"This painting is a landscape, not a portrait," Peem announced from behind his canvas. Phum pretended not to hear his boyfriend as he bounced his soccer ball from knee to foot to knee, directly blocking Peem's view of the park. "Stop blocking my subject.”
“Maybe your painting needs a handsome focal point,” Phum said while bouncing the ball higher up to start bouncing it from the crown of his head. “What could be more handsome than your boyfriend?”
"What boyfriend?" Peem said as he mixed paint on his pallet. "I only see an idiot in front of me."
“Maybe you need glasses,” Phum shot back as he finally caught the soccer ball. “Your boyfriend was in the top percentile for exams this last semester.”
"I wonder how that was possible." Peem took a measure of something using the end of his paint brush. "He's an awful listener."
Phum finally stepped in closer, standing just behind Peem's canvas, but not touching it. "I hear he listens quite well when there's incentive."
"The incentive is not pissing me off. My boyfriend should know what happens when he does that." Peem's eyes darted down to Phum's crotch. "Or does he need a reminder?"
"Maybe my boyfriend needs a reminder that he's lucky he didn't break anything. He certainly enjoys it intact now." Peem's brush creaked in a dangerous way and Phum backed off unconsciously. "But my boyfriend has been ignoring me for the better part of two hours. Can I ask him to take a short walk with me to stretch his legs?”
Peem rolled his eyes, but cleaned his brush anyway. “When I told you I would be painting in the park all day today, it wasn't an invitation.”
"You wouldn't tell me if you didn't want me to come." Phum said as he held Peem's bag to help put away his supplies. "Besides, you've just been staring at your painting blankly for the last thirty minutes . I think you're done for now."
"As if you know anything," Peem said as he finally lifted his canvas off his easel. Phum smiled to himself, noticing a figure, freshly painted in the middle of the landscape, knee up in motion with a white ball above his head. "But whatever, let's walk and then you're buying dinner."
"Yes, yes," Phum said as he took Peem's towel and helped wipe paint from his face and hands. "Naturally I should for inviting myself out with you." Phum then took a moment to sniff kiss Peem's cleaned cheek. "And that's payment from you for ignoring me for two hours." Peem moved to flick Phum's ear, but Phum quickly darted away with Peem's paints and stool towards his car, causing the other boy to chase after him. "No refunds!" Phum shouted behind himself .
