Sharing Is... Loving? (ON HOLD)

Summary:

Y/N never knew that asking Egon for a Twinkie would lead to something so romantic! Apologies if there are any misspellings/grammar issues.

Notes:

Please enjoy this thought I had while at the supermarket with my mum, lol!

Chapter 1: Kiss Kiss, Fall In Love!

Chapter Text

Being Janine's sister, you were quite welcomed, especially by Venkman, when you decided to join The Ghostbusters crew. Your big sister obviously warned you not to get involved, but Peter simply put his arm around your shoulder and told you not to listen to her, dragging you along as he introduced you to everyone else. Ray was sweet, you thought of him as your brother. Winston was really cool, you'd definitely get a coffee or beer with him. And Peter was... I mean, Peter was alright. But there was one Ghostbuster in particular that caught your eye; Egon.

I mean, he was so dreamy! Tall, lanky, nerdy with a deep voice, what more could you love? You and Janine would fawn over him together when you both had time. Though, you didn't ever tell him; why would you? It would be incredibly embarrassing to tell him! Luckily, it wouldn't be too long until you realize how much he liked you.

Jump to today, you're simply helping out the others. You don't really have a specific job here yet, so you're running all over the place, sorting out files for Janine or handing Winston stuff to patch up Ecto. At the end of the day, you're just as tired as everyone else is, so you collapse on the very old couch, sighing and listening to everyone else chat. Turning to Egon, you saw him grabbing a Twinkie from his stash of snacks. Perking up a bit, you thought, a Twinkie sounds good right about now! A fluffy, golden snack cake with whipped cream in the middle? Yes, please! Nervously speaking up, you asked, "Can I have one of your Twinkies, Egon?"

"Catch," he said with a nod, throwing you a cake. Catching it with a smile, you nod, opening the packet and taking a bite. "Thanks!" you said, not noticing how Peter and Ray's eyes followed the Twinkie through the air as you caught it. What you did notice, however, was how the two turned and looked at each other, jaws suspended in midair like a couple of cartoons. "Y'all good?" you asked, raising an eyebrow as you took another bite of your snack cake. "He never shares his food," Ray says, looking at Egon, who shrugged in response.

"It’s quite simple, really," He says. "My extensive research on Twinkies has led me to conclude that they are more enjoyable when shared, provided one shares them with someone they hold dear." After that last bit, he pauses, looking away with a slightly red face.

"Uh oh!" Peter chuckles, his usual smugness overtaking his surprise. "Woopsie-daisy! Looks like Egon just admitted his feelings!" he teased in a sing-songy voice. "Shut up," Egon muttered, adjusting his glasses. "I was simply saying that Y/N is my friend, which is why I decided to... share with her." "Are we not your friends? You're breaking my heart, Egon," he teases again. "Well-" Egon was about to speak before Janine interrupted him. "Leave the poor guy alone! He was only saying that he likes Y/N more than you guys," she winks. "Janine..." Egon sighs again. You blush, standing up and throwing away the snack cake packet before nodding and turning to leave. "Thanks for the cake, Egon. I'm going home, I need to feed my cat."

"Ah, I'll grab your coat!" Egon exclaims, walking towards you. Turning around, you meet his gaze with a smile. "Thanks," you say softly as he grabs your coat, motioning you to turn so he can put it on you. "It's nothing," he responds, his eyes darting to Peter and the others as he ties up your coat. When you grab your hat and turn around, you gently cup his face in your hands, kissing his cheek and admiring the way his face flushes crimson as your lips meet his skin. When you pull away, you giggle at the sight of his wide eyes as he touches where you kissed him, the ghost of a smile on his lips as he nods. "I'll see you tomorrow," he says as you leave, walking back to your apartment.

Chapter 2: The Day Before

Summary:

Egon informs Y/N that she'll be working as an official Ghostbuster the next day.

Notes:

Sorry, it took a while to get this out! I started writing the day after the first chapter was released.

Chapter Text

The next day when you come into work, you sit down at your and Janine's shared desk, keeping to yourself until you suddenly hear the door to the firehouse open. Peter is dragging along a very sleepy Ray, boxes of donuts in hand. "Donuts!" he exclaims, setting them down on the kitchen table. You smile as he brings some over for you and Janine, along with two cups of coffee. "Some fuel for you ladies," he says as he hands you two your breakfast. "Oh, you're very kind," Janine sighs, taking a sip of her coffee. You nod, responding "Thanks, Peter!" as you take a sip of yours.

