Wraith tries to let the steady him of the dropship's engines calm her as it flies them back to E District. But it wasn't enough to distract her from being bombarded by the voices, berating her for how the match had gone. They won, but it had been close and she would've been in serious trouble if it weren't for Mirage saving her from Caustic's traps. It had been sloppy and risky, and the voices made damn sure she knew it.
She runs at her temples, she wished they would just shut up and leave her be.
Mirage walks over to her with a hand pressed to his side and a slight limp. He drops into the bench seat beside her and leans back against the wall half laying, half sitting.
He lets out a sigh and his breath catches. He presses his hand tighter to his side.
She feels a pang of guilt at his pain.
Your fault. One of the voices says.
"You doing okay?" She asks.
He nods and smiles at her.
"Yeah I'll be fine once these meds kick in. They always make me sleepy though."
She nods but otherwise doesn't respond.
He tries to adjust himself into a more comfortable position, and winces at the pain it causes him.
She thinks for a moment before looking at him.
"Lay here. She tells him, patting her leg.
The look he gives her is almost comical, like a surprised puppy. It was adorable she decides.
" Really? " he asks hopefully.
She nods slightly and he grins. "Okay."
He then moves slowly and carefully to avoid hurting himself farther as he eases himself lower until he's laying on his back, with his head in her lap. He closes his eyes and sighs in relief.
"Better?"
He gazed up at her. "Much."
She gives him a small smile. "Good."
She then moves her hand up to his chest and starts fingering his scarf absentmindedly while she thinks. She felt she should say something, After what he did for her.
"Elliot?"
" Hmm? " he responds, sounding a bit sleepy.
"Thank you.... For earlier with Caustic." She whispers quietly enough so that he's the only one who can hear.
He covers her hand with his own and smiles.
"Hey no problem, no thanks needed." He says genuinely .
She looks off at nothing in particular. Guilt still clawing at her.
He gives her hand a gentle squeeze to get her attention. She looks down at him.
"Your blaming yourself for me getting hurt aren't you?"
She sighs and let's her head fall.
That was all the answer he needed. He lifts her hand and brings it up to kiss her palm softly.
"Please don't do that to yourself Ray." He smiles.
" Besides, that was my own fault, not yours. "
She looks into his warm brown eyes and wants so badly to believe him.
He gazed into her eyes with such understanding.
"The voices?"
She sighs again. "Always."
He frowns slightly. "Hmm..." He brings his hand up and taps her forehead lightly with his finger.
" hey guys, be quiet and leave my Ray alone okay? "
She smiles at him. She could sense annoyance from some of the other Wraiths, but they did quiet down. She sighs in relief.
"Thanks."
He grins, stroking the side of her face lovingly.
"Anytime." He says then yawns.
She smiles down at him fondly and give his hand a squeeze. "Get some rest."
He yawns again. "M'kay." He let's his eyes fall shut and within minutes he starts snoring softly.
He still held her left hand hostage so with the other she runs her fingers through his chocolate curls, watching in mild fascination as they curl around her fingers.
"Your being watched." One of the voices comments.
She looks up to see Rampart watching her with a raised eyebrow and a huge grin plastered to her face.
Wraith feels her cheeks go warm.
"Shut up." She mouths to her.
"Not a chance mate."
Wraith turns her attention back to the sleeping trickster and continues to twirl her curls around her fingers.
It was the most relaxed she had been all day. The voices were only a dull murmuring in the background, and she knew they would be landing in a while. So for the time being, she was content just sitting there in silence with him at her side.
