Chapter Text

Melody had a feeling she wasn’t going to make it.

She had lost hope the moment she got sick enough to end up in the hospital. She had kept pushing it off and saying that she was fine, but maybe if she had gone in earlier this wouldn’t have happened. Now she was paying the price. A price she didn’t deserve, of course. Nobody deserves to die at 17 years old.

Surprisingly, Melody was pretty accepting of this. She didn’t have any big plans for the future that she would miss out on. She didn’t have many friends and family left for her to miss. She felt bad for the mourning she would give those who were left, however. She constantly reassured them that things will turn out okay.

Deep down, she was probably terrified. She could go to sleep and not wake up ever again.

The worst part of it all, she felt like she wasted her life. She didn’t do enough to make people proud. She didn’t do anything that made a difference. Sure, she was still a teenager, but she had her whole life to do something, and she didn’t. She only got one opportunity, and she used it.

This was it. No second chances.

“How would you like to have a second chance?”

Melody had woken up in a dark void. She should’ve been panicking, but she felt oddly…calm?

“What is this? Who are you?” Melody asked.

“That’s not important right now. Answer the question.”

“Of course I would like a second chance! Who wouldn’t?” Melody said.

“Well, I can’t put you back for free, so let’s make a deal. I’ve been bored out of my mind for years. If you can entertain me, I’d say that earns you your life back”

“What do you mean…..entertain?” Melody slowly started to piece it together.

“Oh, you know, there isn’t much to entertain with here, sooo…..”

“……I’m not about to be isekai’d, am I?”

“Bingo.”

“Dammit.”

“Don’t be upset! I’ve already chosen a place for you to go. I promise, you’ll love it. Just go back to sleep and you’ll be there.”

It’s not like Melody had a choice, so she closed her eyes and surprisingly found herself drifting off in minutes.

The person behind the voice smiled as they prepared Melody’s journey.

“This is going to be fun.”

Melody woke up again, this time not in an endless void but instead in an alleyway. Looking around, the buildings were bright and colorful. She wasn’t in hospital clothes anymore, and instead had a large yellow sweater that hung off her shoulders, black pants, and brown shoes.

Okay, so the clothes weren’t hers, but they were normal clothes. What about her hair?

Melody reached up to touch her hair and found….nothing. She felt around her head as if the hair had just moved over, and instead her hand hit something hard and pointy protruding out the front of her head.

Crap. Is there a mirror anywhere? Looking around, the closest thing she could find was a puddle of water. It was murky, but clear enough to see what she was looking at.

Oh. Oh, no.

This was just her phucking luck.

Notes:

Again I’ll say this character is an oc and not actually myself. I’m not 17 and my name is not Melody. I am also not dying in a hospital. Sorry to disappoint.
