Tangled Fates

Summary:

Major kira finds herself in a bad situation- and to make matters worse, she knows that whoever tries to rescue her is going to be in danger themselves.

I don't have an exact time frame where this is placed, probably somewhere around the 3rd season.

Chapter 1: Headache

Chapter Text

Kira woke up to a less than ordinary situation- she was in a dark, cold, concrete room, hanging upside down from the ceiling with a rope around her ankle. And her head hurt like a bitch. Kira touched the top of her head to find a lump that hadn’t been there before. “Damn it.” She whispered under her breath. As all of her blood rushed to her head, she realized that she couldn’t stay like this for long. Kira took a second to assess the situation and tried to remember how she ended up here.

She had been in ops, or maybe she had just gotten on the turbolift. It was a little fuzzy. No, that was right. She was on the turbolift. She had been in ops for a while, and decided it was time to take a lunch break. So, she went to the turbolift. As soon as the doors closed, an alarm blared, she heard a thud behind her, and before she could turn around, she felt a sharp pain on the top of her skull, and everything went dark.

Now, all she could focus on was one problem- being upside down sucks. Well, two problems. She was upside down and she could hear something in the corner of the room breathing. It’s always best to tackle problems one step at a time, she thought, and she would rather not figure out what was in the corner of the room while she was hanging helplessly upside down. Luckily, Kira was not the least paranoid person on the station, and she kept a knife tucked away in her boot at all times. She reached up to her foot, felt around in the boot where the knife should have been, and whispered “damn it,” under her breath (yet again.) Plan b it is, she thought. She reached up to her foot again, this time grabbing onto the rope. She awkwardly grasped onto the rope, and slowly climbed up it until she was in an upright position. Kira then used one hand to keep herself up, and the other to attempt to free herself from the knot.

As she was randomly grabbing at the knot, problem two made itself more important. Although she couldn't see anyone approaching, it was too dark for that, she heard footsteps getting closer to her.

“Who's there?” she shouted, faking confidence. “What do you want with me?” The footsteps stopped, and the other person responded.

“I am not going to kill you, at least not yet. It is not you I am after, and I have no intention of fatally harming you. If you cooperate with me, you will be able to go back to your little job on your little station.” The unknown man struck a match and lit a couple candles, blew out the match, and gently placed it on a table. In the pale light, she could make out the person in front of her. He was a tall human man, with a large scar on one half of his face. Kira had never seen him before.

“If you aren't after me, who is it that you are after?” Kira grilled. “And who are you? And why did you take me? What do you want?”

The man let out a chuckle at the sheer magnitude of questions. “I can't tell you that, at least not yet. You are just the bait. Any further questions you have will be answered in time.” The man turned to leave.” Oh, and when you do get the rope untied, there is food on the table. I know you never made it to lunch.”

Kira continued to fiddle with the knot around her ankle, with more success than before, given that it is easier to untie a knot that you can see. As she worked, she thought about who he could possibly be after. O'Brien? Probably not. As important as he is on deep space nine, he is just an engineer. Sisko? That would make sense. The captain must make more enemies than anyone else. Julian? Only someone truly evil would target a doctor, no matter how annoying Bashir can be.  Jadzia? She hoped not.
