Work Text:

Naruto stared out of the window of his apartment, his blue eyes scanning the village that lay blanketed under a thick layer of snow. Konoha in winter was something magical—the rooftops were coated in white, the trees glistened under the weight of frost, and every now and then, a snowflake lazily drifted past the window, carried by the gentle breeze. The once-bustling streets had quieted down, muffled by the snow, and children were running around in thick scarves and hats, laughing as they built snowmen or had snowball fights. Naruto sighed contentedly, taking it all in.

But then his gaze drifted to the calendar pinned on his wall, and his stomach immediately knotted up. December 27th was circled in bold red, a clear reminder that Hinata’s birthday was just days away. His contentment quickly turned into panic.

He jumped up from the window, pacing around the small living room, clutching his head in frustration. “What am I gonna get her?!” he muttered aloud. “It’s not just any birthday—this is Hinata’s first birthday since we’ve been dating! It has to be perfect!”

Naruto frantically flipped through his mind for any clue of what Hinata would like. She wasn’t the kind of person who wanted anything flashy or expensive, but that just made things harder. She deserved something thoughtful—something that showed her how much she meant to him.

And then, an idea struck him. “Of course! I’ll get her something that really speaks to who she is, something… meaningful!”

He glanced at the bookshelf across the room. There, sticking out among a few other mismatched books, was a worn volume he had borrowed from Sai ages ago: "How to Express Yourself Through Gifts." Maybe that could help. Naruto dashed over and grabbed the book, plopping down on the couch as he hastily flipped through the pages.

"Let’s see… ‘Gifts should reflect the deep emotions one feels for their partner. Consider what makes them smile and how you can show your affection through thoughtfulness.’" Naruto furrowed his brows. “Okay, great advice, but what does that mean in real life? What makes Hinata smile?”

He tried to think. Hinata was always smiling, especially around him. She had that calm, warm smile that melted away his worries—but what made her happiest? She was always doing things for other people, training hard, being gentle and kind. She liked nature, right? Naruto scratched his head, feeling lost.

Then, he had an idea. Kiba and Shino! They’d known Hinata forever. Maybe they could help him figure it out!

---

Naruto trudged through the snow-covered streets, his breath coming out in quick, frosty puffs. The snow crunched under his feet as he made his way to the Inuzuka household. Snowflakes clung to his hair and eyelashes, but he barely noticed—his mind was too focused on the task at hand. Kiba and Shino had to know what Hinata would like for her birthday.

When he arrived, he found Kiba out in the yard with Akamaru, who was frolicking happily in the snow, occasionally tossing a ball of snow into the air with his nose. Shino stood nearby, looking as stoic as ever, though his breath also fogged up in front of his face as he watched.

“Kiba! Shino!” Naruto called, waving his hand as he approached.

Kiba looked up, grinning widely. “Hey, Naruto! What’s up? You come to join us in the snow?” He made a snowball and tossed it at Akamaru, who caught it in his mouth with a muffled bark.

“Nah, I’m on a mission!” Naruto huffed, stopping in front of them, slightly out of breath. He crossed his arms seriously, looking at Kiba and Shino with determination. “Hinata’s birthday is coming up, and I need your help! I have no idea what to get her!”

Kiba burst out laughing. “Wait, wait—you’re just now figuring this out? Man, you’ve got, what, three days? Classic Naruto.” He shook his head in disbelief. “I thought you’d have something awesome planned by now.”

Naruto’s face flushed. “I know, I know! I’m a little late, but I just want it to be perfect, okay? I can’t mess this up!”

Shino, as calm as ever, adjusted his sunglasses and said, “You should consider what Hinata values most, Naruto. It’s not about expensive gifts or grand gestures. It’s about showing that you know her well.”

Naruto scratched the back of his head, frustrated. “Yeah, but what does she value most? I’ve been trying to figure that out!”

Kiba, still chuckling, shrugged. “Well, she likes training, right? And, uh… she’s into nature stuff. Maybe get her something for her garden? Or, wait—” His eyes lit up. “She loves food! Why don’t you cook her something? Remember how much she ate that one time at Yakiniku? She’d love that!”

Naruto cringed, remembering the last time he had attempted to cook. “Yeah… cooking’s not really my thing. I don’t want to burn the gift, you know?”

Kiba slapped his back. “Fair point, fair point. But you can try to learn something quick and easy.”

Shino, his voice quiet but firm, added, “Perhaps something that reflects her peaceful nature. Hinata is calm and thoughtful. Maybe a gift that embodies tranquility would resonate with her.”

Naruto blinked. “So, like… a plant or something?”

Kiba snorted. “Sure, Naruto. Give her a plant. Girls love plant.”

Naruto groaned. “I’m serious! This is impossible.”

Kiba threw his arm around Naruto’s shoulders, grinning. “Relax, man. Why don’t you ask Ino? She knows all about flowers and stuff. Maybe that’s more up Hinata’s alley.”

