Chapter Text
"C-can we get t-two custard donuts a-and two chocolate donuts please?"
After handing the money to the cashier, Shai couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief as he and his classmate Mizuki waited for their order. During the weekend, Shai's classmates asked if he wanted to spend the weekends with them and although he wanted to, Shai initially wanted to say no because one because of his shyness of course, and two it meant he had to at least muster up some courage in case of any situation that might occur.
A few minutes later, the box of donuts came.
"Wow, don't they look good?" Mizuki asked, holding the box of donuts.
Shai gave a small nod "Y-yeah."
"Would you like one?" Mizuki asked while taking a donut from the box and handing it out to Shai.
"E-Eh? W-Well..." Shai looked away for a moment, a faint blush on his face which Mizuki couldn't help but chuckle a bit. Slowly, Shai takes the donut from his classmate's hand before giving her a small smile. But before he could take a bite, the two friends suddenly hear a sound that pierced through the air.
"Do you hear something?"
"AHHHH!"
When the sound became clear, it becomes apparent that it was screaming.
Looking up to the source of the screams, the two friends couldn't believe their eyes as three people were heading in their direction while on top of what appears to be a miniture makeshift rocket. "LOOK OUT!"
Luckily for them, the two friends dodged out of the way just in time before the rocket crashes into the pavement and screeching to a halt.
"Hahaha! That was awesome!" The boy in the front exulted with his hands in the air, although the other two behind him seemed more shaken from the rocket ride.
The three boys appeared to be around the same age as Shai and Mizuki. The boy in front wore a purple shirt with an uneven haircut, the second had a pink soccer shirt and the last wore a green shirt with glasses that Shai thinks seemed barely damaged from the impact of the crash. Luckily, the three of them didn't seem to have any injuries on them.
Mustering up the courage, Shai carefully approaches the three boys. "A-Are you three alright?" He asked.
The boy in the purple shirt perked up and turned to look at Shai with a smile on his face.
"We're fine." He answered with a rather energetic voice. His friends on the other hand, weren't that pleased.
"That was dangerous Saiko! We could've gotten injured!" The boy with the pink shirt, whose name was Haruno, scolded Saiko, although his friend didn't seemed to hear him at all. Instead, Saiko slowly looked down at the donut in Shai's hand. Before the nervous boy could say anything, Saiko suddenly snatched the donut out of his hand and begins eating it.
"Hey! That's not yours!" Haruno scolded while roughly pinching his friend's cheek. "Sorry about our friend here, I'll buy some more donuts for you if you like."
"N-No, that's fine, I-I wasn't that hungry."
"Here Shai, you can have another one if you like." Mizuki said while giving Shai another donut before she turns to the three boys. "By the way, why were you three on a rocket?"
Haruno nervously laughed "It's a bit of a long story. We were making a rocket when our friend Saiko decided to use all the gun powder." Before Haruno said anything else, a girl rushes towards the group, looking like she was in a hurry. She had peach blonde hair and was wearing blue clothes.
"Guys! There you are! Are you all alright?" The girl asked, out of breath from running. After helping her friends get back on their feet, she turns to Shai and Mizuki with an apologetic look.
"I'm sorry about what you two saw."
Mizuki waved her hand dismissively. "No, no, that's okay, we're just a little shaken and surprised that's all."
Izumi sighed. "Okay you three, let's head back to the park. We can think about the rocket later" The others agreed as they picked up the damaged rocket together, but before they could go back to the park, Shai intervened.
"H-Hold on." He said before turning to Saiko. "S-So your name was Saiko right?"
The kid perked up and smiled. "Yep! And these are my friends, Haruno, Daichi and Izumi." Haruno nervously laughed before putting a hand on his friend's shoulder.
"Yeah, well, it was nice meeting you two but we should head back now." He said as he drags Saiko with him and their classmates.

"That was something." Mizuki says while walking home with Shai, who nodded in response. It was already evening, with the sunset coating the two friends in an orange glow. It was then Mizuki took out her phone and noticed the time.
"Well, I gotta go home now, my mom would be worried if I was out late. See you!" Mizuki waved before walking back to her home.
"Okay." Shai waved back.
Back at his place, Shai lays down on his bed after dinner with a focused look on his face while clenching tightly on his pillow. The nervous boy couldn't help but think about the eccentric boy he met earlier. Maybe it was because of the way he greeted him with that smile on his face, or maybe it was just about the donut being snatched from his hand by that kid. But despite this, Shai did find the boy to be rather interesting, even if he made the former rather uncomfortable. He even wondered if he and Saiko had something in common.
In the back of his mind, Shai hoped to at least see Saiko again just to get to know him better and possibly even bring their friends over.