As Egon steps out of the bedroom, Peter basically shoves a bag of donuts into his arms. Egon, blinking rapidly, simply responds "Why?" to which Peter shrugs. You chuckle at Egon's confused reaction, before your eyes focus on his slightly unbuttoned shirt, just barely showing his chest hair, and- ARGH! You're supposed to be professional, damnit!

Eh, whatever, you think to yourself. Nothing wrong with a bit of eye candy to get you through the day. Yum! But, anyways... rolling your eyes, you get back to working on... whatever it was you were doing... oh, yeah! Organizing everyone's schedule. Winston and Egon's schedules were well labeled, but Egon's was a tad hectic. Ray's could be cleaner, but it's easy to understand. It looked like Peter just scribbled whatever he thought of in the moment on his calendar. Hell, the only thing that was even legible was a day crossed off and labeled "Dana."

Gee, wonder what that's about...

Most of your days working for the Ghostbusters were incredibly boring, but it was fun when the guys were out on a bust and you and Janine were left alone to chat. The sounds around you seemed to become background noise as you worked on all the different poster design variants. The fans running to keep all the different machines cool, the sound of the guys bickering, Janine filing her nails and blowing bubblegum bubbles, it all because white noise as you typed. You didn't realize how much you had typed until you realized the clock had gone from 11:19 AM to 2:00. You blinked, looking around before you shrugged it off, moving on to typing out emails to all your other clients... by other clients, I mean like, three.

Zoning out again, you suddenly feel something firmly touch your head, looking up to see Peter, who has bonked your head with a folded-up magazine. "Hey," he says. "We're getting lunch. Wanna come with?" "Hm? Oh, I'm okay!" you said, shaking your head. "Egon's gonna be there," Peter said in response with a teasing tone. "I'll go get my coat," you respond.

Time flies yet again as you and the guys are getting lunch, listening to Ray's enthusiastic science talk and Peter's occasional sarcastic comments turns into background noise as you nommed away at your sandwich. However, as you were all walking down the street, you suddenly felt a poke at your shoulder.

Poke, poke.

"Hm?" you hummed curiously as you turned to see Egon, who was the one who poked you. "Y/N, we'll need your help tomorrow," he says, adjusting his glasses. "We've got a big bust tomorrow, and we need more than just four of us." A smile spread across your lips as you nodded eagerly. "Okay, I'd love to help you guys out!" you nodded, your excitement obvious. Incredibly obvious, judging by the soft smile that spread across Egon's face. "I can see that," he said. Realizing your overexcitement, you nervously giggled. "Y-yeah, uh... anyways... I'd be happy to help you guys. Though, I uh... I might need a bit of schooling on how to use the proton packs and whatnot."

"Oh, of course," Egon nods, adjusting his glasses. "I can teach you." You smiled softly, the idea of Egon teaching you how to be a proper Ghostbuster more than a little appealing. Sounds like a romcom, huh? Someone falling in love with their co-worker as they're teaching them their job. Sigh, how dreamy! You nodded, looking forward to tomorrow when you get to be a part of the team for the first time.

That will be the day... that you become a Ghostbuster!

Chapter 3: Ghost of Christmas Present

Notes:

My father helped me come up with the "squirty bit" joke for the proton pack wands. Figured since Peter said "Make em' hard!" during the Gozer fight scene, another innuendo would fit in just fine, lol. Sorry for this taking so long to get out!

Waking up for work the next morning was... not as exciting as you might think. Flopping out of bed, hair a mess and last night's makeup smudged under your eyes, you blinked rapidly, rubbing the sleep crust out of them. Suddenly, you gasped as you remembered you needed to get to work for today's bust.

Quick! Get up, shower, get dressed, put on makeup, do your hair, grab your stuff and a protein bar for the road. After all that, you run outside to catch the bus. The sound of people chatting loudly and the smell of cigarettes fills your senses as you nervously tap on the metal pole things... whatever the hell they're called. Finally, you arrive at work... and no one else is awake.

Well, damn.

Looks like you overestimated how long it would take to get ready. Shrugging it off, you made a fresh pot of coffee and went back to your desk, starting to get to work. Organizing files, printing out flyers, sending e-mails, playing Solitare, all very important things. After a few minutes and one zone-out session later, Winston gets up, stretching as he walks out of the bedroom. "Morning!" you called out to him. Turning to you with a sleepy smile, he nods. "Mornin'. Damn, up early, huh? And already made a pot of coffee... Egon's gonna love that." "Hm?" you hummed curiously. "Why?"

"The guy drinks so much of the stuff, I swear he's addicted," Winston chuckles. You giggle along with him as he pours himself a cup of coffee, aimlessly clicking away at your PC. "Are the others awake?" you asked. "Nope," Winston responded, right as Ray got up. "Good morning!" he said. Winston blinked before saying "Well, now someone is."