Naruto’s eyes lit up. “Flowers! That’s a great idea! Thanks, guys!” He gave them a quick wave before dashing off toward the Yamanaka Flower Shop, his feet slipping slightly in the thick snow.

---

The Yamanaka Flower Shop was warm and fragrant, a pleasant contrast to the chilly air outside. Ino was arranging some winter bouquets when Naruto came barreling in, nearly knocking over a display of poinsettias.

“Ino! I need your help!” Naruto declared, leaning on the counter, breathless.

Ino raised an eyebrow, amused. “Naruto, what on earth could you possibly need help with here? Planning a wedding already?”

Naruto flushed crimson. “What? No! It’s for Hinata’s birthday! I want to get her something special, and I thought maybe flowers would be a good idea. But I don’t know what kind of flowers she’d like!”

Ino smirked, clearly enjoying Naruto’s desperation. “Well, aren’t you a thoughtful boyfriend.” She set down the bouquet she was working on and walked over to Naruto. “Hinata’s into delicate, calming things, right? You could go with something like lavender. It’s peaceful, soothing. Or maybe some white camellias—those symbolize admiration and perfection.”

Naruto scribbled down the suggestions, nodding furiously. “Lavender… camellias… okay, great! But, uh, do you think just flowers are enough?”

Ino chuckled, shaking her head. “No, Naruto. Flowers are nice, but they should be part of something bigger. Maybe you could write her a letter. You know, tell her how much she means to you.”

Naruto paled. “A letter? You want me to write… mushy stuff?”

“Yeah! Girls love that! Trust me, Hinata would melt if you wrote her something from the heart,” Ino said, leaning against the counter with a smug look. “It doesn’t have to be fancy. Just tell her how you feel.”

Naruto looked like he was about to faint. “Mushy stuff…” He gulped.

Just then, the shop bell jingled, and Sakura walked in, overhearing the conversation. “Naruto? Writing something sentimental? This I’ve gotta see,” she teased, a mischievous smile on her face.

Naruto groaned, burying his face in his hands. “Why is this so hard?!”

Sakura chuckled, crossing her arms. “It’s not that hard, Naruto. You care about Hinata, right? Just tell her that. What makes her special to you?”

Naruto peeked out from between his fingers, his cheeks still red. “I mean… she’s always so kind. She believes in me, even when I mess up. And she’s strong—way stronger than people think. She’s been through so much, but she’s always smiling.”

Ino and Sakura exchanged a knowing look.

“There you go,” Sakura said gently. “That’s exactly what you should tell her. Just be yourself.”

Naruto sighed, feeling a little lighter . “Alright. Flowers… a letter… I think I’m starting to get it. But wait, what about something fun? Should I plan something else, too?”

Ino’s eyes sparkled. “i love picnics, Girls love picnics! You could take her somewhere nice, Hinata loves nature, right?… it’ll be romantic.”

Naruto’s face lit up at the mention of a picnic, but then he blinked, remembering the thick snow covering Konoha. “Wait a sec, Ino. How am I supposed to have a picnic when there’s snow everywhere? We’d freeze!”

Ino raised an eyebrow and chuckled. “Okay, fine, no picnic in the middle of winter. But you can still create a cozy atmosphere. Maybe an indoor setting, somewhere warm and special. You know, like a fire going, soft blankets… You could even set it up in your place if you put in the effort.”

Naruto’s eyes widened with excitement. “Yeah, that could work! I could turn my apartment into a cozy space, make it all nice for her!” He imagined transforming his place with blankets, candles, and maybe even a nice fire—something more personal than a restaurant. “But… I still don’t know if that’s enough.”

Sakura smirked, leaning against the counter. “You’re overthinking it, Naruto. What matters to Hinata is that you’re putting in the effort. You’ve already got the flowers and you’re planning on telling her how you feel. A warm, cozy evening together sounds perfect, especially since the village is covered in snow. She’ll love the fact that you’re thinking about what would make her feel special.”

Naruto scratched his head, still feeling a little overwhelmed but starting to relax. “I guess… when you put it like that, it makes sense. I just… I want to show her how much she means to me. This is our first birthday together since we started dating, and… I don’t want to mess it up.”

Ino grinned and gave him a playful nudge. “You’re not going to mess it up, Naruto. You’re stressing way too much for someone who’s always so carefree. Hinata’s not the type to expect some over-the-top, extravagant gift. She’ll appreciate whatever you do, as long as it comes from the heart.”

Naruto felt the tension start to melt away as he nodded. “Yeah… yeah, you’re right. I just need to be myself.”

Sakura crossed her arms, a teasing glint in her eyes. “Now the question is… can you actually clean your place up and make it look decent for Hinata? Or will she walk into a disaster zone?”

Naruto’s face reddened again. “Hey! I’ll have you know, my apartment’s… fine!”

Ino and Sakura exchanged knowing looks, both stifling laughter.

