Higekiri hated when the light of the lantern went out.
After traveling down the long, winding staircase, which deposited them under a torii that'd seen better days, the lantern was to go out—plunging them into the abyss.
Now, Higekiri was not afraid of the dark—he was wary of being ambushed as Hizamaru snuffed out the candle. It had never happened before—surely he had nothing to worry about.
The light blinked out. A silence followed. Then—
Higekiri couldn't draw his blade fast enough—a gaping maw sunk its teeth into the soft flesh of the swordsman beside him.
