Mockery of Humanity

Summary:

Lucifer has takeout for Dan

---

Day 31 of Spooktober
Prompt: Winter

Work Text:

The air outside feels heavy like winter's weight has descended early. Frosty winds howl through desolate streets, casting a gloomy shadow over the city. Amidst this backdrop, Lucifer appears at Dan's doorstep, bearing a steaming container of his favorite takeout. Dan's apartment complex looms, a dilapidated monolith sagging under neglect. The walls are cracked, the paint chipped, and the windows cloudy with grime. As Lucifer enters, the stench of stale cigarettes and decay wafts out, mingling with the food's savory aroma.

The other tenants eye Lucifer warily, their faces pinched with suspicion. They don't want him here. One tenant, a scrawny man with sunken eyes, steps forward, his voice hostile. "You're not welcome here, devil."

Lucifer's smile widens, his eyes glinting with amusement. With a subtle shift, his features change. His skin darkens, and his eyes burn with inner fire. Horns sprout from his forehead, curved and menacing. His presence expands, filling the hallway with malevolent power. The tenants recoil, terror etched on their faces. The scrawny man stumbles back, tripping over his feet. Lucifer's true form is a sight to behold — a fearsome, twisted mockery of humanity, a grotesque parody of beauty. The air seems to ripple around him as if reality warps in his presence.

Dan stands frozen, transfixed by the horror. He forgets to breathe, his mind reeling from Lucifer's transformation. Then, with a jolt, he remembers the takeout, still in Lucifer's hand. His stomach growls, reminding him of hunger. With a hesitant nod, Dan invites Lucifer in, the tension palpable. As they enter the apartment, the door creaks shut, enveloping them in foreboding. The night has just begun, and already, the shadows seem to close in.