Ino smirked. “Sure, Naruto. Just don’t forget to clear the ramen cups off the floor before setting up your cozy night.”

Naruto groaned, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. “Alright, alright! I’ll clean it up. Thanks for the help, guys.”

Sakura nodded, giving him a genuine smile. “You’ll do great, Naruto. Hinata’s lucky to have you.”

Feeling more confident, Naruto left the flower shop and stepped back into the cold, snow-covered streets of Konoha. The snow crunched beneath his boots as he made his way home, the white village around him sparkling under the late afternoon light. The rooftops were buried under layers of snow, and the trees sagged under its weight. Small piles of snow lined the streets, where children had built snowmen and left trails from their snowball fights. Smoke curled from chimneys, adding warmth to the chilly scene. Despite the cold, Konoha looked peaceful, serene.

Naruto shoved his hands into his pockets, his breath misting in front of him as he walked. His mind was already racing with ideas. He could get some candles, maybe buy one of those fluffy blankets he’d seen at the market. And he’d need to clean up—really clean up. But most of all, he needed to write that letter.

---

Back at his apartment, Naruto stood in the middle of the living room, surveying the scene. Blankets were scattered on the couch, ramen cups littered the small table, and random shinobi gear was strewn across the floor. “Alright,” he muttered to himself. “First things first: Operation Clean Up.”

Hours later, Naruto stood proudly in the now spotless apartment. The floors were clear, the table was wiped down, and his gear was neatly stowed away. The only thing left was setting up the special evening. He could almost see it now—soft candlelight reflecting off the snow outside, a cozy blanket to sit on, and Hinata smiling at him from across the room, her cheeks flushed with happiness.

But first, there was that letter. Naruto sat down at his small desk, tapping the pen against the blank paper in front of him. His eyes narrowed in concentration.

“How hard can it be?” he muttered, then scribbled a few lines before crossing them out immediately.

---

Hours passed, and Naruto was still at his desk, surrounded by crumpled pieces of paper. He groaned, leaning back in his chair, exasperated. "Why is writing so much harder than fighting?!"

Just then, there was a knock at the door. Naruto opened it to find Shikamaru, his usual bored expression on his face.

“Yo, Naruto,” Shikamaru greeted lazily. “You looked like you needed some help with something, so I figured I’d drop by.”

Naruto blinked in surprise. “Wait, how’d you know?”

Shikamaru shrugged. “Kiba told me. Word travels fast, especially when you’re panicking about Hinata’s birthday.”

Naruto sighed. “I’m trying to write her this letter, but it’s so hard! I don’t know what to say that’s… you know… mushy, but not too mushy.”

Shikamaru chuckled, stepping inside and glancing at the piles of crumpled papers. “Troublesome. Just be honest. Hinata’s not gonna care about fancy words—she cares about what you feel.”

Naruto looked at him skeptically. “You make it sound so easy.”

“It is easy. You’re making it hard,” Shikamaru said with a sigh. “Look, you’re the guy who saved the world. You can write one letter to your girlfriend, right?”

Naruto blinked, then slowly nodded. “Yeah… yeah, I can. I just gotta be myself.”

With that, Naruto picked up his pen again and started writing, this time not overthinking it. He wrote about how much Hinata meant to him, how she’d always believed in him, and how grateful he was to have her by his side. When he finished, he looked at the letter and smiled. It wasn’t perfect, but it was him.

Shikamaru nodded approvingly as Naruto folded the letter and tucked it into an envelope. “See? Not so hard.”

Naruto grinned, feeling more confident. “Thanks, Shikamaru. I owe you one.”

Shikamaru waved him off lazily. “You owe me nothing. Just don’t forget to light the candles when she gets here.”