With a grin, you shook your head before turning to talk to Ray. "Hey, sleepy head, where's today's bust taking place?" "Oh, it's taking place at some big restauraunt at about 1:30," he responded, sipping some coffee. "1:30?!" you asked incredulously. "It's 9:41, go get dressed!" Ray almost choked on his coffee when you said the time. Winston, who was much calmer, grabbed him and dragged him into the bedroom to wake up the other guys. Ray came out wearing a Santa hat, dragging an equally festive Peter along with him.

"What's with the hats?" you asked. "Well, it's Christmas!" Ray said with the excitement of a golden retriever. "It's December 13th," groaned Peter, chugging some coffee. "For once, I agree with Peter," Egon said, walking into the room, looking more put together than anyone else, except for Winston. "Hi, Egon!" you said with a happy lilt, handing him a cup of coffee. He looked slightly puzzled at your joy to see him, but he took the cup of coffee gratefully, saying "Good morning, Y/N."

"So, what's the deal with today's bust?" Peter asked. "Well," you and Egon both said in sync. Meeting eye contact with a chuckle, Egon nodded for you to continue. Nodding in response, you continued your thought with "Today, according to the records, we have a lot of work to do at some prissy hotel downtown. The foyerman says he's got a ghost in the ballroom, and it's disrupting the preparation for a client's Christmas party." With a chuckle, Peter responded "Sounds like our first bust... alright, fine. You got the time?"

"9:50. I'll go get dressed too!" you said, running over to your locker and grabbing your suit, slipping it on as Janine came through the door. "Hi, sis!" you said. "Hey. Sorry I'm late, traffic was a nightmare," she responded, sipping her own coffee as she walked over to her desk. "Hey, I organized your stuff while you were out!" you said. "My hero," she responded with a soft giggle. "Today's the day for our first big bust in a while, Janine!" Ray said excitedly. "We'll be rich men!"

"Probably not," Egon muttered, hesistant to burst his bubble. "The richest people are usually the stingiest." Ray paused before saying "Well, we got 4,000 from the first bust we did, and that wasn't such a chore, was it? I'm sure nothing bad'll happen today!" Ray's enthusiasm was met with a collective sigh.

One totally-not-foreshadowing car ride later, you and the guys end up at the prissy hotel. Dolled up with tinsle and lights that must look stunning at night, people around you gave you a few judging looks as they inspected your worn out beige jumpsuits, proton packs and logos out and proud. Much to Peter's delight, your little group did get a few looks of admiration, and a few remarks of "Look, the Ghostbusters!"

Unfortunately, those remarks also led to people being concerned about the possibility of there being a ghost in their precious hotel. But, you ignored it as you headed into the hotel. With name-tags on show, you made a fierce looking crew! However, you were mentally shitting yourself with nervousness at going into a field of paranormal activity for the first time. The foyerman came to see you, nervously dabbing at his forehead with an expensive handkerchief. "Thank goodness you're here," he said. "Well, we always want to help," Peter responded, the condescending tone to his voice clear.

"W-well, I... well, nevermind it. The ballroom is over here! Please, try to be careful." With a nod, you all headed in, clicking on eachother's proton packs. All but Ray got armed and ready, since he pulled out his P.K.E. meter to scan his surroundings.

The ballroom was a maze of mirrors, abstract art, strange decor, and classical music quietly playing through the speakers, bouncing off the walls and fluttering about like a falling leaf, or something less poetic. You sighed at the realization you'd probably have to wander about quite a bit, and inflict a lot of property damage to catch the ghost... or ghosts.

As you moved along, cautiously trying not to knock over any expensive decorations, you noticed Ray's increasingly concerned expression. "Guys, g-guys, this- this doesn't look right!" he said, shaking his head and the P.K.E. meter slightly. Winston looked at the readings, his eyes widening. "Uh, Egon?" he asked, awkwardly pawing at Egon's shoulder. Egon looked at the readings, and even his more experienced eyes widened behind his glasses lenses. "This... this is huge, guys. It's getting 1,118." Peter's default smirk faded. "So you're telling me the damn thing's wrong?"

"I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm saying we have a lot of work to do," responded Egon. "Y/N, you go with Winston. Raymond, Peter, come with me." You were secretly rather disappointed you didn't get to go with Egon, but Winston was basically your big brother, so you didn't mind too much. Shrugging, you ran off in pursuit of him.

