Work Text:

It was a calm late afternoon at U.A., and the sky was tinged with orange and pink as the students began to retreat. Izuku and Katsuki were alone on the rooftop of the main building, where they had decided to train together — an excuse to spend more time with each other without raising suspicion.

The training had ended a few minutes ago, but neither of them seemed in a hurry to leave. They sat side by side, panting, watching the sunset in silence. Only the sound of their breaths filled the space between them.

“You did well today, Kacchan,” Izuku said, smiling slightly.

Katsuki scoffed, but the corner of his mouth threatened to lift into a smile. “Of course I did. Like you expected anything less.”

Izuku chuckled softly, leaning further against the ledge. Even after so many years of fights and rivalry, they had found a new way to be together, and it was… good. Strange, but good.

For a moment, neither of them said anything. They just stayed there, absorbing the comfortable silence. But there was a tension in the air, something both of them could feel, but neither knew how to handle.

Izuku felt his heart race for no apparent reason — or maybe he knew the reason but didn’t want to admit it. Being so close to Kacchan made his mind spin, and he couldn’t shake the thought of what it would be like… to kiss him.

“Izuku,” Katsuki called him, breaking the silence. His voice was lower than usual, almost hesitant.

Izuku turned to him, meeting those red eyes that always seemed so intense. But this time, there was something different in them — a glimmer of uncertainty, as if Katsuki was battling his own thoughts.

“Hm?” Izuku asked softly, his heart pounding faster than ever.

For a moment, everything seemed to pause. Katsuki stared at him, and Izuku could clearly see the blonde’s internal struggle — that urge to take a step forward and, at the same time, the fear of not knowing what to do next.

“I…” Katsuki looked away for a second, running a hand through his messy hair as if annoyed with himself. “This is so stupid…”

Before he could think twice, Izuku acted. He leaned forward, closing the distance between them, and pressed his lips against Katsuki’s.

It was an awkward, quick, and timid kiss, but loaded with all the emotions they had been holding back for so long. Katsuki’s lips were warm and surprisingly soft, and Izuku felt like his heart might explode right there.

For an endless second, neither of them moved. Then, slowly, Katsuki responded, as if he had finally decided to leave all doubts behind. He held the back of Izuku’s neck firmly and deepened the kiss, his insecurity giving way to the intensity that always accompanied him.

When they pulled apart, they were both breathless, their faces close and foreheads touching. Izuku felt as if the world had stopped spinning for a moment, leaving only the two of them there, at the center of everything.

“Idiot…” Katsuki muttered, but there was a gentle gleam in his eyes, different from the usual. “You’re a terrible kisser, you know.”

Izuku smiled, still tasting the sweetness of the moment on his lips. “Are you sure?”

Katsuki rolled his eyes but couldn’t hold back a small smile. “Guess I need to confirm it again.”

They laughed together, and, in that instant, under the orange sky and the gentle evening breeze, everything felt exactly as it should be.