With that, Naruto felt ready. The snowy village outside might have been cold, but inside, he knew the warmth he was creating for Hinata would make this birthday one to remember.

~~~~~~~~~~~
The snow fell softly over the village of Konoha, dusting the rooftops and streets with a gentle layer of white. It was the kind of morning that felt magical—the world was hushed under the snow, the air crisp and clean. Hinata pulled her scarf tighter around her neck, watching as her breath formed little clouds in front of her.
Naruto approached, holding out a bouquet of lavender flowers intertwined with delicate white camellias.
Her heart raced as she took in the sight. “For me?” she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion.
Naruto nodded, his blue eyes shining with warmth. “I thought they’d remind you of the beauty you bring into my life.”
Tears welled in Hinata’s eyes at his thoughtful gesture, her heart swelling with gratitude and love for the boy who had become everything to her.
"Happy birthday, Hinata!" Naruto said, a bit louder than necessary, as they walked down the street. His voice carried over the quiet of the snowfall, and Hinata smiled shyly, her cheeks already flushed from the cold.
"Thank you, Naruto-kun," she replied, her voice soft but warm. She felt a sense of peace being next to him, knowing that they were about to spend the entire day together, just the two of them. It was a rare opportunity, with Naruto always being so busy, and she wanted to cherish every moment.
Naruto rubbed his hands together to warm them up, glancing over at her with a grin. "I’ve got the whole day planned out. We’ll start with breakfast, and then... well, I don’t want to spoil it, but it’s gonna be awesome. You’ll love it, I promise!"
Hinata’s heart fluttered at the thought. Spending the entire day with Naruto was already a gift, and she didn’t need anything more. "I’m sure it will be wonderful," she said softly.
As they turned a corner, the peacefulness of the snowy morning was interrupted by a sudden, excited voice. "Naruto-senpai!"
Naruto flinched, as if he hadn’t quite expected it. A young woman, no older than twenty, was running toward them with a wide smile on her face, carrying a small wrapped package. "I just wanted to give you this! It’s a Rinne Festival gift for everything you’ve done for the village!"
Before Naruto could even react, she was handing him the gift, her eyes practically sparkling. "Thank you so much for protecting us during the war! You’re amazing, Naruto-senpai!"
Naruto, ever the kind soul, scratched the back of his head with a sheepish grin. "Oh, uh, thanks! You didn’t have to get me anything."
The fangirl waved her hand dismissively. "Of course I did! You’re the hero of Konoha!" She turned to Hinata, barely glancing at her. "You’re so lucky to be with someone like Naruto-senpai."
Hinata blinked, taken aback by the girl's enthusiasm. Before she could say anything, more voices echoed down the street. Another group of girls appeared, all carrying gifts or little tokens, their faces lit with excitement as they spotted Naruto.
"Naruto-senpai! Over here!"
Hinata tried not to let the sinking feeling in her stomach show. It wasn’t that she was jealous—not really—but she had hoped to spend this day quietly with Naruto. Now, it seemed like every step they took was met with another fan who wanted to shower him with admiration. Naruto, for his part, was doing his best to be polite, accepting each gift with a smile and a "thank you," but even he seemed a little overwhelmed.
"Uh, thanks, guys," Naruto said, trying to maneuver through the growing crowd. "But, you know, today’s kind of a special day... I’m, uh, spending it with my girlfriend, so…"
The girls either didn’t hear him or chose to ignore his words entirely, continuing to talk over each other as they handed him more and more gifts.
"I made you this scarf, Naruto-senpai! Do you like it?"
"I brought you some homemade cookies!"
"Can I take a picture with you?"
Naruto’s eyes darted to Hinata, his smile faltering for just a moment. He looked like he wanted to say something, but the swarm of fangirls around him made it impossible. He shifted uncomfortably, trying to keep the mood light. "H-Hey, I really appreciate all this, but—"
"Naruto-senpai! I wrote you a letter!"
"Here, take this—it’s a little charm for good luck!"
Hinata, ever patient, stood to the side, watching quietly as Naruto tried to juggle the endless flow of admiration. She didn’t mind his popularity, not at all. But today was her birthday, and she couldn’t help but feel a small pang of disappointment. She had imagined the day being just the two of them, walking peacefully through the snow-covered streets of Konoha. Now, it felt like they were in the middle of a festival dedicated to Naruto.
Finally, Naruto managed to slip through the crowd, grabbing Hinata’s hand as they continued walking. "Sorry about that, Hinata," he muttered, his face flushed with embarrassment. "I didn’t think there’d be so many people out today."
Hinata smiled softly, shaking her head. "It’s alright, Naruto-kun. They just admire you… they’re grateful for everything you’ve done."
"Yeah, but I want to spend this day with you," Naruto said, sounding more serious than usual. "This is your day. You deserve my full attention." His blue eyes were determined, and Hinata’s heart warmed at his sincerity.
But as soon as they turned another corner, there was another group of fangirls waiting. "Naruto-senpai! Over here!"
Naruto groaned inwardly, muttering under his breath, "You’ve got to be kidding me…"
This time, the crowd was even larger, with a mix of younger girls and some older women too. The snow made everything feel festive, and apparently, Naruto was the star attraction. One girl waved a homemade Naruto doll at him while another eagerly shoved a small box of chocolates into his hands.
"Naruto-senpai, you’re our hero!"
"You’ve done so much for the village—we just wanted to thank you!"
Naruto tried to respond, his voice strained as he kept glancing at Hinata. "Uh, thanks, really, but I’m kind of—"
"Naruto-senpai, you’re amazing!"
"You’re so strong, and brave, and…"
Hinata could see the frustration building in Naruto’s expression. He wanted to be nice—of course he did—but it was obvious he was feeling trapped. She squeezed his hand gently, giving him a reassuring smile. "It’s alright, Naruto-kun."
But Naruto wasn’t having it. He turned to face the crowd, raising his voice a little. "Hey, everyone, I really appreciate all the gifts and everything, but today is my girlfriend's birthday, and I want to spend the day with her."
There was a brief pause as the fangirls processed his words. A few of them looked surprised, others slightly disappointed, but Naruto’s kind tone kept them from being upset. One girl finally spoke up, looking at Hinata with wide eyes. "Oh, it’s your birthday? I… I didn’t realize."
Another girl chimed in. "You’re so lucky, Hinata-san. Naruto-senpai is amazing."
Hinata blushed, feeling the attention shift to her. She smiled politely, bowing her head slightly. "Thank you."
Naruto, still holding Hinata’s hand, smiled awkwardly at the crowd. "Yeah, she’s pretty amazing too. So, uh, we’re gonna go now. Thanks again for everything, but… we’ve got plans!"
With that, Naruto gently tugged Hinata away from the crowd, making a hasty escape. As they walked further down the snowy street, the sound of fangirls finally faded behind them.
Naruto let out a long sigh of relief, his shoulders relaxing. "Man, that was intense. I didn’t think I’d get swarmed like that."
Hinata chuckled softly, glancing at him. "They really admire you, Naruto-kun."
Naruto shook his head, laughing lightly. "Yeah, but I’d rather admire you today." He gave her a sheepish smile. "I’m sorry about all the interruptions. I wanted this day to be special."
Hinata’s heart swelled at his words. She squeezed his hand gently, feeling the warmth of his touch despite the cold. "It’s already special, Naruto-kun. Just being with you… that’s all I want."
Naruto’s smile softened, and for a moment, the chaos of the morning melted away. The village around them was peaceful again, the snow falling softly, blanketing the streets in white. Together, they walked hand-in-hand, the world outside quiet and calm, as if it was just the two of them in all of Konoha.
And that, Hinata thought, was the best birthday gift of all.
~~~~