"So, you and Egon, huh?" he asked with a chuckle. "What do you mean?" you responded. Winston smirked in response, saying "Oh, come on. Did you really think I couldn't see the heart eyes you give him?" You opened your mouth to speak in response but quickly closed it in silent agreement. "Ha!" exclaimed Winston, pointing a teasing finger at you. "See, you can't get past-"

"Shh!" you said, noticing something fly behind Winston, gently rustling his jumpsuit. He shivers a bit. "Oh man... Ray's gonna have a field day when he hears about this. This is the perfect stereotypical ghost story," responded Winston, slightly unnerved. "Things just out of sight, sending shivers down your spine... here, let me switch on your pack." You nodded, turning around so he could switch on your proton pack and pull out the wand. "You know what Peter calls these?" you asked, referencing the wands. As Winston shook his head, you chuckled, saying "He calls them 'the squirty bit'." Winston chuckled too, shaking his head again. "Of course he does."

Eventually, you saw the ghost that ran past Winston yet again; a small ball of mist. "Ray, are you there?" "I'm here, Winston! What do you got?" Ray crackled in over Winston's walkie-talkie. "A Class 5. Have you got anything?" he responded. "I've got just the same over here; Class 5 taking the form of a little misty... blob." "Maybe they're siblings!" you joked, getting a soft chuckle from Winston.

However, your joking was not very appreciated, as suddenly, the misty blob rushed towards you with a wail. You tried to move, but your back was to the wall as it rushed through you, sending shivers down your spine, and making you cough a little bit. "Jesus, are you okay?!" exclaimed Winston, holding you up as you sagged a bit. "Y-yeah, I'm fine!" you responded with a nod, standing up. "Ray, these things are pretty aggressive!" said Winston into his walkie talkie. "You're telling me..." responded Ray through the walkie talkie. "Peter just got attacked. Egon barely evaded the thing!" Your eyes widened at this, concerned for Egon. "Is he okay?!" you squeaked, causing a chuckle from Winston. "'Yeah, yeah, he's fine! Peter's kinda loopy, though. Egon said he'll be fine too, just a little disoriented for the time being," Ray responded. "It'd probably be wise to be cautious trying to catch these ghosts," says Egon over his walkie talkie.

You nodded, grabbing your walkie talkie and responding "You got it! Should we attempt to trap one yet or wait?" "Try to get one of them," he said. You nodded, responding "On it," before he continued speaking. "And, Y/N?" he asked, his voice slightly softer. You let out a questioning hum of a response before he said "Be safe." You couldn't help the smile that spread across your face, and you nodded. "I will. You be safe too, alright? Don't go dying on me." You obviously couldn't see or hear the gentle blush on Egon's cheeks, but you could definitely sense it as he said "Right."

Winston's hand brushed your arm, motioning for you to follow him. You nodded, moving down the hallway, spotting the misty blobby thing that attacked you earlier. "There it is!" you exclaimed, rushing after it with Winston not far behind you. As the classical music crackled over the cheap speakers, the twisting and turning hallways led you back to the main room, where Peter was napping in one of the fancy dining chairs and Ray and Egon were attempting to catch one of the ghosts. Egon's eyes briefly met yours across the room before they returned to the ghost trap he was opening, successfully catching the little guy. You nodded and attempted to catch the other ghost's attention... by throwing a vase at it.

Dumb idea? Yes. That, you realized after it turned around, letting out a wail as loud as howling wind as it rushed towards you. You expected to just be given a chill like last time... but oh, no. This was different. The little misty blob grew in size, grabbing you like some sort of King Kong. Despite your best efforts to remain calm, you let out a scream, which drew the guys' attention to you. "Y/N!" Winston, Egon, and Ray exclaimed, while Peter somehow remained asleep. Ray attempted to zap the ghost with his proton pack's wand, but the ghost jerked away from the beam, unfortunately dropping you in the process.

Time seemed to slow as you fell from the ghost's grasp. The echoing classical music was slower than a slug, and the guys' eyes widened as Ray and Winston tried to rush over to save you, with Egon running after the two of them, knocking over Peter's chair in the process. Your eyes fluttered shut, and the last thing you thought before they closed was "Egon."

Chapter 4: Update (Not Part of Storyline!)

Chapter Text

Hi, zombies! Unfortunately, I'm putting this on hold to make way for a new series, since my Ghostbusters hyperfixation has died down a bit. Hope y'all are excited for Black Butler fanfiction! Oh, and for the record, I'm not cancelling it. Just pausing until I get into the mood to write for Ghostbusters again. That, and while my computer was broken, I started writing my own Black Butler "Book of" series, so I'm more focused on that. Love y'all!
