about Mina winning first place in her ballet recital and how Sana had won first in nothing, she had enough.

“She’s so annoying, after sitting for like two hours, fighting the urge to fall asleep she had the audacity to give me that same smug ass look on her face.” Nayeon and Jihyo nodded bored of hearing Sana complain about Mina again. “I can just hear her thoughts. ‘I’m so much better than you ahah,” she imitates Mina’s voice. Sounding nothing like her. The three girls look over to Mina across the cafeteria. She’s laughing and smiling with her own friends.

“She’s so pretty without trying,” Nayeon mumbled in a frowned face, Sana snapped her head to her best friend.

“What did you just say?” Sana’s eyes burned into Nayeon’s.

“Nothing,” Nayeon laughed, taking a sip of her water.

“Whatever,” she groaned. “Do you have any new ideas for me to piss Mina off?” She ignored Nayeon’s comment asking Jeongyeon who just walked in.

“Um, what haven’t you done already?” Sana shrugs trying to come up with an idea.

“Well then, any ideas on who she likes? Do a little flirting in front of her and then she’s sad.” Jeongyeon continues.

“I don’t think she’s interested in dating, her grades are all she cares about” Sana replies looking over to her again.

“What about that Momo girl?” Jihyo asks.

“Who?” Jeongyeon and Nayeon both say at the same time.

“She’s Mina’s best friend, they’re both in the dance club” Sana answers. “You think Mina likes her?”

“Yes, has to right? They’re always together and look at them right now.” They all look over and see Mina feeding Momo.

“You’re never good at these things babe” Jihyo puts her hand over her chest. “You thought I liked Nayeon when I literally asked you out on a date.” Jeongyeon teases.

“Yes, but if she doesn’t like Momo then her best and closest friend leaves her for Sana so a win is a win” Sana sinisterly smirks. She starts observing Momo’s appearance.

“Are you sure she’s gay” she’s not sure why she’s asking when the other girl was decked out with rings on her hands. With the typical wolfcut and plaid jacket every gay girl has. With a face that can awaken something inside girls. Her point is, it’ll be a surprise if she wasn’t.

“She dated that one senior I forgot her name but they just broke up like last month”

“How do you know everything about everyone?” Nayeon asks, “also this doesn’t seem like a good idea”

“I have a large social circle, and this is a great idea, she has other friends Nayeon, they're just not as close to her as Momo.” They all go silent and stare at the table across from them. “She won't be completely alone,”

“Jihyo’s right” Everyone on the table looked shocked and surprised that she’s actually going through with the plan. A plan that was quite literally just thought of with no backups or a way to pursue it whatsoever.“I’ll finally go to Mina’s tomorrow, I think Momo goes too,” no she knows Momo goes since now that she thinks about it Mina posts it on her instagram every week.

Every Saturday her parents go over to Mina’s for brunch and a quick movie. Sana always skips them, not wanting to be forced to see Mina on non school days. She slept earlier that night. Wanting the morning to quickly come.

“Sweetie, we’re leaving now” Sana’s father informs her. She quickly runs down the stairs. “Why are you so dressed up?” She wasn’t really, he was just surprised she'd already showered at eleven in the morning instead of staying in bed.

“I was thinking I could also go?” Her dad smiles.

“Yes, of course!” He took a quick glance at his watch, “let’s go now, your moms already in the car” he patted Sana’s head. A thing Sana loves. Her dad always made her feel safe and protected. Especially when he's not cowering behind her mom.

The drive over both of her parents kept praising her for coming then the attention shifted from her toward Mina. Apparently she cooks really well, and oh how excited they both were to try some of her precious niece’s cooking.

It fueled Sana up more and she was more than ready to flirt with Momo. They’ve gone out together multiple times, mostly due to her parents wanting Sana to get closer with her cousin. She usually just ignores them, only talking to Nayeon who accompanies her during the outings. They’ve also been near each other of course. But they’ve never really talked among one another, well it’s been years since they have.

You see Momo used to be close to Mina and Sana, ignoring their small pranks and annoyance towards one another. But one time Sana went too far, making Mina cry. Then Momo stopped talking to her completely which made her hate Mina even more.

