Work Text:
It was in the very early hours of the day when Dracula came home.
He was about to walk downstairs when he noticed some light in the living-room.
He walked towards it, but stopped at the door ... when he noticed Peter, sitting on the couch, holding a cigarette in his hand – and staring into space.
Dracula hesitated, but then he carefully and quietly as possible knocked on the door frame.
Peter jumped anyway.
"I'm sorry." Dracula said quietly, entering the room, slowing walking towards Peter: "I didn't want to scare you."
"But what are you doing here in the middle of the night?"
"I couldn't sleep."
Hmm slipped from Dracula's lips.
"Anything I can do?" he asked then.
Peter shook his head.
"Well, I hope you'll able to sleep soon."
Peter nodded.
Dracula left the room, but not without turning around to Peter again ... who seemed lost somehow – reaching out for the whiskey glass in front of him, taking a big sip.
It was only a couple of minutes later, and Peter hadn't moved at all – when Dracula returned.
He walked up to him, sat down next to him then, and opened the candy jar he had brought along.
"Here." he said, offering it to him: "Have one."
"And then tell me what's bothering you."
Peter turned his head towards Dracula, visible surprised.
He nodded.
Hesitantly Peter took a lollipop from the jar, so did it Dracula – holding it with his mouth then to close the jar, putting it on the table afterwards.
"You...eat lollipops?" Peter asked, his voice matching the look on his face.
"Sure." Dracula said, nodding – unwrapped it, and put the lollipop in his mouth, sucking on it pleasurably.
Peter looked at him.
"Can you get cavities?"
"What?" Dracula asked, visible and audible surprised.
"I never thought about it before."
"No, I can't." Dracula said then.
"My fangs aren't as sensitive as human teeth."
"Alright." Dracula said then, putting his arm around Peter – leaned back and took Peter with him.
"What is going on?"
"Nothing."
"Right. That's why you sit here in the middle of the night, looking lonely and lost."
Dracula added a matching Uh-Uh sound of disbelieve to his words.
"I'm maybe not as good with words as Lorrimer. Or huggable as Edgar."
"But I'm here for you anyway."
"And if you don't want to talk, okay...we can just sit here."
Peter sighed.
"I once was in love with the most wonderful guy ever." he eventually said: "And when he left me, I was heartbroken."
"It took me decades to get over it."
"Then I met another wonderful man, and my life turned upside down."
"But for the best."
"And when everything seems to be just well...the guy from my past shows up."
"And instead of hate and anger, there's joy and happiness."
"Like nothing ever happened."
"He's still the way he was back then...charming, funny, handsome."
"I obviously never stopped loving him, just hid those feelings."
"And now they're all coming back at once."
"And I dunno what to do."
Dracula waited for a moment, being sure that Peter had finished.
"But it's wonderful that you and Edgar bond with each other again !?"
"It would have been years ago. But now?"
"When there's Lorri. I love him."
"I know you do." Dracula said calm and serene.
"And Lorrimer loves you."
Peter didn't react.
Dracula turned his head, looking at Peter then.
"He won't be jealous...if you're afraid of that."
Peter looked at Dracula, visible concerned.
He shook his head.
"And I'm not jealous about you two either."
Dracula reached out for Peter's hand.
"I know it's strange." he said then.
"But what's not strange in this house? I mean, we're not the typically roomies !? And yet...it's working."
"And if we not only share a place to live, but also companionship, yet love..." Dracula held Peter's hand tight: "Then you should not be worried, but enjoy it."
Peter looked at Dracula. His face was soft, matching his voice, his eyes looking back at him, sparkling a little.
Eventually Peter moved forward, kissing Dracula on the cheek – quickly, but yet willing.
"Thank you." he said afterwards.
Dracula nodded, and smiled at him.
The two stayed on the couch for another moment, before Peter went upstairs and Dracula downstairs, finally getting their needed sleep.
