Chapter Text
Three of the five members of the Sons of Calydon were enjoying the start of their day off after a healthy breakfast.
Burnice was giving maintenance to her fire thrower; Piper was reading an old muscle car magazine and Caesar was reading one of her romance mangas.
She turned the page, and her eyes gravitated to a new character in the story, a girl on the shorter side, and it showed a day in her life while she attended school. She was walking through the hallways bustling with students who were rushing to their respective classes.
She held a stern expression while she was shouting at her male classmate who had accidentally bumped into her, making her drop her books.
After apologizing, he hurriedly kneeled down to help her pick up her books when he noticed a small gift box that had fallen out from her backpack.
When he held the box in front of her and asked if it was hers, she snatched the box from his hands. “IT’S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!!” the girl yelled and ran inside the classroom with a small blush on her face.
It was a harsh worded girl who had problems expressing her feelings. She saw how the girl blushed and berated the main protagonist, sometimes relying on violence but truly caring for him at the end.
The way the girl talked made the leader of the Sons of Calydon feel a strange familiarity with her.
“Hey guys, come check this out.”
Piper perked up from her magazine and Burnice lowered her tools. They approached their leader with curious faces while Caesar closed the distance and wrapped both girls with a single arm, showing the black and white book to them.
“Take a look at this!” Showing them a page from her book with an amused face.
With her usual eagerness, Burnice scanned the book like a hawk “What are we looking at?”
Caesar pointed to the girl in the middle of the page yelling at someone. “This character! She totally looks like Lucy, right? Hahaha!”
Piper, who was barely able to reach the book, stood on her toes and pulled the arm holding the book down to her level. “What are you talking about?”
“Umm, well… you see. In these kinds of books, the characters sometimes have names that represent how they act. This girl is something called a Tsundere, and she totally fits Lucy to a T. “
Finally understanding, Burnice’s interest flared out and snatched the book from Caesar’s hands. “Ohh! I think I heard about it, but what makes you say she’s a Tsundere?”
Caesar thought for a little while deciding how she would explain herself. “Basically, a Tsundere is a person that has a harsh personality on the outside but actually cares for others on the inside. They could be violent, or maybe they could not be honest with their feelings. They tend to be cute, get embarrassed easily and react with violence.”
“Yep, that sounds like our little Lucy alright.” Piper put her fingers on her chin and nodded in agreement.
Not totally convinced yet, Burnice made her doubts known. “I think she can be a little intense, but I’m not really sure…”
“Hmmm, let me see…” While trying to come up with a better explanation the leader of the sons of Calydon remembered a previous interaction with her companion.
“Ohh, I know! Listen, one time Lucy and I went to New Eridu to renew our driving licenses, and when we finished, she asked me to accompany her to buy some clothes. She wanted to buy a new pair of casual shoes, and when she finally found what she was looking for, she asked me how they looked on her."
Caesar looked to the side and scratched her head bashfully. "Y-You know me, I don’t really know about that kind of stuff, so I just said that they looked good, but then, she got angry at me and told me that what I said was just “lip service”, she yelled at me and called me shallow minded."
A growing frustration was starting to appear on Caesar's face. "Then! Then! Another time I tried to say something different, she got a new jacket, and when I told her that I didn’t like it. She told me, that "my tastes sucked!”
“No matter what you say to her, she will always get angry!”
Almost forgetting why she was telling the story, Caesar was fuming and was just about to go pick a fight with Lucy in order to vent some steam, but she was interrupted by Piper.
Suddenly remembering something thanks to Caesar’s story, Piper added to the conversation “I think I get it, little Ol’ me has a story too…”
“A couple days ago, Lucy and I were eating at Cheesetopia, and just when we were about to pay our tab a couple of young'uns approached our table.
At first, I thought they were from another biker gang, either looking for trouble or to ask for help since we are in charge now that Caesar won The Tour de Inferno.
It turned out that one of them had the hots for young Lucy and decided to try his luck buttering her up with sweet words. Calling her beautiful and praising her skill. After telling him to buzz off, the young man started bragging about his car and inviting Lucy for a ride just the two of them. She got so angry that she took out her whip and smacked the guy until he left crying. It was quite a sight, let me tell you that!"
Piper slumped cross legged on the sofa and slapped her knee. "That guy might have sucked but I remember that she didn't take a compliment out of nowhere like that, maybe she's not good at receiving compliments."
Caesar had a flash of sudden realization. “Now that you say that every time, I tell her she did a good job or something like that she always answers with something like - Hmp! This kind of thing was nothing for someone as amazing as one!"
Burnice started jumping in place raising her hand “Ohh! Ohh! I think I have one!”
“One time, I got her a new pair of pilot goggles to celebrate the anniversary of her joining the sons of Calydon. She was clearly happy about it, but when I commented on her smile she started to stutter and yelled at me. Even so, she wore them for quite some time, and I noticed she was sad when she lost them inside a hollow.”
Caesar pointed excitedly at Burnice with a bright smile “¡Yeah! That’s totally tsundere behavior! She gets angry easily, doesn’t accept when she’s happy for something, doesn’t do well with compliments and she tends to be violent!”
Burnice nodded in agreement. “Now in perspective, I can totally see it.”
“Where is she by the way?”
The sound of a door opening took everybody’s attention, and they turned their heads expecting an angry Lucy ready to chomp their heads off, but instead they were met by Lighter going inside the room.
“Hi guys, how is it going?”
Piper lay down on the sofa making herself comfortable now that the spur of excitement from her companions had settled down “We were wondering where Lucy is, do you know? “
Lighter walked towards the sofa and let himself sink beside Piper, letting out a deep sigh.
“Lucy? She was in a call with the Proxy. She left to meet with him like 5 minutes ago.”
Burnice’s smile grew wider, and boldly proclaimed. “Guys! I just got an idea! What if we follow them to see how Lucy reacts! If she’s hanging out with Wise, she’s sure to react in some way, right?”
Caesar’s eyes opened wide. “Sounds fun! Umm but if we all go together, we’ll draw too much attention…We should go one at a time.”
Piper let out a heavy yawn. *yaaawn* “I kinda want to sleep in today, Caesar, you go first.”
Caesar, a little uncertain about what would Lucy do to her if she were to find out, showed doubts on her face, but before she could say something to object, Burnice pushed her out of the door.
“Hurry up, if you don’t use the breaks, you’ll catch up to her in no time! Make sure to tell us all about it when you get back!! “
