Work Text:
“Am I happy?”
It was a question Nile had been asking herself for the last few years. She had a purpose, she had a cause to focus on, but was she happy? That was the million dollar question.
She looked out the window of the small apartment she had rented upon arriving in Tokyo, after the team had decided to take a break and she made the decision to go back to school. The University of Tokyo had one of the best art history programs in the world, so she’d naturally reached for it. The courses alone gave her a good break from the violence she’d seen so often, both in her time in the Marines as well as with the team.
She was proud of her growing language skills, and she was excelling at her classes, but there were moments that she just… missed everyone. So much.
In the five or so years since she’d become immortal, she’d rarely gone a few days without seeing one of the others. Only when a mission required it did the time seem to stretch longer. But now? It had been nearly four months. Sure, there were some video calls with Joe and Nicky, and a weekly separate check in with Copley and Andy, but it just wasn’t the same.
Was she happy?
“I just don’t know.”
Loneliness was the worst.
