Work Text:

“I wonder if they’ve got any good deals around here for my new place…”

Sigma’s lavender gaze flits over the crowded shelves of the local thrift store. You couldn’t help but tag along with her, curious about the store and Sigma’s taste. Her new living situation came quite bare and she had been curious about something called ‘second-hand stores’.

“So all of these items are things other people have thrown away?” Sigma mused as she took a turn toward an aisle with yellowing tile. A plush, stained doll caught her eye and she smiled sadly. “I know the feeling.”

She stays close to you, looking over your head around the multitude of products: kitchenware, children’s toys, silverware, even an old gumball machine. Nothing seems to tickle her fancy as you walk with her, though her eyes are alight with childlike wonder.

“Being treated like trash isn’t something I’d wish on anyone,” Sigma mutters, her eyes scanning you softly. “Especially not you.”

Sigma continues forward with you in-tow, though she finds herself quickly enraptured by the whimsey of the aisle you two find yourselves in now.

“Why do people throw out such perfectly good things?” She seems almost agitated at the idea, combing through the misshapen shelves. Her hands find a crocheted blanket, her fingers combing over it. “I wonder if it was made with love…”

You find yourself enraptured with Sigma’s newfound curiosity, watching her dart from right-to-left and left-to-right as if she didn’t want to miss a single item. Finally, she slowed to a halt before a globe of glass, a little cottage depicted inside of it.

“What’s this…?” Sigma marveled, touching it cautiously. “Oh, they call these ‘snow globes,’ huh? This one’s… cute.”

Though her tone said far more than that as she gently took in every detail of its base and the snowy home it depicts.

“This is what having a home looks like… being able to look at it from afar and just… know.”

She breathes before smiling softly and turning back to you, gently depositing the globe into your hands:

“This is for you. I think I know what I want from this life now.”

Notes:

Hi Eden! You were one of my first-ever mutuals on bsdtwt (back on my old account) and you really introduced me to so many wonderful people. I really appreciate your kindness because it has made me stay. In fact, your kindness was actually what made me start writing again for fandoms. Taking that leap has really helped me beyond words and it shocks me that you trust me so much with your sillies. I always enjoy talking to you, truly. And sending you gorgeous arts of your wife. I remembered that you said you loved my Sigma headcanon about collecting snow globes, so I felt like this was the way. I also collect snow globes and this is one of the avemues of finding the best hiddem gems.

You were the first person who got me a birthday gift not out of obligation in a very long time... I keep that poem very close to my heart. I wanted to return the favor, even a little bit.

I realized I had the ability to make your wife (Sigma) speak directly to you. I hope she was able to bring you some peace. Thank you for being my friend... and my first friend in a very long time.
