Work Text:
Katsuki was sitting crisscrossed in front of his full-length mirror, trying to get his eyeliner right. The left eye was perfect, but now he needed to match the other one. Tonight was Mina’s Halloween party, and she had been pestering everyone about it for the past two months. That’s why Katsuki wanted to look good. He had taken so long to find the perfect costume and plan out the perfect makeup, and he wanted to be the best dressed at this party. He knew his friends would come up with funnier and more eccentric ideas than his, so he had to nail the execution.
He had thought about it for a while—meaning every day for an entire week—and had chosen to go as a vampire. A classic but easy costume to recreate.
He felt victorious when he finally managed to match both eyeliner wings perfectly. He stood up and started to put his outfit on. He was already wearing a white dress shirt with balloon sleeves tucked into wide black dress pants; all that was missing were the accessories. He looked through his closet and found the red corset he had bought for the occasion. He had watched loads of tutorials and was able to put it on easily.
At first, he wasn’t sure he was going to wear it, but after trying it on for the first time, he knew the corset would make the difference. He liked how it defined his waist and the pop of color it brought to the outfit. He walked around his room to retrieve his rings; he was used to wearing them outside of work, and he thought they went well with the theme. He also bought some fake teeth but would put them on later. Finally, he draped a black cape around his shoulder. Katsuki stood in front of his mirror, took himself in, and smiled.
He looked good, and he couldn’t wait to see his friends’ reactions. He knew a lot of them weren’t expecting him to come dressed up or even come at all, but what they forgot was that Katsuki’s competitive personality spread to everything. If people didn’t expect him to do something, or expected him to do it poorly, he needed to prove them wrong. A quick look at the chunky heeled red boots he bought on a whim the week before, waiting for him in the corner of his room, was a perfect example.
Katsuki sighed and looked at the time; he still had thirty minutes before he needed to leave and be on time. Izuku was supposed to be back home already, and Katsuki assumed his boyfriend would need some time to get ready unless he got changed at the agency. He was still pacing around the room when he heard keys jingle and the sound of a door opening. He quickly walked to the entrance, ready to ask Izuku to hurry up so they could arrive on time.
“Hey.”
“Hi, Kacchan!”
Izuku was still busy taking off his shoes and hadn’t given Katsuki a proper look. When he did, however, his mouth opened wide, and he let out a little gasp. Katsuki smirked, happy he got the expected reaction.
“Wow, Kacchan! You look so nice! Wait, why are you dressed up? Are you going somewhere?”
Katsuki’s brows creased in confusion. “What do you mean? It’s Mina’s Halloween party. We have to leave soon, so you should hurry up and get changed too.”
Izuku’s face paled. “Oh, right! Mina! Halloween! Totally! I’ll go get changed!”
“Izuku?”
“Yes?”
“You forgot, didn’t you?”
Izuku let out a nervous laugh. “Me? No, of course not! How could I?”
Katsuki squinted his eyes. “So you have a costume and everything?”
“Of course I do!”
“Okay, I’ll be waiting for you then. But you need to hurry.”
“Okay, I’ll be right back!”
Katsuki watched as Izuku sprinted to their room, panic clear on his face. Katsuki was exasperated but couldn’t help the feeling of fondness that rose in his chest. Only Izuku could forget something that had been mentioned every week for the past two months. Katsuki also couldn’t wait to see what stupid costume Izuku would come up with to hide the fact he forgot about Mina’s party. He smiled when he heard rummaging followed by a few curses from behind the door. Izuku probably felt bad for forgetting; Katsuki mentally noted that he would need to remind him it wasn’t a big deal. Mina would be happy as long as he showed up.
A few more minutes went by before the door to their room opened with a loud bang. Katsuki lifted his head, and there stood Izuku, out of breath and hidden under… wait, were those their bedsheets?
“Izuku? What the fuck?”
“What?”
“Did you cut holes into our bedsheets?”
Even though he couldn’t see Izuku’s face, Katsuki knew the other was furiously blushing.
“No?”
“What do you mean, no? I have eyes, and what I see is you under our bedsheets that now have holes in them!”
“It’s not! It’s a ghost costume!”
Katsuki gave Izuku a pointed look. “Okay, I did cut holes in them. But I had to if I wanted to come dressed up to Mina’s party! I swear I’ll buy new ones tomorrow!”
Katsuki tried hard to suppress a laugh. “You look ridiculous.”
“Do I? I thought I looked pretty cute.”
Katsuki could hear the cheeky smile in Izuku’s voice.
“Cute? I don’t know about that. I can’t even see your face.”
“Oh, does Kacchan miss seeing my cute face?”
Katsuki felt his cheeks heat up. “And what if I did?”
“I’d say it’s too bad because I’m not taking this off. I worked too hard on it not to wear it out!”
“I’m sure you did.”
“Stop making fun of me! We can’t all look like annoyingly hot vampires!”
“If you took the time, you could’ve looked just as good as me. Okay, maybe not as good; I kind of outdid myself this year.”
Izuku let out a loud laugh. “You did. You look really good, Kacchan. And I feel bad for forgetting. I hope Mina won’t be too disappointed.”
“Don’t worry, nerd. She’ll be happy to see you. And you were right earlier.”
“About what?”
“You do look pretty cute.”
“Awwwww, Kacchan thinks I’m cute!”
“Stop joking around and put your shoes on; we’re going to be late.”
“Wait! Kiss me before we leave!”
Katsuki rolled his eyes and walked over to Izuku. The moment his lips met Izuku's covered mouth, he was reminded how much he loved this boy who managed to make cut-out bedsheets look cute.
