cringetober day 14: incorrect quote
Yuta's halfway through a page of his math homework when his phone dings. He checks it, expecting the message to be from Anzu updating him on 2wink's next job. What he doesn't expect to see is the little icon of a pink heart with his brother's name next to it.
Eyebrows raised, Yuta glances across their room to where Hinata's sprawled out on the floor. Hinata's turned away, but he's on his phone, so there's no question that he's the one who just sent the message. It must be important, then, if he went through the trouble of typing it out instead of just saying it out loud.
Yuta opens the text.
it's been...... 6 minutes and 32 seconds since i last received any attention... its tough out here... i'm already starting to run short on supplies..... i really might not make it this time....
Below that is a sticker of a cat with big watery eyes.
Yuta sighs. "Aniki."
Hinata jolts, dropping his phone. He then twists around to face Yuta with an innocent smile. "Did you get my message, Yuta-kun?"
"We're supposed to be doing homework. Not playing around."
"I'm not playing around!" Hinata insists, pouting. "I really think I'll die soon if I don't refill my Yuta-kun bar ASAP! You wouldn't let your poor Onii-chan die, right? Right, Yuta-kun?"
Yuta rolls his eyes. He really doesn't wanna have this banter right now, not when he was so focused on his homework just moments prior. He knows that if he starts his usual back-and-forth with Hinata, they'll both forget all about their homework, and then they'll have to sit through another lecture from Kunugi-sensei...
"Fine," Yuta relents. "If you finish up your homework without bothering me—and let me finish mine too—then we can go to an arcade or something. The one down by Midori-kun's place has that new DDR game you wanted to try, right?"
Hinata's eyes comically widen. "Eh? I didn't expect you to give in so easily, Yuta-kun! Don't tell me you have a soft spot for me...? Kyaaa, that's so embarrassing~"
Yuta doesn't respond, just turns back to his homework. Out of the corner of his eye, he watches as Hinata sets aside his phone and focuses on his own homework, shoulders set and expression determined.
A fond smile crosses Yuta's face, which he's quick to dampen lest Hinata get distracted again.
