Essie was always so cheery. Martin felt lucky to have such a peppy member of his family be so close to him.
He'd always had this issue with his brain where, no matter how well things were going, sometimes his brain would just make him feel down and empty for no reason.
He tried not to let it take control or anything like that but sometimes it was just a bit too hard to ignore.
Such as now.
It was okay, though, because Essie kept him company and, even though her antics didn't bring him the whimsy it usually did, he appreciated it nonetheless.
At least he wasn't alone.