She walked in the familiar big door greeting her aunt and uncle. She fake smiled throughout the whole greeting, being polite and answering their questions about her studies and plans for the future. She knows her parents are pissed every time she answers that she’s not quite sure what path to take, she doesn’t know why they keep asking that question when she says she has the same answer everything.

The whole house smelled divine. Strong scents of onion, garlic and spices made Sana’s mouth watered. Her hunger went away when she walked into the kitchen, seeing Mina cooking eggs on the stove. ‘I can make eggs, what's so special about hers?’ Her stomach grumbled a little.

Mina greets Sana's parents and her eyebrows shoot up when she sees Sana. “Oh you came?” Sana hummed in response.

Just on cue Momo walks in wearing her glasses with her hair up in a bun. She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Sana sitting at the counter on her phone. Her parents acknowledge Momo. Making her look up and lock eyes with her.

“Hi Momo,” Sana gave her a big smile. Mostly genuine after seeing her cute cat apron. Momo and Mina both looked at Sana as if she grew another head. Momo gives her a small wave back before walking over to Mina. It's not like Sana ignores Momo, she just quietly resents her existence for leaving her and getting close to her cousin.

Sana went on her phone texting her friends on what she should do. She stepped out of the room and into the backyard when Jihyo called her.

“Are you actually there?”

“Yes, why would I not be? I said I would”

“I didn’t think you’d actually do through with the plan, usually you ignore our ideas” Sana ignores that and continues,

“Momo is here, I said hi to her” she gloated.

“Okay? Congratulations.”

“It’s a good thing, usually I just pretend she’s not around”

“What’s next on your idea of flirting? Pretend to accidentally touch her hand while eating or something?” It stayed quiet for a few seconds. “That cannot actually be your plan?”

“Shut up” Sana whispers

“I thought you knew how to flirt, we’ve all seen it done before”

“This is different, it’s Momo, shes easily frightened, I don’t wanna scare her off”

“Mhm alright” Jihyo replies not believing her. “What time did you get up this morning?”

“YOU WOKE UP THAT EARLY?”

“I had to do my hair and stuff, why are you surprised? I wake up earlier than that for school”

“You like to sleep in, you’re really taking this seriously”

“Yes, Mina’s gotten my parents to yell at me like four times this month. And the month just started last week” Jihyo lets out a loud sigh.

“Is anyone else coming?”

“My mom said maybe a few more of her friends since they’re going out later”

“Don’t embarrass yourself, good luck babes,” Sana rolled her eyes.

“Mhm thanks byeee”

When Sana slid the patio door closed. She noticed that the kitchen was fuller. Three more girls look straight at her confused. Sana felt out of place, she smiled then waved. “Hi”

“Why is she here,” the tallest one asks. Sana recognizes her as Tzuyu, a freshman. Sana nervously giggled and before answering she was cut off by another girl.

“I thought you two didn’t like each other?” A short blonde girl asks. Sana doesn’t know her or the other girl next to them.

“She’s my cousin,” Mina replied with a blank face. All three girl’s mouths opened wide. While the girls started yelling at Mina for not telling them, Sana's mom yelled out for her in their native tongue. Four of the girls looked oblivious to what they were talking about. Only thing her parents can brag about is the fact that Sana can speak perfect Japanese and Mina couldn’t. Over the years she’s lost it when her mom remarried a man from Texas. Instead she speaks English, which Sana isn’t the best at.

Sana help set the table” Sana replies that she’s coming and leaves the kitchen walking towards the large dining table.

Ten minutes or so later everyone joins the table, talking and laughing except Sana who is feeling petty about how good Mina’s omelets were. After a small silence her dad talks to her in Japanese.

“Sana, how's the food? I told you Mina is an excellent cook right?” Sana forces out a smile, nodding.

“Which dish is your favorite?” Her mom asks. Nearly everyone at the table looks confused and curious as to what they’re speaking about. Except for Momo and Minas mom.

“I really like the cinnamon rolls, whoever made them did really good” Momo stared at her before muttering a quick thank you.

“Ahh, did you make them Momo-chan?” She nods slowly confused as to why Sana has said so many words to her already. Mina’s head snapped between Momo and Sana after noticing the older girl's name come out of Sana’s mouth. Before Sana could continue Mina interrupts and asks her mom something Sana can’t be bothered to listen to.