Just as the snowfall began to lighten, Naruto and Hinata found themselves relaxing into the quiet of the village again. The air was crisp, the streets lined with untouched white, making everything look serene and peaceful. Naruto felt like they were finally getting the peaceful day he had imagined—just him and Hinata, with no interruptions. He glanced over at her, watching the way the soft snowflakes clung to her dark hair. Her beauty in that moment seemed effortless, as natural as the wintery scene surrounding them.

But, of course, peace wasn’t meant to last.

"Naruto-senpai!" another voice pierced the calm.

Naruto’s eyes widened, and he turned to see another group of fangirls rushing toward them. They were waving more gifts, their excited faces full of admiration. There were even more of them this time, and the sight of their numbers made Naruto’s stomach sink. He loved his village, and he truly appreciated everyone’s gratitude, but this was too much.

Naruto turned back to Hinata, who smiled at him with her usual gentle understanding. Even though she wasn’t showing it, he knew that all this attention from his fangirls was probably overwhelming her. This was her day, and he was determined to make sure she felt special. The last thing he wanted was for her to feel lost in the chaos.

“Alright,” Naruto muttered to himself, a determined spark lighting up in his eyes. “That’s enough.”

Before Hinata could react, Naruto swiftly stepped toward her and, without a word, scooped her up into his arms, lifting her effortlessly off the snowy ground. Hinata gasped, her lavender eyes wide with surprise, her hands instinctively gripping his jacket.

“N-Naruto-kun!” she stammered, her cheeks flushing a deep red.

But Naruto wasn’t about to stop. He gave her a quick grin. “Hold on tight, Hinata. We’re outta here!”

And with a powerful leap, Naruto jumped onto the nearest rooftop, leaving the flurry of fangirls behind them. Hinata’s breath caught in her throat as they soared through the air, the snow-covered rooftops passing below them in a blur. The wind whipped gently around them, carrying with it the icy scent of winter, and for a moment, all she could feel was the warmth of Naruto’s embrace. It was both exhilarating and calming at the same time.

Naruto’s focus was sharp as he leapt from roof to roof, making sure to put enough distance between them and the village streets. He wanted to find a place where no one would interrupt them again—somewhere quiet, where he could finally have a moment alone with Hinata. After a few minutes of swift movement, they reached a rooftop on the far side of the village, away from the bustling streets and curious eyes.

Naruto landed gracefully, setting Hinata gently on her feet. She was still catching her breath, her face flushed from both the cold and the unexpected way he had whisked her away. Her heart raced in her chest, not from the jump, but from being held so close to him. The warmth of his touch lingered, and her cheeks tingled with the sensation.

“Naruto-kun…” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Naruto stepped back, his own face a little red from the cold—and maybe a bit from the rush of holding her like that. He scratched the back of his head sheepishly, grinning at her in that boyish, charming way. “Sorry about that, Hinata. I just… I really wanted to get away from all the noise, you know? I wanted today to be just about you.”

Hinata stared at him for a moment, her heart swelling with emotion. She was so used to being in the background—supporting others from the sidelines—that Naruto’s dedication to making her feel special felt almost overwhelming. He was the hero of Konoha, the man everyone admired, and yet here he was, doing everything he could to ensure she felt seen and cherished.

