Day 12 Dressing up

Wee John and Frenchie dress up, that’s the fic

Work Text:

Wee John hauls the trunk onto the deck, the crew crowding around him eager to see what treasures they’ve managed to raid. He opens the trunk to reveal an array of colourful clothing made of various fabrics. Some of the crew wander off, seemingly losing interest when they realise there’s nothing of value.

But Wee John sees the potential, endless possibilities of costumes to dress up in, he’s already thinking of the makeup looks he can pair them with. He carries the chest below deck to the small room he’s claimed for his costumes and makeup. Inside he finds Frenchie playing his lute who also likes to use this room for a quiet place to practice.

“Whatcha got there?” Frenchie asks, putting down his lute.

“Bunch of outfits we raided, wanna look?”

Frenchie nods, he’s always up for a bit of dressing up. The two of them rifle through the chest, Frenchie comes across a loose tunic style top and a long flowy black skirt. Wee John helps him style them, finishing the look with a little scarf, he looks beautiful. Frenchie sways from side to side, admiring the way the skirt moves in the mirror.

“Can you do my makeup?” Frenchie asks.

“Sure.”

They sit by the mirror as Wee John gives Frenchie a smokey eye look.

“Stop moving.” Wee john chides.

“I can’t help it, it tickles.” Frenchie replies with a giggle.

“You’re so annoying.” Wee John says with a laugh.

Frenchie leans forward to examine his makeup in the mirror. “Hm pretty good, thanks.”

Wee John sighs. “Pretty good? I guess I’ll take it.”

Wee John puts his own outfit together, a deep blue full length gown he’d found at the bottom of the chest. He admires it in the mirror, the feeling of the fabric brushing against his skin, the way the sequins catch in the sunlight streaming through the small window.

“Looking great babe.” Frenchie compliments.

“Thank you darling.” Wee John replies, giving a twirl as Frenchie claps him.

“Can I do your makeup?” Frenchie asks.

“Have you ever done makeup before?”

“No but as an artist I’m sure I’ll pick it up quickly.” Frenchie replies with far too much confidence.

“You’re a musician.”

“Which is a form of art.”

“You haven’t changed.” Wee John chuckles, shaking his head.

“Is that a yes?”

“Fine, you can do my makeup.” Wee John relents.

Wee John sits by the vanity as Frenchie rifles through the makeup selection, carefully choosing which eyeshadow colour he thinks would be best. He settles on a shade of blue that matches his dress. Wee John had left out some brushes to use but the man starts using his finger, dragging it across his eyelid.

“Careful, you’re gonna poke my eye out.”

“I like to feel what I’m doing.”

“You’re ridiculous.” Wee John laughs.

After Frenchie decides that he’s done, Wee John admires his handiwork in the vanity mirror, it’s not the best he’s seen by far but it’s also not the worst.

“You’re welcome.” Frenchie says with sincerity.

“Thank you darling.”

Frenchie takes Wee John’s hand, pulling him towards the door. “Come on, let’s go show the others our new looks.”

Wee John follows obligingly, smiling to himself, happy to be by Frenchie’s side.
