A Little Closer

Summary:

What really happened after that photoshoot?

Lee Dong Wook turned around and sidled in close behind Gong Yoo, getting much closer than would be comfortable even among friends. He smirked a little when he felt Gong Yoo tense, his antics eliciting laughter among the crew. Already gleefully imagining that irritated set of Gong Yoo’s mouth.

But unexpectedly, Gong Yoo turned around and then their faces were inches apart.

Lee Dong Wook’s breath stuttered in his chest.

Notes:

Just a little thing.

Chapter Text

Lee Dong Wook resisted the urge to blink as the cameras flashed, maintaining an ardent yet sensual stare as he adjusted the casual, possessive hold he had around Yoo In Na’s waist. Risqué, but not too much, as he had been instructed. Wouldn’t do to scandalise the general public.

Yoo In Na gazed coquettishly out from underneath her lashes, her head tilted just so. The very picture of a confident self-assured woman who had her man wrapped securely around her finger. Her hand rested delicately against his shoulder.

A couple more camera flashes and the photographer lowered his camera, checking through the photos, a pleased expression on his face.

“Well done, I think we’ve got it!” He flashed a cheerful thumbs up their way before ambling over to the computer in the back as everyone bustled around preparing for the next shoot.

Lee Dong Wook sighed and relaxed, respectfully stepping back from Yoo In Na. She shot him a wry smile and stretched out her neck.

“I was getting a crick in my neck from having to look up at you!” She said playfully.

“Ah, I can’t help being so tall and handsome.” He said apologetically, lowering his head.

He strategically stepped out of the way of the swat he knew was coming. Yoo In Na missed and put her hands on her hips, incredulous.

“Incorrigible, who said anything about being handsome.” She laughed.

“But I am.” He smiled winningly.

Yoo In Na rolled her eyes and waved him away, not gracing that with a response, attention diverted as her manager called her over.

Lee Dong Wook glanced around and his gaze was unconsciously drawn to Gong Yoo where he seemed in comfortable conversation with Kim Go-Eun. They were finishing up the official Cast Photoshoots for Goblin and they were in the middle of taking the couple photos. Kim Go-Eun and Gong Yoo had already finished theirs.

He had deepened his friendship with Gong Yoo over the course of the months they had worked together. They were pretty attached at the hip most of the time these days, he was the first person he turned to for advice whether professional or personal. The first person he turned to for company. The crew used to joke that they never saw the one without the other. He was secretly glad for all the post shoot formalities that allowed them to see each other more often, even though he wouldn’t ever admit to missing him.

Gong Yoo caught him looking and smiled easily, eyes warm. He was wearing a sleek blue suit and it made him look sophisticated in a way Lee Dong Wook rarely ever saw him. Attractive too of course, but that was a given.

He had already taken a step towards him when he was stopped by the Photographer waving him back in place.

“Ah, we’re not done yet Dong Wook-Ssi, we’ve got another couple to photograph.” He said, a laughing note in his voice.

“Gong Yoo-Ssi, please come stand next to him.” He said, fiddling with the camera.

Lee Dong Wook glanced over at Gong Yoo who met his gaze with a raised eyebrow. Lee Dong Wook raised his eyebrows right back and shrugged. He was well aware of the impact that two attractive men acting together had on the viewership, the people loved to see them together and he had no problem indulging them.

Gong Yoo hauled himself up with an air of amused dejection and came to pose next to him back-to-back.

“I didn’t know we were a couple.” He grumbled.

“Well, I did. Get with the times, Ahjussi, the women love this.” Lee Dong Wook spoke out of the corner of his mouth.

Gong Yoo huffed out a laugh but acquiesced.

Lee Dong Wook knew that Gong Yoo was probably a bit new to this type of fanservice, considering the hiatus he’d taken from acting. The entertainment industry had changed with the times and Gong Yoo got a bit blindsided with some of the emerging trends. Women were a lot more daring with what they liked these days. Lee Dong Wook bit back a smile remembering how he’d been reluctant to even hold his hand that one time.

They cycled through a few more rote poses before Lee Dong Wook got it in his head to be somewhat mischievous.

Gong Yoo’s eyes were deep and dark and they stared directly into his soul. They searched his eyes with lazy animal grace. His mouth quirked up in a half smile. Like a challenge accepted.

Panic coursed through his body and it was all he could do to stay in place. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go, he’d expected him to shove him off with a grumble and that that’d be that. Gong Yoo didn’t do things like this.

His panic increased when Gong Yoo’s gaze shifted downwards, eyes going half lidded and smoky, down, down, down, until he reached his lips. That same half smile curling his mouth.

Gong Yoo exhaled and he could feel that breath against the thin skin of his lips.

Lee Dong Wook felt like his heart would stop beating.

Gong Yoo started leaning in- and that was it. Lee Dong Wook broke away and leaned back. Turning his head away to laugh at the camera in order to hide the way his heart was pounding. He had never been more thankful for the makeup he was wearing for surely, he would be red up to his ears by now.

He glanced over just in time to see Gong Yoo turn around, a self-deprecating little smile on his lips, seeming to look utterly unphased at the way he had nearly given him a goddamn heart attack.

Lee Dong Wook barely heard the ensuing laughter resulting from their little show, too busy trying not to feel like his lips had been branded by the ghost of that almost kiss.

Maybe he should just be thankful that his knees hadn’t buckled instead. That would have been really embarrassing.