“You didn’t have to do that,” she said softly, though there was a smile in her voice. “I would’ve been fine…”

“But you shouldn’t have to just be ‘fine,’” Naruto interrupted, his tone a little more serious than usual. He stepped closer, his blue eyes locked onto hers, the sincerity in them clear. “Today’s your birthday, Hinata. I don’t want you to feel like you’re sharing it with anyone else. You’ve done so much for me… I want to do something for you.”

Hinata’s breath hitched as he said that. She felt a warmth bloom in her chest, a mix of gratitude and something deeper. She opened her mouth to respond, but the words seemed to get stuck in her throat. She didn’t know how to express the emotions bubbling inside her—how could she possibly tell Naruto what it meant to hear him say those things?

Naruto reached into his pocket, pulling out a small, carefully wrapped box. He held it out toward her, his expression softening into something more tender. “I… I wanted to give you this. I’ve been thinking about it for a while, and I hope you like it.”

Hinata blinked, her gaze dropping to the box in his hand. For a moment, she hesitated, her heart racing again as she slowly reached out to take it. The box felt light in her hands, and she carefully began to unwrap it, her fingers trembling slightly from both the cold and the anticipation.

When she finally lifted the lid, her eyes widened in surprise.

Inside the box was a delicate silver necklace, and at the center of it hung a small, intricately designed pendant—the symbol of the Uzumaki clan. The spiraling pattern was both simple and elegant, and it shimmered faintly in the light of the snow-covered village. Hinata’s breath caught in her throat as she stared at it, unable to believe what she was seeing.

“Naruto-kun…” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Naruto rubbed the back of his neck, looking a little nervous. “I know it’s not, like, the most expensive thing or anything, but I wanted to give you something meaningful. The Uzumaki symbol… it’s part of my family, and I wanted you to have it. I guess it’s kind of my way of saying that you’re part of my life now. You’ve always been there for me, and… well, I just wanted you to know how much you mean to me.”

Hinata’s eyes filled with tears as she looked up at him, her heart swelling with emotions too big to contain. She had always known Naruto to be thoughtful in his own unique way, but this… this was more than she had ever expected. The necklace wasn’t just a gift—it was a symbol of the bond they shared, of the way their lives had intertwined in ways she had only ever dreamed of.

“Naruto-kun… it’s beautiful,” she managed to say, her voice trembling with emotion. “I… I don’t know what to say.”

Naruto smiled, his gaze soft as he reached out and gently brushed a tear from her cheek. “You don’t have to say anything, Hinata. I’m just glad you like it.”

Hinata clutched the necklace tightly in her hand, feeling the cool metal press against her skin. It felt like a promise—a promise that no matter what happened, they would always have each other. And in that moment, standing in the quiet of the snow-covered rooftops, with only the sound of the wind and the gentle fall of snow around them, Hinata felt something shift in her heart.

Naruto, ever the boy who chased after his dreams, had become the man who now stood before her, offering not just his heart, but a future full of possibilities. And Hinata, the girl who had once watched him from afar, now stood at his side, knowing that this—this—was only the beginning.

"Thank you, Naruto-kun," she whispered, her voice full of emotion as she stepped closer to him, her heart full. "I’ll treasure it always."

