Found by an undead couple as a small infant, they decided to adopt the child. They were raised in a joint effort by the necromancers of the Watch and the undead. For the first 9 years of their life they always favored the upper crypts since it was easiest to see the stars and night sky from those levels. Always running around with the undead and playing with anyone they could find, after a run in with an errant spirit that harmed one of their undead friends they decided to begin learning to join the Mortalitasi. It was around age 12 when they found out they were trans and thus they had been given a first name by their adoptive parents, Elias.
By age 13 he was already a fully fledged member of the Mortalitasi doing small tasks and studying when he could. That was when he met another elf by the name of Albrecht, who was living with a Dalish clan until recently and decided to come back home to Nevarra. With Elias being top of his class among the order and Albrecht full of dalish knowledge not known to the professors of Nevarra the two became fast friends and taught each other, Elias helping Albrecht with his necromantic studies and Albrecht helping Elias with the Dalish histories and language. He always waited for Albrecht when he was off in some of Professor Volkarins classes, he wasn't old enough to sit in so he waited. When it was time for Elias' classes Albrecht would sit in to witness Elias' mage abilities, Albrecht not being a mage himself always found mages interesting, even idolizing them. Being a warrior does have its perks, the two taught each other some tricks they could use in battle, Albrecht teaching close combat and Elias showing different ways to use the fade without being a mage, even if it wasn't the full power of a mage.
At age 15 Elias was already a powerful mage, even tasked with helping out in the lower crypts. Albrecht could not always follow him down where he was needed so he was usually on his own. Unfortunately while down doing his duties he came across a massive anomaly that was threatening one of the undead occupants, he tried stopping it but sadly he wasn't strong enough. The beast ripped through the spirit who had jumped in front of Elias to protect him, and shredded his eye. The pain and guilt of causing the demise of that spirit caused him to lose control and magic surged out of him. This caused scars to form on his body. He passed out and slept for a week after he'd returned. After the incident he became incredibly protective over the undead and spirits in the necropolis, protecting them even at the cost of his own health and wellbeing. Word spreads quickly among the spirits in the necropolis, soon everyone, even the Mournwatch had heard about the young mage who stopped the massive anomaly from rampaging and reaching the upper crypts. With this knowledge spreading, the higher ranking mages of the Mournwatch invited Elias to join their ranks, at age 16 he was the youngest member among the elite order. Not soon after Albrecht had joined their ranks and the two were back to their old shenanigans. By age 17 he had nothing left to learn from the professors so he became a fully fledged Watcher, tasked with keeping everyone safe. Throughout his journey he constantly went back home to visit his parents and tell them of everything that was happening, and they couldn't be more proud of him.
At age 22 him and Albrecht had basically become family and that's how it stayed, always having each other's backs, ups and downs, and he would happily give his life for his family. Years later something began stirring in the crypts, old feuding nobles taking their anger to the grave and beyond. Causing problems and death for everyone caught in it's wake. Seeing the destruction this civil war would cause and the lives it would cost, both Elias and Albrecht made the choice to stop it before it got any worse. Each took the head of one of the nobles, the quicker it was done the sooner things could go back to normal. While this saved countless lives, some Watchers worried that they had angered and offended some of the orders aristocratic patrons so the two were encouraged to travel for a while while things calmed down. He visited the crypt of his undead adoptive parents once more before leaving to say farewell, as a surprise they imparted with him a small part of each of their spirits to take with him on his journeys. With their final wish of having and raising a child being fulfilled they both passed on to rest. The bits of spirit left behind melded and latched onto his own soul, making him part spirit, this gift did not give him any abilities other than the warmth of eternal parental love to help him when nights got hard.
As they were leaving a few of the Watchers kept them company for the walk to the surface, among them was a woman with dark hair pulled and tied back, with long flowing robes. A cloaked and hooded spirit with gold adorned gauntlets, and a silver haired older gentlemen adorned with golden jewelry. As they waved goodbye to start their journey the older man caught Elias' attention, as he locked eyes with him, the older Watcher had a face full of sympathy, sadness, and.. regret? guilt? He couldn't pinpoint which. Something about the older man felt familiar somehow. The three of them stayed until the duo were out of sight, hopefully they would all see each other again soon.
