Work Text:
Kagome stretched on the couch. She should really go to bed, especially considering Sesshoumaru had told her to several minutes prior, but the sight of their newborn cuddled up on his chest was too much to resist. Mizuki was only three weeks old, barely able to hold her head up, but she could already sense her father's youki, instantly calming whenever he was near.
Kagome would've been jealous if it hadn't been the same with the twins and her reiki when they'd first been born. Riku and Sora were two sides of the same coin, though they looked identical. Both sported dark hair and green eyes, their dog ears matching Sesshoumaru's true form, but while Riku had been gifted with reiki, Sora sported the poisonous stripes of his grandmother's line. She'd been worried their opposing powers would hurt each other, but they were strangely immune—just like their sister.
Mizuki was full-blooded, a feat in itself, but the crescent moon upon her tiny brow proved she would grow up to be just as powerful as her parents—if not more so. Kagome shook her head. She didn't need to worry about that right now. She'd rather concentrate on the way her silver curls brushed against Sesshoumaru's chin. She'd been surprised that she'd been born with so much hair, considering the boys' had been bald until they were two, but she couldn't wait to start styling it.
"You require rest," Sesshoumaru reminded her.
She sighed, turning on her side before pushing herself up. "I'm just enjoying the view." He chuckled softly, brushing a kiss atop his daughter's head. Mizuki stirred, eyes still closed as her head shot up. Kagome's heart clenched as her head bobbed, pressing her mouth against Sesshoumaru's cheek before settling back down.
Amber eyes widened in shock, his hand laying across Mizuki's back. "Did she just—"
Kagome edged closer, doing the same to his other cheek. "Told you she loves you best."
He scowled at her. "She is too young to know such things. Or pick sides."
"She never cries with you." A finger touched his mouth to keep him from arguing. "It's not a bad thing. I love watching you with her." She kissed his temple. "Just don't forget I love you most."
"I could never, mate."
"I fought Jaken-sama bought the groceries," Sora said, holding onto the side of the cart, thumb in his mouth.
"He procures the weekly list. We are here to get extra things for your mother," Sesshoumaru replied, taking care not to jostle Mizuki, who was currently strapped to his chest. She cooed softly, tiny fingers wrapped around a lock of his hair.
"Is Mama not feeling well?" Riku asked, face pinched with worry.
"Giving birth is a trying endeavour," he said, leading them down the aisle filled with sweets. "We have to make her recovery as smooth as possible."
"Can I choose somefing?" Sora asked, looking around in wonder.
"Hnn." He would sift through their choices after the fact, but his son's gaze was intent as he approached the cookies. He tapped a few boxes before Riku pointed to one on a shelf too high for either of them to reach.
Sesshoumaru recognized the bright yellow box, patting both sons on the head. "Excellent choice," he said, adding it to the cart. The twins preened, then continued down the aisle, selecting two different flavours of KitKat before rounding the corner. They glanced down the next aisle but shook their heads and went to the next one.
Sesshoumaru watched as they found three savoury snacks—two bags of chips and a box of dried seaweed—presenting each to their father before his slight nod permitted them to add them to the cart. As they rounded another corner, Sora pointed to some packaged mochi, but Riku shook his head. "She only likes it when Jaken-sama makes it." They paused in their tracks, slowly turning around to face Sesshoumaru, who raised a brow in question.
"Papa, can we ask Jaken-sama to make mochi for Mama? The black sesame ones?" they asked in unison. Sesshoumaru clicked his tongue. He never understood how they were so in tune with each other.
"I will make sure he has all the ingredients before we leave the store," he replied, already pulling out his phone. The boys hugged his legs, then led him to another section, his expression softening as they made their selection.
They noticed so much, even at such a young age.
"Mama! Mama! Look what we bought you!"
Kagome was curled up on the balcony of their home, enjoying the crisp afternoon air. She was still wrapped in a blanket, having just woken from her nap, and she opened her arms to her boys, snuggling them close.
"Did you have fun with Papa?" They nuzzled her chin, then pulled out a small bouquet each, her expression softening at their brightly coloured blooms. "They're lovely."
"We got you tweats too!"
"But you have to wait until later for mochi."
Riku smacked his brother's arm. "You weren't supposed to tell her about that yet!"
Sora panicked and then covered her ears. "Pwetend you didn't hear!"
Kagome rubbed their noses together. "All I heard was that there would be treats." The boys beamed, then rushed from the room, quickly returning, heavy laden with bags. She met Sesshoumaru's gaze as he walked in behind them, flashing him a bright smile. "I see you went shopping."
"I have done nothing. They are the ones that picked everything out," he replied, kissing the top of her head. "They know your tastes quite well."
"So I noticed." The boys presented her with each treat until she was covered in snacks, leaving them all giggling. "I can't eat all of these today!" she wailed playfully.
"Don't worry, Mama," Riku said. "We'll help you."
She ruffled their hair. "I'm sure you will." Leaning back in her chair, she eyed Sesshoumaru, then pulled them close, whispering loudly in their ears. "Maybe we can convince Papa to let us have a picnic in the living room."
The twins immediately scrambled to their feet, pulling at his pants as he handed Mizuki to her mother. "We cannot have a picnic inside without a blanket," he said seriously, chuckling as they scampered off to find the biggest one possible.
"You're wonderful," she crooned, pulling him down into a lingering kiss.
"As are you." Mizuki squirmed between them, babbling happily but already searching for food. "Did you get enough rest?" he asked.
Kagome nodded. "I even managed to shower. I finally feel human."
He clicked his tongue. "And here I thought we would end the day with that."
"We?" she asked, already intrigued.
He smirked. "The picnic is likely to tire them out. As long as this little one behaves—" He stroked his daughter's head, helping her latch onto Kagome's breast. "—then I will treat you as well."
Kagome hissed at the initial contact, then relaxed in her chair, thumb stroking Mizuki's back. "Sounds perfect."