Naruto smiled down at her, his eyes shining with warmth as he placed his hand gently on her shoulder. "Happy birthday, Hinata."

~~~~~~~
As the day unfolded, time seemed to slow down for Naruto and Hinata. After escaping the crowded streets and finding their peace, the rest of the day felt like it belonged only to them. Snow continued to fall softly, dusting the rooftops and streets of Konoha in a delicate white. The village was serene now, a perfect winter wonderland that created the most picturesque backdrop for Hinata’s special day. The way Naruto stayed close to her, always holding her hand or sending her a reassuring smile, made her feel cherished.
They spent the entire afternoon together, walking through the snowy village, visiting quiet spots they had once passed as friends but were now sharing as something much more. Naruto pointed out the place where they had first trained together, grinning as he told stories about his childhood mischief, while Hinata listened, giggling at his antics.
Every moment felt precious, and with each passing hour, Hinata’s heart swelled with a sense of gratitude and happiness. She had never imagined a day like this—a day where it was just the two of them, no distractions, no duties—just Naruto, making her feel like the center of his world.
As the evening approached, the sky above them began to deepen into a soft twilight. The golden light of the setting sun filtered through the snow-laden clouds, casting an ethereal glow over the village. Naruto squeezed Hinata’s hand gently, looking down at her with a glint of excitement in his eyes.
“Hinata,” he began, his voice soft but full of warmth, “there’s one more thing I’ve been planning for today. It’s not much, but…” He trailed off, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly, “I thought we could go back to my place and have a cozy dinner. Just the two of us.”
Hinata’s heart fluttered at his words. She smiled up at him, her cheeks rosy from both the cold and the warmth in her chest. “That sounds perfect, Naruto-kun,” she said softly, her lavender eyes shining with affection.
Naruto grinned, clearly pleased with her response, and without wasting a moment, they made their way to his apartment. By the time they arrived, the snow had thickened slightly, creating a soft crunch under their feet as they walked up the stairs to his door. Naruto was practically bouncing with excitement as he opened the door, gesturing for Hinata to enter.
Inside, Hinata was greeted by the sight of a cozy, warmly lit space. Naruto had clearly put a lot of thought into making the apartment feel inviting for the evening. The lights were dimmed, and there were soft blankets draped over the couch. A few candles flickered on the windowsill, casting a warm, amber glow around the room, and the faint scent of something sweet and earthy lingered in the air. Hinata felt a rush of warmth fill her as she took it all in.
“Naruto-kun,” she breathed, looking around the room with wide, appreciative eyes. “This is… this is amazing. You really went all out.”
Naruto scratched the back of his neck, his cheeks a little pink from her praise. “Heh, well, I wanted it to be special for you. You deserve that, Hinata.”
Her heart melted at his words, and she felt a surge of affection for the man standing before her. Every little detail, every effort he had put into making this day perfect, made her feel more cherished than ever.
Hinata removed her scarf, her cheeks still flushed from the chill and the emotions of the day. Naruto fidgeted for a moment before reaching into his pocket, pulling out a folded piece of paper.
“Hinata… I, uh, wrote something for you,” he said, his voice softer than usual, handing her the letter.
Hinata blinked, her heart skipping a beat as she gently took the letter from his hands. She unfolded it carefully, her fingers trembling slightly. As her eyes skimmed the words, her breath caught. Naruto had poured his heart onto the page—every line full of raw emotion, detailing how much she meant to him, how her presence had given him strength in ways he never expected.
Tears filled her eyes as she clutched the letter to her chest, her voice barely a whisper. "Naruto-kun... this... it's beautiful."
Naruto scratched the back of his head nervously, glancing away. "I just wanted you to know how much you mean to me. I’m not great with words, but… you deserve to hear it."
Without hesitation, Hinata stepped forward and wrapped her arms around him, her tears falling silently as she buried her face in his chest. “You’ve already given me more than I could ever ask for," she whispered, her heart overflowing with love. Naruto hugged her back tightly, his arms wrapping around her as if trying to shield her from the world, holding her with a tenderness that spoke all the words he couldn’t say.
“Well,” he said after a while, breaking the moment “there’s just one more thing left: dinner! I’ve been practicing for this, so sit tight. I’ll whip up something real quick.”
Hinata blinked in surprise, watching as Naruto practically dashed into the kitchen with newfound confidence. She chuckled to herself, feeling a little flutter of excitement at the thought of Naruto cooking for her. She had always admired how much he had grown and how much effort he put into everything he did. If anyone could pull off a surprise dinner, it was Naruto.
She made herself comfortable on the couch, wrapping one of the soft blankets around her shoulders and listening to the sounds of Naruto bustling in the kitchen. Pots clanked, water boiled, and the occasional muttering from Naruto about measurements or timing could be heard. Hinata couldn’t help but smile as she imagined him focusing so intently on making the perfect meal.
But then, things started to take a turn.
The pleasant sounds from the kitchen began to grow a little chaotic—there was a loud clang, followed by Naruto’s panicked voice: “Uh… that’s not supposed to happen!”
Hinata’s eyes widened, and she sat up, her curiosity piqued. A few moments later, a faint smell of burning reached her, and Naruto’s frantic attempts to salvage whatever he was cooking became more audible. There was the sound of something sizzling—too much—and a yelp from Naruto.
“Hinata!” Naruto called from the kitchen, his voice full of nervous laughter. “Uh, you might want to… stay over there for a bit. I got this under control, I promise!”
But Hinata couldn’t help herself. She stood and quietly walked toward the kitchen, peeking in to see what was happening. Her eyes widened at the scene before her: Naruto was standing by the stove, holding a spatula in one hand and a frying pan in the other, looking sheepish and a bit frantic. Smoke was rising from the pan, and whatever he had been cooking was now a charred mess.