Sana looks for an excuse to talk to Momo. She needed to execute what Jihyo said was a supposedly bad plan. “Momo can you pass the salad?” Sana asks, sweeping her hair off to one side, batting her eyelashes. Mina gave Sana the stank eye and before Momo could react and grab the salad Mina took it and gave it to her with a big phony smile. Sana internally sighed, but she celebrated that Mina was getting pissed off. She can’t believe Mina actually likes Momo. It’s so typical for her to like her best friend.

“Thank you,” she had to keep up the nice facade around her parents otherwise she's in for another lecture at home.

Lunch went by quickly, every attempt Sana made to try and talk to Momo was quickly shot down by a suspecting Mina. The parents stayed at the dining table talking and discussing stuff while all the teens went to keep and do the dishes. While Momo went back to retrieve glasses on the table Mina started interrogating her.

“Why are you talking to Momo?” Her three friends start eavesdropping in on the conversation.

“What do you mean my dear cousin?” Mina stares at her with disbelief.

“You're talking to her, its weird”

“I'm trying to be nice, you're so suspicious of nothing” Mina tries to believe her but she can't help but feel like something fishy is going on.

“Maybe you can be nice and leave her alone” Right as Mina said that Momo walks in.

“Maybe you shouldn't be so controlling about this” They both go back and forth throwing insults at each other. Making the other girls giggle since they argue like little children.

“Oh yeah? Well-“ Mina tried to come up with another insult but failed horribly. “You're ugly” Sana smirked.

“That can't be true? What do you think Momo?” Sana turns towards Momo and sees her smile instantly drop, her cheeks dusted with a pale shade of pink and her nose scrunching up. “Am I pretty”

“Um y-“ Momo was cut off when Ray came in and jumped onto Momo. she was going to say yes. Sana doesn't know why she feels giddy about that information, shes been complimented hundreds of times but she does anyway.

Sana ends up learning the names of the other two girls Dahyun and Chaeyoung. She also learned that Momo wasn't going to be joining Mina and the others at the mall later since she had to start on her science project. Due on monday. And she hasn't even started yet. Maybe she can find a way for Momo to spend a little time with her? She’s happy enough that she doesn’t have to spend more unnecessary time with Mina.

Halfway into the new Barbie movie Sana noticed Momo leaving to get a snack in the kitchen. Sana takes this opportunity to get a little flirting done. She slid right out, no one noticed. She doesnt know whether or not she should be happy about that.

When she walks in the kitchen she sees Momo tiptoeing trying to reach snacks at the top of the pantry. Due to her slight advantage in height Sana walks behind her, places her hand on Momo’s waist and snatches the bag for her. Sana can feel Momo’s muscles tightening up.

“There you go” Sana hands her the bag with a smile.

“Thank you” she mumbles under her breath. Momo strolled over to the fridge and grabbed a can of coke. She tried her best to ignore Sana being there but while opening the can she accidentally bumped into her spilling the content of the soda all over Sana. Momo shrieked and started rapidly apologizing. She grabbed a roll of tissue next to them and started patting Sana dry. Sana stays quiet and Momo thinks she's pissed her off but then she starts laughing.

“Sorry, you're too cute” Momo blushes at the compliment, she noticed that her hands were right on top of Sana’s chest, making her even redder. She immediately pulls her hand away, making Sana laugh even more. “It’s fine Momo, I’ll go dry my shirt in the bathroom.” If anyone else were to do that Sana would’ve started yelling and cursing them out, and she almost did but she had to keep her interested and Momo’s shocked face and wide eyes just made her go hysterical.

She trekked her ways towards the master bathroom upstairs. Maybe Sana should’ve worn a different color shirt because getting a stain off this white one was going to be hard. She strips off her shirt and begins trying to rub off the stain using the bar of soap next to the sink.

A shy repetitive knock is heard accompanied with a soft voice. “Can I come in?” Sana hid back a grin, stayed quiet then opened the door pulling Momo in then closing the door behind her.

Momo looked confused and it took a few seconds to register the fact that Sana had her shirt off. She stared everywhere but at Sana. “I got you some stain remover” She hands the container to Sana covering her eyes.

