Work Text:
Clio was crouched on the sofa, listening to Ibis, while he explained the story of Christmas to Shadow. It was a story she had already heard (or rather, a lesson she had already witnessed), but she liked Ibis's stories, so she listened willingly.
The man, on the other hand, had the expression of someone who would have preferred to be anywhere else. He put on an interested face the few times the god looked up from his book, as if he needed it, and meanwhile he played with his coins.
"That was until electricity was discovered, leading to the invention of the christmas lights we see today.." Ibis was interrupted by Bastet.
The goddess jumped from the windowsill and, with a few quick leaps, crouched on Shadow's legs.
The man smiled at her, and raised his hand to caress her, but the movement was blocked by Ibis's clearing of his throat. "As I was saying..."
Bastet simply ignored him, and nuzzled the man's hand, inviting his caresses.
Clio covered her mouth with a hand when she saw Ibis's reproachful look towards the two.
Whatever he was about to say, he was interrupted by the arrival of Jacquel, who was returning from his walk.
"What are you talking about?" He asked, still in his animal form.
"I was illustrating the history of what many mistakenly consider to be an exclusively Christian holiday" he replied piqued, extremely annoyed by the third interruption in a row.
"Interesting.."
"We're at Edward H. Johnson," Clio said from the couch, sitting down and raising her arms to stretch her muscles.
"At least someone is paying attention," Ibis muttered, in a tone perfectly audible to everyone present.
Bastet curled up more comfortably on Shadow's legs, determined not to move from there.
Jacquel went to the sofa and jumped up, placing his head on the girl's legs, who smiled at him and began to pass her hands between her ears, on the soft black fur.
"Should I leave you two alone?" Ibis asked, looking as if he had no intention of moving until his story was over.