Naruto’s face turned a deep shade of red when he noticed Hinata watching. “I… I kinda burned it,” he admitted with a nervous chuckle, scratching the back of his head. “I guess cooking is a little harder than I thought…”
Hinata stared at him for a moment before bursting into soft laughter. The sight of Naruto, the fearless hero of the Fourth Great Ninja War, standing in the kitchen looking so flustered over a simple meal, was too much. Usually, she was the one who got nervous and flustered, but seeing Naruto like this was unexpectedly endearing—and funny.
“N-Naruto-kun…” Hinata giggled, covering her mouth with her hand, “It’s okay. You don’t have to do everything.”
Naruto grinned sheepishly, clearly relieved that she wasn’t upset. “Sorry, Hinata. I just wanted to make something nice for you.”
She stepped closer, placing a hand gently on his arm. “You’ve already done so much. This has been one of the best days I’ve had in a long time, and that’s all thanks to you.” Her smile was warm and full of affection as she looked up at him. “Why don’t I take over? I’ll make something quick, and we can still enjoy the evening together.”
Naruto sighed in relief, nodding gratefully. “Yeah, I think that’s a good idea. Thanks, Hinata.”
Within minutes, Hinata had taken over in the kitchen, and soon the smell of something delicious wafted through the air, replacing the burned aroma from earlier. Naruto watched her from the side, feeling both impressed and a little sheepish. He was used to being the one taking charge, but seeing Hinata so confident and capable in the kitchen made his heart swell with admiration for her.
“Man, you’re amazing,” Naruto muttered under his breath, not even realizing he had said it out loud.
Hinata glanced over at him, her cheeks turning a soft pink, but she smiled and kept cooking. “I’m just glad I can help, Naruto-kun.”
Before long, the two of them were sitting at the table, enjoying the simple but delicious meal Hinata had prepared. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable, the soft glow of the candles making everything feel intimate and cozy. Naruto couldn’t stop smiling at how effortlessly Hinata had turned a near disaster into something special.
As they finished dinner and settled onto the couch, wrapped up in blankets with the soft hum of the night around them, their conversation shifted from playful banter to something quieter, more intimate. They talked about random things at first—memories from their academy days, funny stories from past missions—but as the night wore on, the mood slowly changed.
Naruto looked over at Hinata, his gaze lingering on her for a moment longer than usual. Her face was soft in the candlelight, her lavender eyes reflecting the warmth of the room, and something stirred inside him. The connection between them felt stronger than ever—unspoken, yet so clearly understood. He reached out, brushing a stray lock of hair from her face, his fingers lingering on her cheek for just a moment longer than usual.
Hinata’s breath hitched at the gentle touch, her heart racing. She turned to look at him, her eyes meeting his, and in that instant, everything around them seemed to fade away. There was only the two of them, the quiet, cozy space they had created together, and the warmth that filled the air between them.
“Naruto-kun…” she whispered, her voice soft, almost hesitant.
Naruto didn’t say anything in return. He simply leaned in, closing the distance between them slowly, giving her all the time she needed. His eyes were full of affection, and as their lips met, the world seemed to stand still. The kiss was slow, unhurried, filled with a deep, quiet passion that spoke of all the feelings they had shared but hadn’t yet put into words. It wasn’t about rushing—it was about savoring the moment, about showing each other the depth of their love and admiration.
As the snow continued to fall softly outside, Naruto and Hinata melted into each other, their hearts beating in time with the quiet rhythm of the night. They had found their perfect moment, wrapped in warmth, love, and the quiet understanding that they were exactly where they were meant to be.
Naruto gently pulled back, his forehead resting against Hinata’s as they both took a moment to catch their breath. His blue eyes softened as they gazed into hers, which shimmered like the snowy landscape outside. The warmth between them made the cold world beyond the walls feel like a distant memory, something they could escape together.
"Hinata…" Naruto began softly, his voice hushed and intimate. "I’m not the best with words, but I hope you know how much you mean to me. Days like this… being with you… it just feels right. Like… like everything’s finally in place."
Hinata’s heart fluttered as she listened, her own emotions rising to the surface. She had always admired Naruto’s bravery and strength, but it was moments like these, when he let his guard down and spoke so openly, that reminded her how deeply she loved him. She smiled, her hands gently resting on his chest as she spoke.
“Thank you, Naruto-kun. This has been the best birthday I could’ve asked for. Not because of the gifts or the plans… but because of you.” Her voice trembled slightly with emotion, and she leaned in again, pressing a soft kiss to his lips.
They settled into each other’s embrace, the warmth of their bodies and the flickering candlelight creating a serene, peaceful atmosphere. The snow outside continued to fall, but inside Naruto’s apartment, everything was still, quiet, and perfect. They remained there for what felt like hours, wrapped in blankets and each other, speaking softly about everything and nothing at all.
Naruto chuckled softly at one point, looking down at Hinata who was now resting her head on his shoulder. "Guess I made a bit of a mess with dinner, huh?" he said, grinning sheepishly.
Hinata giggled, her soft laughter filling the room. "It was an adventure, Naruto-kun. But really, I wouldn’t have had it any other way."
Naruto smiled down at her, feeling that familiar surge of affection that always seemed to swell in her presence. He tightened his arm around her and rested his head against hers, feeling the calm contentment that came from knowing they had each other.
As the night grew deeper and the world outside continued its silent snowfall, Naruto and Hinata stayed wrapped in their little world of warmth, love, and quiet understanding. In that moment, nothing else mattered. It was just them—two souls who had been through so much, finding peace and joy in the simple act of being together.
And as the snow gently blanketed Konoha in a soft, pure white, they knew that whatever the future held, they would face it side by side—just as they always had, and just as they always would.
