Work Text:

The theater buzzed with excitement, the smell of buttery popcorn wafting through the air. Shadow sat in the back row, arms crossed, trying to appear indifferent as Amy fidgeted beside him. Her eyes sparkled with anticipation, the dim lighting highlighting her bright pink hair.

“Are you ready for this?” Amy asked, a grin spreading across her face. “I can’t wait!”

Shadow sighed, attempting to maintain his usual stoic demeanor. “It’s just a movie.”

“Just a movie? It’s the event of the season!” Amy replied, her enthusiasm infectious. “You’re going to love it!”

As they waited for the film to start, Sonic and Tangle arrived, plopping down in the seats in front of them. “Hey, lovebirds!” Sonic teased, winking over his shoulder. “You ready for a wild ride?”

Tangle leaned back, a mischievous smile on her face. “I hope Shadow can handle it. He looks like he’s about to fall asleep!”

Shadow shot her a glare, but Amy laughed, nudging him playfully. “Don’t worry, he’ll warm up to it.”

The lights dimmed, and the previews began to roll. Amy leaned closer to Shadow, her excitement bubbling over. “Look! This is the one I was telling you about!”

Shadow couldn’t help but glance at her, the corner of his mouth twitching upward. “You’re really into this, aren’t you?”

“Of course! I love the thrill of the stories, the characters… everything!” she exclaimed, her voice a soft whisper.

Sonic turned around again, making exaggerated motions. “Okay, but if anyone screams during the scary parts, I’m sitting between you two!”

“Like you’re any better, Sonic!” Tangle shot back, laughing. “Remember last time?”

“Hey, that was one time!” Sonic protested, his cheeks slightly flushed.

As the movie started, Amy grabbed a handful of popcorn and offered it to Shadow. “Want some?”

He hesitated, then took a few kernels, trying to look unimpressed. “You know I could just get my own.”

“True, but it’s more fun this way!” Amy chirped, her eyes glued to the screen.

The film unfolded, and as the plot thickened, Amy couldn’t contain her reactions. She gasped at every twist, her hands flying to her mouth. Shadow rolled his eyes but found himself amused despite himself.

“Look at her! She’s like a roller coaster!” Sonic whispered to Tangle, who giggled softly.

Tangle leaned in closer. “You know, I think Shadow’s actually enjoying this. Look at his face!”

“Maybe he just can’t figure out how to express it,” Sonic quipped, smirking.

Midway through the movie, a particularly shocking scene made Amy jump, spilling some popcorn. “Oops!” she exclaimed, laughing. “Sorry, Shadow!”

“Why are you apologizing to me?” he replied, trying to sound annoyed but failing. “You should be more worried about the popcorn!”

“I’ll share more with you!” Amy promised, handing him another handful, her eyes twinkling.

Sonic leaned back, watching the two interact. “You guys are adorable. It’s like a rom-com in here.”

Tangle nodded, chuckling softly. “I love it! And it’s so nice to see Shadow lighten up.”

As the movie continued, Amy couldn’t help but talk to Shadow during quieter moments. “What do you think will happen next?” she whispered, her curiosity palpable.

“I don’t know,” he replied, keeping his voice low. “But it’s predictable.”

“Maybe! But that’s part of the fun!” she said, her excitement infectious.

Shadow allowed a small smirk to break through. “You really enjoy this, don’t you?”

“Absolutely!” she beamed, her face lighting up.

The film reached its climax, and the theater was filled with gasps and laughter. Amy leaned forward, utterly captivated. Shadow, despite himself, found his focus shifting from the screen to her expressions—her joy was impossible to ignore.

As the credits began to roll, Sonic turned around again. “So, what did you all think?”

Amy clapped her hands together, practically bouncing in her seat. “That was amazing! Can we watch another?”

Shadow raised an eyebrow, feigning disinterest. “I suppose it wasn’t completely terrible.”

“See? You’re hooked!” Amy teased, her eyes sparkling.

Tangle nudged Sonic playfully. “How about we get snacks and do a double feature?”

“Sounds like a plan!” Sonic said, already getting up. “You in, Shadow?”

“Why not? As long as it keeps her happy,” he replied, glancing at Amy, who was already standing with excitement.

With laughter echoing in the theater, the four friends made their way out, ready for round two—this time with even more popcorn and just a bit more adventure.