“Thank you,” Sana giggled “I’m trying to not get it too wet otherwise it’ll be see through” Momo hummed then accidentally shifted her eyes towards Sana. “My eyes are up here” she teased.

“S-Sorry” Momo stutters out. “I’m going to leave now” Before she could close the door Sana stops her, placing her hand on top of Momo’s.

“Wait, can you get me a sweatshirt or something from Mina’s room?” Sana gently caresses Momo’s hand causing shivers up her spine.

“I think she'd rather die than let you wear her clothes,” Momo joked. “Umm, take my sweater” Before Sana could process her words Momo took off her piece of clothing in one quick movement and now they're both shirtless together. Momo definitely didn't think this through. Sana wasn't being shy like Momo and stared directly at the newly revealed skin.

After a few seconds Momo clears her throat and she blushes at getting caught. Sana placed her finger under her bra strap. Trying to go through with her original plan of flirting. “Cute bra, where'd you buy it?” Everyone calls herself the flirting queen. Well maybe she calls herself that. But even she knows asking a girl where she gets her bra from isn’t flirting. In fact it’s kind of awkward and weird in this scenario. But she just went along with it.

She slowly dragged her finger lower and lower. Momo’s breath hitched and her answer came later than expected.

“Victoria Secret” she whispers.

“It looks nice on you” Sana moved her gaze to Momo’s stomach and her surprisingly toned abs.

“Thank you” Momo shoved her sweater into Sana’s hand and tried to make a run for Mina’s room. Sana stops her from opening the door and pushes her up against the door. Their bare skin touches, causing goosebumps and chills up and down Sana’s body. She places her cold hand flat againsts Momo’s soft and warm stomach which in turn made Momo yelp. Sana giggled before letting go, allowing Momo to sprint out the bathroom.

The rest of the day was uneventful, Momo couldn’t spend more than two seconds looking at Sana’s direction before immediately turning her head away. Right before it was time for them all to leave Mina cornered Sana and began firing questions at her. ‘Why are you acting so weird to Momo?’ ‘Why did you come today?’

They continue arguing, quietly though. To not draw attention from their parents. Mina’s friends walked in. Momo was left entertaining the parents alone in the living room.

“You’re probably making her uncomfortable” The short one stated.

“Why?” Sana has barely done anything. Her flirting has been harmless as far as they know.

“Because of your anti gay shit” Did Sana hear that right? Right before Sana was about to defend herself Momo walked in.

“I don't hate gay people?” Momo stares with wide eyes. Confused as to what she walked in on “Why do you think that I do?,”

“You outed Hyejin to her very homophobic parents,” Tzuyu continued.

“Who?” They all stare at her with bewilderment. Sana tried to think back to anyone she apparently outed but no one comes to mind. “She had to leave the school! God knows where she is now,” Chaeyoung yelled.

“You told her parents that she was making out with a girl in the classroom during lunch,” Mina said then everything clicked.

“I didn't out her to her parents, I told the principal” Sana panicked again before saying “wait no i didn't out her at all, i didn't know she was closeted,” she argued.

“Why'd you even tell him at all”

“It was gross” They all stare at her again. They all looked pissed and gave her disgusting looks. “Not the girl kissing part but the pda, they were making out right on top of my desk” they looked at her expressionless still not believing her. So she pulled out everything she got.

“I have gay friends,” Her statement gave her multiple eye rolls.

“Jeongyeon?” Mina asks

“Yeah, she's dating Jihyo and Nayeons also gay so hah!” So the reason Momo’s been unreceptive to Sana’s feelings were because she thought Sana was straight and homophobic. She knew it couldn't have been because of her looks.

“Wait, Nayeon likes girls?” Mina asks, trying to hide a smile sneaking its way past her lips, Tzuyu slaps her arm and she immediately stops. Sana ignored that small comment from her cousin. No way would she let Nayeon know she was happy about that.

“Also i think i'd be pretty hypocritical of me, i already have enough reasons to hate myself” Momo snorted, then looked away blushing when Sana made eye contact with her. The other four girls just stared at Sana. She rolled her eyes. “Yes im gay,” she rolled her eyes and left the girls speechless in the kitchen. Maybe she’s embarrassed herself enough for the day.

Now hopefully, Momo would reciprocate this and make things easier for Sana.
